St. Thomas/St. John Destination Wedding

Hi All,

Anyone have their destination wedding in St. Thomas or St. John? I am thinking about a US Virgin Islands wedding and would like some feedback from those who've had their wedding there or plan to in the future! Recommednaitons are always welcome.

Thanks! :)

    Hi Keri!

We are having our wedding this coming Monday on St. John at Caneel Bay.  I will definitely give you a full report once we return, but so far, it has been an absolute breeze to plan.  We decided on Caneel because some friends went there for their honeymoon and raved about it.  We are relatively low-key, laid back people who don't want a ton of fuss, thus the elopement package/DW idea.  Caneel doesn't have television's or phones in the room plus St. John is an absolutely beautiful island (I've been once before).

The process was simple: we initially worked with Robyn who gave us a cost estimate then she linked us to Vera who has coordinated everything.  Literally, all that we had to do was choose a cake flavor and that was that.  You fill out the marriage license application, mail it in with a check/money order, then follow up a few days later to make sure they have everything there at the court and that's it!  Once Vera has your deposit, she secures all of the vendors.  Example, Vera secured Blueglass Photography which I've been following on Instagram and their work is AMAZING.  The pastor who will officiate also has excellent reviews, so I know that she only secures top notch vendors.

Just to give you an idea, we will be there for a week (Friday-Friday) and our week will look like this:

Friday: Arrive on St. Thomas.  Caneel has a service where a taxi will take you to the ferry (which is a private Caneel ferry and they offer rum punch one you're on:).  We will go directly to the court house on St. Thomas to swear in and pick up our marriage license.  Ferry over to St. John & check in.  I will give my gown to the desk so it can be pressed and ready for Monday.

Saturday:  We will relax at Caneel.  Breakfast is included daily in the room rate and is either brought to your room in a picnic basket (you can eat in your room, beach, whatever) or you can join other vacationers and eat buffet style.  We will eat dinner at ZoZo's which is in the old sugar mill and has incredible sunset views and people rave about the food.

Sunday:  We will eat breakfast then we plan to rent a jeep to explore St. John for the day and find a place to eat dinner in town.

Monday:  Wedding day!  Exchange gifts/letters over breakfast, then Vera will pick me up at 2:30 for my hair appointment.  Pictures start at 4:30, ceremony is at 5, then a 5 course dinner on the beach at sunset.

Tuesday:  Massages at 10am on the beach then relaxing at Caneel.

Wednesday:  Snorkel at Caneel/check out the other beaches there.

Thursday:  Day sail to the British Virgin Islands (passport required) to snorkel and visit Soggy Dollar.

Friday:  Head home in the late afternoon.

Hopefully this gives you some idea of a DW.  We plan to be really relaxed, have some things planned and of course have some time to just enjoy the scenery and relax.

If you have instagram, I encourage you to find Caneel Bay or #caneelbay to understand what it looks like through guests eyes.  There are wild donkeys there and deer that roam freely.  To me, it seems like paradise, which is exactly what I was looking for :)

Sooooo this is really long, but hopefully helpful!
