That Moment When...

a coworker is clearly drunk in the office. Yikes. Every time she speaks to a client on the phone I cringe. It's a bit entertaining and at the same time sad and inappropriate. She is slurring her words all over the place. Anyone else have anything fun going on today?

Re: That Moment When...

  • Are you sure she is drunk? Just asking because my coworker had similar side effects from medication. But it is the day after the super bowl so I guess its possible!

  • Yikes.

My assistant just turned in her resignation today. I have mixed feelings about it.
  •  Yikes! Or a stroke? Personally, I'd say something to this said co-worker.

@Fran1985 - We aren't completely sure but it seems that way at this point. We are all keeping an eye out. Her supervisor will find out for sure.

@JMalettas - She is more of an 'underling' and I am not her manager. I spoke to her supervisor about it already so I am letting them handle it. They will seek my guidance if need be.
  • Yikes! You would think she would have slept it off lol. Nothing exciting, here. A lot of people are out probably because we got more snow here. So it's pretty slow and quiet so far.

  • I'm sitting at home working on the assignment I forgot existed until last night.  The snow is REALLY coming down here, and my tutoring student canceled her session today because her college is shut down due to the snow.  I'm rooting for my class to get canceled: I would have to leave around 3:00 and I have a feeling the snow will be awful by then.

  • PD at work, so at least it's a change of pace.  I have no full work weeks this month.  Yay!!  Another PD next Monday, holiday Monday after this and Teachers Convention at the end of the month.  Then it's only 3 weeks will Spring Break!!  Countdown is on to spring!!  :)

@WinstonsGirl is your PD actually helpful?  I always hated PD days, I felt like I could get so much more done if they would just a) leave me alone in an empty classroom to plan stuff, or b) have a regular school day and let me teach the kiddos.

This was in a very failing urban school district though, so every three months we had a different set of "consultants" trying to teach us a new program.

  • This one should be, and next week will, cos I got to choose my sessions, but normally, no.  We just did one on how to deal with English Language Learners.  Not only was the info not helpful (greet them by name when they enter your class), but I teach French and PE.  I can demo stuff in PE, so they always understand, and I don't allow English in my French classes, so none understand anyway, not just the ELL kids.

I like them though, cos it's a change of pace, so even though I'm 'working' having something different to do give my brain a change.

  • Hahaha I'm giggling over here thinking about somebody trying to help you deal with ELL in your French classes, and saying to greet them by name!  Sounds like our PD.  I feel you on the change of pace though, it's nice to do something different.

  • @JCBride2014 I don't understand why they put them in French in the first place.  Pull them out and do ESL with them!!  Although I'm sure it's all related to money.  Heaven forbid our admin should have to teach 5 kids every once in a while

  • Nothing interesting here, I mainly work weekends so my time off is when everyone else has work and classes :P  Although over the weekend there was a really funny moment where my boss mentioned she is trying to cut wheat from her diet, and one of the kids just responds with "Ew!"  Best response to a diet ever XD

  • This 'drunk' girl started dancing and singing in the office. Way out of character for her. I guess we are all just monitoring her for the rest of the day. She is giggling at everything...I'm thinking she might be high instead of drunk now...

I would highly recommend that you call her a medic. It sounds like she could be suffering from a diabetic emergency. She could just be high or drunk, but I'd much rather be on the safe side.

She is not having a diabetic emergency and I really don't see how that would be diagnosable from the few things I've stated on an internet forum. She was talking about partying last night for the super bowl...she's still functional. Just a little silly.

The singing and dancing were done from her seat. She is still working just seemingly lax and goofier than her normal.
  • Ha, could you imagine being so drunk at work it's actually an option to have a medic called?  Talk about embarrassing.

Are her supervisors going to talk to her about this?

Firebabe just mentioned it *could* be a diabetic emergency. I know several people who have acted like you have described from being in diabetic shock. It may be unlikely, but it could happen.

Yup they are...thank goodness she isn't one of my employees.

@jells2dot0 - I understand she said *could* be. It is not however. Thanks for the info.
  • So, I'm in a total funk right now. I feel like there is no light at the end of my temporary duty tunnel. I am desperate for a vacation, but it's next to impossible to plan given that they are shutting down our office and relocating us. That is all fine, except actually telling us where we're going and when would be nice. Meanwhile, i'm working 6 days a week at a job noone wants to do because the hours suck and there is no incentive to do it. I volunteered for it as a nice addition to my resume, but my patience is wearing thin.
