XXP: Avoid weird tan lines?

I know there is plenty of time but it is never too early to get ideas.

Anyway, our wedding is in July and I am wondering how I can avoid weird / awkward tan lines?

I am a jeans and t-shirt type of girl so I don't want my arms to be tan but not my back or shoulders because that might look weird with a strapless wedding dress.

Also, I will NOT go to a tanning salon and use a tanning bed (I have my reasoning for it).

Any ideas?

  • Would you do some tanning just out in the sun? That or a lot of sunscreen are all I can think of.

I don't go out just to tan but I do end up getting a bit of a tan after a while just being out and about
  • If you spend a lot of time outside, then a high SPF sunbock will be key. Otherwise, you may want to do what others suggest and spend some time in the sun in another strapless top. I understand wanting to avoid tanning beds, but self tanners can help even out color as well.

I'm getting married in Mexico and I'll be there a week before the wedding. I bought a bunch of light long-sleeved tops and large brimmed hats. Hopefully, this will help block the sun and get me to the wedding day tanline and burn free.

  • Lots and lots of sunblock. High SPF. Reapply often. I've never been so diligent about sun protection as I was last summer in anticipation of my late-August wedding. Also, try wearing different types of tops (short sleeve, sleeveless, spaghetti strap, etc.) so you don't get too much of a defined pattern.
  • I tried to avoid the sun for my fall wedding but still ended up with the infamous farmers tan (thanks to sunny days & being in the car driving to & from work & running errands. I ended up doing  a spray tan (I tried spray tan out 2 months before wedding to see how it would turn out). Another option is there are some great over the counter self tanners available.
  • I would try a sunless tan a few months before the wedding to see what color you want. Do NOT use self tanner at home because they make you an orange tint and in regular clothes it may look fine, but against white you will look orange. I have had a few "spray tans" and my best reccommendation on those it to do it about 3 days before your wedding. It will fade enough by the wedding to look very natural.

  • I'll put in a good word for 'Jergens Natural Glow' - I used this product to help even out my legs/arms before my brother's wedding.

  • I was also a fan of Jergens Natural Glow lotion, to help even out skin tone.  I am not a tanning bed fan as well, but I did do a spray tan a few days before the wedding (I test a "test run about a month before as well to be sure it would look OK).  Besides sunscreen, you will need to try to avoid over exposing if you can, and if you get lines, a lotion of some sort should fix it.
