Wedding Invitations & Paper

Invitation wording assistance!

So beause I have to make a set of invites for international guests due to visa concerns I figured I would get it right the first time. I made a thread in the etiquette board.

my parents are hosting, but they are no longer together and my father has remarried. It's still a bit awkward but since they are hosting i feel it would be right for me to put both my mother and my father and his new wife.

i know my mom may make a comment so that's pretty much what i am most worried about. She'll probably say some little snooty comment that technically it's just my father paying... but what ever.

so back to the wording. ..

Ms. Mom Maiden Last name and Mrs. And Mr Dad Last name

Request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter

Bride
to
Groom

Sunday, the tenth of August
two thousand and fourteen
at half-past six o'clock
Venue name
Miami, Florida

Thank you for your help!

Re: Invitation wording assistance!

  • Should I take out daughter because technically my step mother is not my mother? I'm not sure how this works.

    Ms. Jane Bridesmother
    Mr. John Bridesfather
request the pleasure of your company
at the marriage of their daughter

    Bride's First Middle
    to
    Mr. Groom's Full Name

    Sunday, the tenth of August
    two thousand and fourteen
    at half after six o'clock
    Venue name
    Address
    Miami, Florida

Unless your wedding ceremony is taking place inside a church or other house of worship, you should not use "request the honor of your presence".  This phrase is reserved for those weddings.
It is not necessary to name your stepmother on the invitation, however if this causes bad feelings, it is perfectly proper to do so.  It would look like this:

    Ms. Jane Bridesmother
    Mr. and Mrs. John Bridesfather
request the pleasure of your company
at the marriage of their daughter
    Bride's First Middle (etc.)

    Thank you so much!

I will speak to my dad about that as I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings at all.

I have another question. I do not have a middle name. So I just put my first name?
  • Yes.  Your first name alone is fine!
