I love Spirit Week!

So, most of you know I'm a high school teacher. One of the best things about this job is Spirit week and Senior Week. This week is senior week, where the seniors and the teachers can dress up with designated themes each day. This week's days are:
Monday: Kindergarten day. (I wore jeans with a minion shirt and pig tails. The kids loved this and thought it was hilarious!!!)
Tuesday: pajama day - I mean, who DOESN'T want to wear their pajamas all day?
Wednesday: Senior Citizen day - I borrowed a MuMu from my FMIL and wearing slippers. Ah yes, this is very comfortable, lol.
Thursday: twin day - I don't have a twin so I won't be participating. :(
Friday: Team day - wear a t-shirt, jersey, pants, whatever you've got supporting your favorite college or NFL team. I shall be decked out in PURPLE and GOLD for my LSU Tigers!!!!

  • I miss those weeks in school! I used to borrow my dad's old Army jacket for Camo Day and paint my face with some of his old paint.

You don't need a twin to celebrate twin day! Just find a fellow teacher and coordinate your outfits to match! :)

Oh I know... I haven't found a twin yet. Let me go spend my planning period coordinating with my other cheer sponsor!!!!
  • I missed Spirit Week at our HS. We didn't go too crazy with it since our football team sucked at the time. I remember on Monday we would wear our rival's colors (Yellow and Blue) and Friday our school colors or our sport uniforms (ie: field hockey skirts or football jerseys). I don't remember what we did for the rest of the week.

  • Omg, every year in Middle School and High School, the first day of Spirit Week was always Pajama Day. I would wear my best pajamas and make my dad drive me to school, but then I was always paranoid that I had gotten the day wrong and would refuse to leave the car until I saw at least 3 other people in their pajamas. This is seriously how it went like 5-6 years in a row.

  • @Hummingbird125 I know exactly how you feel! There were some Spirit Days I would bring a change of clothes with me "just in case". I'd also wait in the car and watch to see if anyone else had dressed up or not. I think something I regret is worrying too much what other people thought of how I looked when I was younger.

  • I so wish I had pictures somewhere, of how I used to dress in high school. Every day was a spirit day in my book. I was a super freak, y'all. You'd be both shocked and amazed.

  • I'm really getting into this Senior Citizen day thing. I'm calling all the kids "whipper snappers!" LOL

When I was in high school, I was a cheerleader so our coach told us we had to dress up or we would run after school lol but I enjoyed dressing up anyways! FI is a middle school teacher so during spirit week I like to help him pick out what to wear each day.

I used to go all out for "tacky day" and wear crazy fake eye lashes and spray paint my hair neon green and wear my clothes inside out. I loved it.

We also did Hawaiian day and I wore a coconut bar over a tank top and I got sent to the principal's office for dress code violation lol.
  • @southernpeach89 I love tacky day. That one didn't get picked this year! BTW, I am the cheer sponsor and my cheerleaders are required to participate as well.
  • I was never big on spirit week because most of our spirit week participants were going for "sexy" pajama day or "sexy" tacky day or "sexy" senior citizen day...and I was super scared of dress code violations, haha. <--Nerd, party of 1 :)

But really, math teachers are sexy :) I just don't show it to my students, as then I may get in trouble in the hallways by an officer thinking I'm a student.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @blue&white

Our kids aren't allowed to dress sexy in any sort of way. We are definitely very strict about dress code.

I've been mistaken for a student a couple of times in my career, lol.
  • @katieg520 I'm probably making it worse by working at a college, but I CONSTANTLY get yelled at for logging onto the common area faculty computers at work. I feel like I have to just like wear my ID on my shirt or something. It's ridiculous :)

  • HA HA HA, probably so!!! When I first started teaching high school, I taught at a high school in GA where the students don't wear uniforms. I was fussed at for being in the teachers' lounge more than once.
Here, the students wear uniforms, so it is quite easy to tell us apart. Not to mention, I am ten years older than I was then, lol.
