Shipping Gown To Australia

Hi! I have a friend who was married in October and wants to sell her wedding gown. She found a buyer in Australia- however, she has no idea how much shipping will cost! She is concerned about going through customs/insurance as well... has anybody had experience shipping overseas? Or a ballpark estimate of how much it may cost? Thank you!

Re: Shipping Gown To Australia

  • Her best bet is to take it to the post shop, UPS or FED EX in the packaging and they can give her the cost of shipping and insurance.  If she lists the dress as a "gift" on the customs declaration the other person might not have to pay duty.  BUT, customs may demand duty because of the cost and the buyer might have to either pay duty, or convince customs it was a gift.  That's the buyers responsibility.
My parents shipped a box for Christmas to New Zealand and it was $115 to ship to us.  This would have weighed less and was smaller then an average size wedding dress, unless it is a chiffon or lightweight dress.
    Hope that helps a bit.
  • I agree with PP to have her put it in a box & take it to a place to get exact price. I would plan for at least $100.00 The bigger the dress/box, the more it will cost. I know my husband recently shipped a box for work from Ohio to the Phillipines. The box was about 12" x 12" x 12" and I think it was about $115.00. If I were her I would get the price on the shipping & make sure the buyer is ok with paying for the cost of the shipping.
