  You'll have to be a little more specific on what you're looking for.

  
  

  The length is probably "tea length", so if you Google "tea length dresses" you'll probably find lots. Also, you can get many longer dresses hemmed to tea length as well.

  
  

  Are there certain colors, shapes, fabrics, details, or designers that you are drawn to?

  Well I guess to be more specific I'm talking about basically cocktail length. Were having just the reception and it's more of a party atmosphere. I like lace, tulle, sequins. I kinda like a little of everything. I like plain and I like embellished. I guess I need to just start running around and looking.

  You don't have to feel like you have to get something at a "bridal" shop either. I had previously been looking for a dress to wear for my wedding at Jcrew and Nordstrom's as well! They have some wonderful cocktail dresses that I think would make awesome wedding dresses.

  Try this designer, they have a ton of knee length to tea length dresses: http://dollycouture.com. Aside from them, most popular wedding dress designers will carry maybe a couple of styles in shorter lengths. I second PPs, try some on to see how you feel in them!   I kept an eye on polyvore.com when I was looking since it pulls from all sorts of websites. It pulls from bluefly and all the big designer department stores (saks, neiman, nordstrom, ect). Shopbop.com is another awesome one. If you do find a dress you like, do a google search for it to make sure you're getting the best price. Sometimes you can find it cheaper on zappos once you do find something you like on one of the bigger department store sites.

  I didn't really love the bridal cocktail dresses from the bridal salons, but I actually found my dress while looking at bridesmaid dresses. Monique Lhuillier has a white cocktail style bridesmaid dress that was less than all the other dresses I saw being sold as bridal dresses. I still look at polyvore in case I see something I love even more.

  My BFF found a beautiful reception dress at a BCBG outlet and she got hers on sale for something like $60 and the dress was normally priced at over $200! It was a hi-low style in a chiffon flowy type of material with lace accents around the natural waist line. Just another place to try looking at if you have one locally.
