My fiance hates my dress...on his friend's wife

My fiance's friend got married recently, and he was looking through photos of it on Facebook.  He was pointing out how he didn't like the wife's makeup / how she looked, and showed me some of the pictures.  Well, she was wearing the same dress I bought!  I said "I don't know about her makeup, but I like her dress."  He said he doesn't care for that either.  OUCH!

Obviously I love my dress and with less than 8 weeks to go, I can't exactly change it (assuming it ever arrives..but that's another story).  How do I get over the fact that he doesn't seem to like it?

Re: My fiance hates my dress...on his friend's wife

  • Hi there! I can't imagine what you're going through, but hopefully what I'm about to say will help. The same dress on two different girls doesn't always look like the same dress. It sounds like your fiancé didn't like how his friend's wife looked on her wedding day. But I guarantee you that when you walk down the aisle, he'll think you're the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. If he's anything like my fiancé, he won't even know it's the same dress. As someone who's dealt with dress regret, take the advice I got: you picked the dress for a reason, and he's going to die when he sees you in it. Post a pic of it when you can!
  • Don't worry about it. I have never heard of a groom not thinking his bride looked great on the wedding day unless he really wasn't into her in the first place.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Oh dear!  I agree with PP.  You'll look completely different in the dress than she did, and you could walk down the aisle in a potato sack and your FI would still think you were the most beautiful woman in the world.

PPs FI and 80% of men.

Was he specific about what he didn't like, or was it just a general brush off?  If the latter, it probably wasn't flattering on her.  If the former, you can certainly get your seamstress to make a few alterations, but I wouldn't be overly worried about it.

Here's the important bit:  YOU love the dress, YOU look amazing in the dress, and don't let what FI - or anyone else for that matter - make you second guess yourself.

I really hope you start feeling better about this.  If you're still worried, let us know what dress it is and if possible, what it was he didn't like about it, and you'll get some great suggestions from the ladies here.  Most likely, the other woman just didn't own it.

  • He won't even know it's the same dress. Plus stuff like that looks different on every physical body.

  • Your FI will love the dress because it's on you. Besides, the dress will look different (and fabulous) on you.

  • Your figure, your hair, your accessories and your radiant smile will certainly make it a totally different dress! Agree with PPs, most men wont even notice it's the same dress!
