Is this thing on?

Re: Is this thing on?

  • H just called... we are hosting steak dinner for best man's birthday tonight.  I guess that means I need to go to the store for baked potatoes, asparagus and blue cheese, and do something with my pile of empty boxes out of the kitchen... grr.  I wanted to be ultimately lazy today.
  • Don't you love surprises like that Loopy?

  • Oh yeah... but at least I'll get to use my fun new square plates that I unpacked and washed yesterday :).

  • I love using new stuff.  I keep forgetting about the stuff we got for our shower.  We have a lot of neighbor nights in the summer, but not so much now.  Maybe I should have one.

  • I love using new stuff!  We have square plates too and I love them.  They weren't a shower gift though, that was part of my shopping obsession.  When the Mikasa store near me closed a few years ago I bought 8 place settings of it and kept them stored until I moved.  I love them though, and they hold a ton of stuff.

  • Missy what does your H do that he's on call?

  • We used to live in a duplex with friends of ours, and another friend lived next door so the 6 of us would grill out and drink Coronas and margaritas a lot in the summers.  I miss those days.
  • So I had the bright idea to go to Costco today.  I need a new dog bed, and some other things, but now I really don't want to get off the couch.

  • LOL - that's why I'm still here knotting instead of getting started on cleaning up my disaster of a kitchen.

Yeah we have a group of 6 too, it's a lot of fun.  We grill and drink usually at least once a week in the summer - just another reason I hate winter.

  • I'm gonna go in the other room for a while though.  H said if I break the boxes down, he'll take them to work and put them in the cardboard compactor so they get recycled.
And I'm hungry - so I'll find something for lunch in the kitchen :).
  • Yeah I'm supposed to take the dog for a walk and run to the NEX before football starts.  Yet here I am still, knotting in my pajamas.

  • oot mentioned having a maid last night and I'm super jealous.  I want a clean house, but I don't wanna clean it.

  • I miss having people to have cookouts with.  H's old boss who was his best friend at his old station used to come over with his wife and their son all the time to grill out and have some drinks.  Or we would go there.  When we moved here the ship was already gone so we didn't get to meet anyone, but I've made a few friends.  Hopefully once it gets warmer we can grill and have little get-togethers.  We bought the grill, now we just need friends and nice weather.  And H to operate the grill.

  • KJB - we had someone come in and clean the house the week before the wedding.  I almost cried when I walked in... I asked H if we could keep her, but he said no :( LOL.
  • I hear ya, I have no idea how to work the grill. Even when I had my own condo, I had a grill, but I never used it by myself.  H always did.
When you come visit, we'll grill out :)  We'll try not to blow ourselves up in the process.

  • Haha sounds good!

H would never let me hire a cleaning lady.  Luckily though he is really good about cleaning.  And he's much better about laundry and dusting than I am, so it works out well.

  • Our house would look like a frat house if H was in charge of the cleaning.

  • Haha that's how most men are.  My jaw hit the floor when I first went to H's apartment and saw how nice and clean it was, and that he had nice furniture.  Mind you, at the time he had a ping pong table in place of a dining room table, but we eventually replaced that.  That's definitely the military in him though since when you live in the barracks you're always subject to room checks and everything needs to be clean.

  • So I just made the mistake of looking up what all the listing prices are for the houses for sale on our street.  Big mistake.  Damn.

  • FI actually does most of the cleaning here. When I first met him, his apartment was a mess though.
  • My ILs are non-cleaners, so I'm giving H the benefit of the doubt since that's how he grew up.  He will do things if i ask, but it never occurs to him to do things without being asked.

  • Okay ladies I need to get my butt moving or I will never get anything done.  Hopefully I get my laptop soon so I don't have to be upstairs to knot anymore.  I'm sure I'll be on later.

    Sorry, was busy cooking.

H went to school for computer and electrical enginnering. He is a resident contractor at the paper mill where we live. He is part of a 3 man crew where every 3rd week he is on call. He can get called out any time of the day or night, and it sucks.

Thankfully this on call week (it started on Friday) hasn't been that bad thus far, but it is pretty much forbidden to talk about around here, bc we always seem to jinx it. Whenever he is on call, we just don't talk about work. But it makes it hard to go or do anything fun, bc he could have to go out there at any minute. I feel like I am married to a doctor sometimes. If only he made a dr's salary...

Last year on Christmas day, he spent most of it at work, which really sucked. Since he is the new guy, he gets all the holidays and everything.
