Holiday Desserts

So its time for the holidays and all the sweets that come along with it. So what are you ladies baking this year? Or what favorite recipes do you have for the season?

This year, FI and I got the sweets for Thanksgiving dinner. We made pumpkin pie and a blueberry cobbler.

I also decided to try this sinfully fattening peppermint sugar and spice cake. It has cream cheese, pudding mix, and dark chocolate in it. So delicious!

And then for the adults at the party, I decided to experiment with some raspberry liqueur, Irish whiskey, and whipping cream all finished off with a drizzle of chocolate and fresh raspberries. I whipped up the liquor, cream, and some raspberries until stiff. It is now the filling for both chocolate cups and a filo crust layered with chocolate ganache both under and on top of the cream filling. I'm still debating whether I should incorporate a mint sprig for garnish or not...

I work for a pastry company, so I usually just get cheesecakes and layer cakes from work.
I do bake cookies though. My favorite to make are lemon ricotta cookies with icing. So good!

All things pumpkin. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin eggnog pie, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin cake roll. Pecan pie. Caramel pecan cheesecake. H's grandpa loves my sour cream apple pie so I'll probably make that at some point.

I'm making a ginormous italian feast for 12/6 and I think I'm going to make my own egg nog ice cream maybe? If not, I'll make some super chocolatey gelato.

I usually bake and mail out cookies to people. I get a lot of my recipes from old Christmas cookie-focused issues of Gourmet magazine.

It's DELICIOUS. Gets all custardy, but not so much that it's gooey. I use honeycrisp apples, thinly sliced with the skins on, and a deep dish pie plate. Reduce the sugar in the filling to 1/2 cup and eat at room temperature. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/sour-cream-apple-pie-deluxe/

I make Peanut Butter Blossom cookies for work during the holidays. My grandma makes a delicious no bake cherry cheesecake for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. I make cinnamon rolls from scratch for Christmas morning.

@wrigleyville you should try these! I think I originally got this recipe from a Pampered Chef cookbook, and won a 4H trophy for them when I was 14. ;-) You just have to grease the mini muffin tins REALLY well.

For Christmas, my family always makes candies. I usually make some cookies too. We make buckeyes, caramels, toffee, chocolate covered peanuts, fudge, almond bark, and those m&m chocolate pretzels.

Red velvet cake. My grandma always (and only) makes it at Christmas, and it's the best I've ever had. She also makes shortbread press cookies that are so simple but so delicious.

Whenever I'm bringing dessert somewhere, almond bars and cream cheese mints are my go-to.

My mom is making kolachi for the first time in years. Im super excited.

With dads diabetes we haven't really been doing lots of sweets. But with the chemo and radiation his dr said as long as he's monitoring his blood sugar, they dont care what he eats he needs the calories. Im making at least three dozen chocilate chip cookies to take to him this week. Ive two huge bags of chocolate chips so I might experiment with other recipes.

Gonna have dh look through his mom's cookbooks for a favorite holiday dessert and make it for him

This past weekend, I made:

Peanut Butter Cookies

Pecan Pie Cookies

Some thing where you layer brownie with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sherbet

Pecan Pie
Marbled brownie bars

And FI made:

Peanut Butter Roll

Butterscotch Pie

Those are the only two things he knows how to bake so he makes a bunch of it every year.

And sometime before Thursday, I'm also required to make a pumpkin pie.

I make pumpkin flan for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. My gramma used to do it and now I do it for the family. I loathe making them but they're absolutely wonderful.

For DH's family, I make pumpkin flan for Thanksgiving and cookies for Christmas. I end up getting requests for specific cookies so I just make whatever I'm asked for.

I also make chocolate-covered candied orange peel for my family. It was sold through a local candy store but we found that homemade is much better. I stopped following a recipe years ago but it's something like this:

With the leftover melted chocolate, I tend to dip dried fruit, pretzels, and other randomness to decorate the boxes/trays of cookies.
