So yes, we waited a really long time to take a honeymoon.  We are going to Vegas in April for our 1 year!  Any recommendations on what to do and see would be great!!!!

I could spend days just watching the Bellagio fountains. :)

Any of the shows. I went to the Cirque du Soleil "Love" show (the Beatles one) and it was so fun.

I also loved just walking through all the hotels because they were all really unique and beautiful. The Venetian has a canal with gondolas inside it, and a gelato place right by the canal. The Belagio has the most beautiful lobby EVER.

Every restaurant we went to was awesome. The Pink Taco in the Hard Rock hotel was super delicious. So you kind of can't go wrong. I can't think of a single place that I would tell you to steer clear of.

Freemont Street (the old strip) is a pedestrian-only street covered by a canopy, and the underneath of the canopy (so look up when you're walking) has a crazy lazer light show thing.

Madam Toussaud's was fun too. I didn't really go to any clubs because I'm not a club person, but you have tons of options if that's something you're interested in.

I LOVE the dueling piano bar in New York, New York. I would suggest going In the afternoon when the music is just as awesome, but the bar is dead and drinks are cheap...and there's no line and no cover charge.

I absolutely loved the Beatles Love Cirque show and Blue Man Group show. If you have a rental car, definitely check out Hoover Dam and the famous welcome to Vegas sign.

Yes to the Bellagio fountains.  Go many times.

Cirque shows are all good, but O and Zumanity are my favourites, then Ka.  I haven't seen the new Michael Jackson one though.

Go to Bouchon in the Venetian for breakfast.  Super amazing.  Gordon Ramsey Steak was pretty good, as was the restaurant at the top of the Eiffel tower, which surprised me a little.  The tables for 2 face the Bellagio fountains.  But they rush you through there pretty quick.

Oh yeah, I've seen Blue Man twice in Chicago and I'm dying to go again cuz it is so so so fun. I've heard the one in Vegas is even better!

Also, rent a car (parking at all the hotels is free) so you can drive around outside of The Strip.

There are several State/National Parks that are within driving distance.  One is just outside of Vegas, Red Rock Canyon I think, and then there is Valley of Fire (?) that is supposed to be pretty cool..

If you have the money I would splurge for a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon.  If not, I think it would be worth the time to drive over to see it and possibly spend one night there so you can see a little more.

A lot of the hotels/casinos have free stuff to see/do that are fun to explore.  The lion enclosure at MGM, fountains at Bellagio and a smaller (kind of cheesy) fountain show at Little Ceasar's, a large fish tank at one down by the airport (I can't remember the name), etc.

We are staying at the Flamingo.

The nachos and mac and cheese at Planet Dailies (24 hour diner inside Planet Hollywood) are the best 4am drunk foods.

The Flamingo is nice and central, so that's good, and it's small compared to a lot of nearby properties which makes it easier to get out onto the Strip faster, also good. My parents stay there often because of the location (that's where they're staying for our wedding in May, too.) I'm a big princess though and we usually stay at Aria or Palazzo so I don't really have recommendations for what's actually on property (other than the beautiful gardens.)

I'll echo that LOVE is great - we liked Zumanity too (and it's one of the least expensive Cirque shows) but I think if you want more of an "adult" show, Absinthe at Caesar's (not Cirque, but similar in style) is a lot better than Zumanity. It was fantastic. O is good but for the price of the tickets, I'm not sure it was worth it for us as the other Cirque shows are as good in my opinion, and cheaper (though I haven't seen the Michael Jackson one yet.)

I can't recommend strongly enough that you book an evening limo tour of the Strip. They run about 2.5 - 3 hours, are under $200, and you get a private limo and driver to take you to the sign, the fountains, the volcano, Freemont Street, etc., to take pictures and stuff. I've done it twice and the drivers are fantastic tour guides - ours even took us into a couple hotels to show us things we would never have seen otherwise (like the shark tank pool at Golden Nugget on Fremont.) Lots of limo companies offer them and you can even get them on Expedia prepaid.

My two favourite places for a fancy cocktail are the Chandelier Bar in Cosmopolitan (actually inside a giant chandelier...) and Parasol Up/Down at the Wynn. They are beautiful and we always have at least one drink there.

FI's favourite thing to do in Vegas is just to walk around from hotel to hotel and look at everything, honestly, and it's free.

We also always ride the roller coaster at NYNY (it's not huge or scary but it is fun and there's a good view too), go to one brunch buffet at one of the higher-end hotels (we like Aria and Wynn...crab legs for daaaaaays, everything all individually plated instead of at a trough, and you can add-on unlimited mimosas and stuff), and do the zipline at Fremont Street.

Most of my Vegas trips center around booze, blackjack, and craps, so I don't have an abundance of recommendations, but here are some of my Vegas favorites:

    Shows:
-If you like raunchy, Absinthe is hilarious. It's also in a small venue, so not a bad seat in the house.
-I also like Zumanity- it's a sensual Cirque Soleil

    Food
-Holstein's in the Cosmopolitan- one of the best burgers I've ever had
    -CraftSteak at MGM

Nightlife- I'm not too into clubs, but I do enjoy them in Vegas. Even if you're not that into the clubs, I think the Ghost Bar at the Palms is worth a visit simply because of the view of The Strip. Also, the place is huge (including the patio), so it doesn't feel overly crowded.

    Food!!!
*Anything at the Wynn - SW Steakhouse is our favorite.
*We like Holsteins at the Cosmo for burgers, prefer it over Gordon Ramsay's BURGR. His Gordon Ramsay Steak is pretty delicious though.
*Javier's at Aria is really good mexican.
*Hard Rock Cafe on the strip is also a fun place.. pretty good food, great drinks, and the view of the strip makes for an interesting/fun dinner view.

Ditto the Dueling Piano Bar.... at night there can be quite a line to get in so as PP said, go in late afternoons or just figure the wait in to your night.

Fashion Show Mall, Forum Shoppes, and Miracle Mile are all "big" malls, then each hotel has the higher end shopping inside. City Center is also a big shopping place but IMO mostly high end expensive stores. Fun to window shop though.

Someone mentioned Red Rock Canyon... it really is beautiful. Great hiking for all levels and just gorgeous scenery.

We aren't nightclub people so I can't comment on that.

April is a great time of year here, weather wise. What time of the month are you coming? That's Spring Break for many so be prepared for that... things will in general be busier.

Cirque de Soleil-  Beatles Love is a must see! It was my first show there and I loved every minute of it.

New York, New York rollercoaster is pretty fun. If I remember correctly you can buy a ticket and it lasts all day. Also, there's an Irish restaurant at this hotel that has amazing mac 'n cheese. DH and I ate there last year and it was sooo good.

When/if you go to the Bellagio, it has one of the best drinks I've ever had. Frozen Peach Bellini.

If you get tired of the strip, I always like taking a drive out to the sign (photo opp!) and then having dinner at The Bootlegger.  It's a little Italian spot off the strip.  If he's still alive, a sweet little old man plays the piano.  It's not all neon and swank, it's just honest good Italian food.  I go on my last night in Vegas each trip as a "detox" from all things shiny and new there.

And 3:00 p.m. margaritas, chips, and salsa at Dos Caminos.  It'll be really quiet in there at the off hour--good place to grab snack and relax for what's next.

Yes!  First trip for me, second for DH.  Dh was only there for a day and a half for a work conference so he didn't really get to enjoy himself or explore.

If you're into old/classic Vegas, head over to the Neon Boneyard. It's full of the old neon signs from the wayback:

It's also a popular place for wedding photos:

Do you like brunch? If so, I highly recommend Hash House A Go Go. Excellent food and cocktails.

Also, any Cirque du Soleil show is a good bet. I saw Ka there and loved it.

There are 2 places on the strip that sell half price tickets for shows the day of. Something to keep in mind. I went with a prioritixed list in case our first choice or two were not available.

    Love Vegas!
Any cirque show, Zumanity is fun and saw Zarkana last time we were there.
Eat at Julian Serrano if you want some AMAZING food, little spendy but totally worth it!
Also, if you have time take a trip down to Freemont Street, think old school Vegas, cheap food and great people watching!

Been to Vegas 20+ times, and we had our wedding there.

The best advice you'll get is to take comfortable, broken-in walking shoes. You can't even begin to imagine the amount of walking you'll be doing. Save the cute, strappy little sandals for dinner and a show -- nobody cares what's on your feet but you.

Remember that just because you can see it, doesn't mean you can walk to it. You can see the Rio from the Strip. Don't try to walk to it.

The second-best advice you'll get is, don't kill yourselves trying to do and see it all. Vegas isn't going anywhere, you can always go back. Plan one touristy thing and one meal per day and play the rest by ear. For instance, plan to see the Bellagio fountains and then have lunch at Mon Ami Gabi. Don't "plan" anything else; just go wherever the day takes you.

I also would never recommend that a virgin rent a car. You'll have plenty to keep you busy on the Strip. Also, don't plan anything time-sensitive for the day you land. Delays happen.

Yes, but the Strip is several miles long, and a car is easier than taxi's and the tram (that doesn't run the length of the strip).

A car isn't necessary, but it is worth it to me.

That surprises me, honestly. Even the time we drove to Vegas and had our own car with us, we never once took it out of the parkade. Once you deal with the traffic and wait for valet, you might as well have walked or cabbed. Also, it's nice not to have to worry about having a drink somewhere or whatever. I'm also on the "no car" side for sure.

We don't plan on renting a car.  We are going to sight see for sure, but figured we would just take the tour buses they offer.

I have been to Vegas a ton of times.  Not once have I used my car, unless we were actually leaving the city to do something.  Walking or taking a taxi is a way better use of time.  If you're staying on the Strip and localizing your trip to activities on it, driving your car around will be a waste of time.

Not to mention the buses that run up and down the Strip that do stop at each hotel/casino. You can get a 24-hour pass for $8.
