Honestly- do you use this site for anything else?

I've never looked at anything on here except the forum boards. I've gotten all my vendors from personal recommendations- I would never just hire someone who paid to advertise on here. What else have you/ do you use on this website?

Well I'm not getting a DJ, hiring a special venue (we're getting married at a favorite restaurant); but I looked at a lot of the pictures for inspiration (wedding bands, dresses, bouquets, hair styles).

I'm sure that I could have found this stuff on other sites, but it's convenient that it's all right here for me.
  • Not really. I did rifle through it for vendors but found TK has some strange ideas as to what fits into $ vs $$ vs $$$ so it wasn't all that helpful. As far as finding vendors goes it's much more helpful to go meet them at a bridal show or something like that, and a dress may be unavailable depending on what stores actually carry so I didn't find it all that helpful for attire either. And the articles are trash sooo...

I guess I've looked at bouquets a little bit?

  • Definitely not at this point. I tried to use the DW info to help pick a destination, but it was an epic fail. The DW section did not provide me with any additional info that I didn't already know. I also tried to use the checklist because I was planning from abroad, but it was also fairly useless.

  • I use the checklist and found some of my vendors through here.

  • I tried to at first but honestly I found it easier to find everything on my own.
  • I am using the guestlist tracker feature and the seating chart feature is pretty cool.  I did also find my officiant on the vendor lists here, but she was also listed on other sites so I may have found her anyway.  I looked at venues on here too, but didn't end up choosing any of them.
  • I used the check list manager, and I created a website through TK. Otherwise, we found all our vendors on our own.

We also used all vendors we personally knew -- the florist did my parents' wedding 30-odd years ago; my grandparents' funerals; my brother and SIL's wedding; and every floral arrangement my father has ever bought my mother to apologise for whatever he did wrong (most memorably brining home two 12-week-old puppies without asking her).

The DJ was a personal friend of mine who gave us a huge discount ($500); the photographer is a co-worker of DH's who also gave us a huge discount ($500).

I can't even recommend them on here, because as awesome as they are, they'd never give those prices to anyone else.

Given TK's general shittiness in other areas (notably giving advice), I wouldn't trust their vendors.

  • I looked at a lot of pictures early on for inspiration and I used it for my checklist and my website. Vendors were all family friends, acquaintances or rec'd by our vendors. The budget tool is ...Weird...and I made a better spreadsheet. I did pull some articles for writing your own vows and for addressing invites. But other than that...no.

  • I like the checklist and the guest list managers! I use those all the time, and I did set up a website for us as well.
So to me it's useful. I haven't really looked at the blogs or anything like that though.
  • We didn't get any of our vendors through here. I made my website through here and am using the checklist. I have the names/addresses of my guests as well, but only as a backup to the 4 other places I keep the info (laptop, 2 flash drives, and index cards).

  • Nope....I'm only here for the boards now. When I first got engaged, I looked at colors and flowers, but we found all of our vendors during vacations. We decided to get married in the city where we got engaged so we just have to keep making weekend trips..(darn lol)
I honestly haven't looked at a thing in a few weeks and find the advice way more helpful than the site itself. This is now my favorite place to unwind and laugh at Tay-Cray brides.

  • I didn't look at anything as I recall. I look at links when other knotties post them, but I usually disagree with them. Like that one link of all these white clothes the bride is supposed to wear to work for the week after getting engaged. I wore head-to-toe denim.
  • I found almost all of my vendors here, but from recommendations on the Hawaii board, not through the paid Knot vendors.  I also used the checklist to see if I was missing things.  I tried to look for dresses, but it was a PITA to navigate, so I gave up

  • I've browsed through vendors, saved almost 200 photos for inspiration (don't judge me!), and am utilizing the checklist.

  • Finding vendors on TK isn't an option for me, considering I live in SA. Though for some reason TK has me registered in Alabama...

When I was doing SMM, one of the pages/brands I managed was a wedding thing. I did trawl TK's blog, along with a lot of others for content inspiration. Since I stopped working in SMM, I don't go to the rest of the site as much.

I don't really use the checklist, since most of it is irrelevant to our situation, but I do skim it once in a while to make sure I haven't forgotten anything off my own personal checklist. The budgeter is in USD, so that doesn't help me much either. Mostly I just use the guest list manager, and the seating chart thing. And it's nice that I don't have to keep track of how far out we are because of the countdown and tickers.

  • I actually stumbled across TK by looking for venues. I found a few prospective venues but they were too expensive. Sometimes I look at the emails I get too, like 20 hottest color palettes, or 100 new hairstyles. Other than that I stick to the forum.

  • When I was still just engaged, I used the checklist (after deleted about half the things). I also used the budgeter in the very beginning to get an idea of how to allocate my money (though I shifted a lot). I did look through the vendor list, but didn't find anything I liked. And I looked at the inspiration photos for hair ideas and bouquets. I actually didn't become active on the forum till after my wedding!
  • The budgeter is weird for sure. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but it doesn't seem to want to take my actual numbers into account.

  • I have a website through TK but that's it. Between the notoriously bad advice and lots of pictures of things I can't afford, I've stuck to the boards.

  • @GlitterWitch22 yes I've been meaning to point that out! I think it might've even been the same when I first joined TK when I was first engaged about 4 years ago! But definitely since I've been around this time around since August.

My favorite part about that article is that you are  "supposed" to spend, like, 3 grand on a white lace skirt to wear to work. So people know you are engaged. Um, I spent less than 500 bucks on my wedding dress. WHY do I need a super expensive white lace skirt?

  • I created a website and I am using the checklist other than that I don't really use any of the other features.

  • I found a couple vendors on TK... except they were recommended through my local forum board not the actual "Vendors" page on the site! :D We also created our wedding website though TK which turned out to be rather convenient.

I REALLY wanted the budget tool to work, but frankly - it's terrible. So, I made my own in Excel.

  • I found my hair inspiration on TK.  But other then that I really didn't use it for much.  It was easier to use Google to find great and affordable vendors since the only way to be a vendor on the TK is to pay for it, so not everyone in my area was listed.

  • I use their guest list feature and seating charts I created my own excel sheets for budget, guest list, and checklist but do enjoy playing with the seating on here.

  • I mostly just use the forums.  I did look for a few vendors, mostly just to price compare the ones I had good reccomendations from friends on.  I kind of use the checklist but most of it is common sense stuff anyway.

  • I use the check list/to do list. That's it.
  • I used the checklist and chose my florist, alterations place, and string trio from forum reviews, so nope. Mostly the forums are all I've ever cared about.

  • I have the app on my phone, so I use it to look up dresses. That way I have an idea of the style of dress I'd like. Someone on the NYC boards gave me a list of her vendors, so I started with those. I also contacted a few vendors here, but I'm also going to start my own search on google. I am also going to see if any friends have recommendations.
