  • Scout - our youngest, a black lab/pit mix rescue, will put herself to bed. When I go to get in the bed, I'll feel a wet spot. She hasn't peed, she's just LICKED THE COVERS SO MUCH THAT SHE LEAVES A COLD WET SPOT. Thanks a lot, pup.

She also loves to torment our 4 year old beagle mix rescue, Duff. Whenever he farts she darts from wherever she is so she can get a full inhale of his gas. What a weirdo.

  • Our rescue puts himself to bed too.

After his final pee for the night he will go to the stairs, turns and nods his head good night, then up to "his bedroom".    He claimed the queen size bed in the spare room as his.  We stripped it of the covers and stuff. Only an old fitted sheet is on there so it's easy to clean.

Everything night between 8-9 it's the same thing.

My other little dog that now lives at my parents has an obsession with digging in the carpet. He will plant the top of his head on the ground, then use his back legs to hold him up, and power dig with the front legs. It doesn't damage the carpet or anything, but he is just furious about it. We always joke there are people in the floor telling him to do it. Anyone else's little dog do this?! He's very strange.
My dog does this!  He's a silky/Yorkie terrier little thing, and he does this when he's happy (I think).  His new favorite is to do it right where FI and the bed meet, so he tries to burrow under FI.  He also madly chases his tail.

Dog will also demand playtime, and if we are on the couch but not paying enough attention, he gets on the top of the couch and drops his toys on us (usually on our shoulders... little guy has good aim).

  • i got a few story about dogs in my family.
    1) we had a beagle who use to plop his butt down and start scooting on it.
    2) my sister had a golden lab who on my nephews second bday took a piece of cake straight off the table on the plate and started eating it. no one noticed until my sister stepped on the plate.
    3) my FI cat chirps when he sees something he wants to chase outside and he cant get to it because he is in side.
    4) his siberian husky is the funniest dog ever. she will pout if you dont let her clean your dish. she hates her cage but as soon as you mention bath she hides in it.
    5) my sisters new dog loves to chew underwear. knows exactly what you are talking about. one time he was chewing on a balloon and my sister saw and asked what he was chewing on and he very fastly swallowed it.

Our Yorkie does the digging thing as well! When we first brought him home at 3 months old, he would take his little bones and attempt to dig and "bury" them in his bed. It was so stinkin adorable. He also cops a little attitude when he's not getting his way and does this weird back kick thing, almost like he's moon walking. No idea what that's all about.

My bulldog gives herself a bedtime too. She has a bed in the living room and a bed in the bedroom, but only one pillow. Every night between 9 and 10, she will get up, drag her pillow to the bedroom and go to bed. She'll give us the hairy eyeball if we're being too loud.

EDIT. She has a pillow. And she uses like one should use a pillow. She adores that thing. When it gets gross and we have to get her a new one, we have to give her the new one and let her have both for a few days or she sits by the garbage can (even if the pillow has been taken out) and whines.

  • Last weekend I put together the pack n' play with bassinet/infant sleeper attachments for baby to sleep in for the first 5 months (in our room). I put it in a corner where I was hoping kitty couldn't get into it...but I'm taking a shower, come out, and there she is snuggled up in the infant sleeper! It was, on the one hand, super cute, but on the other hand, super bad. If kitty got in there with baby she could accidentally suffocate him. So I had to be really stern. If it happens again I've heard that laying down aluminum foil works. I really don't want to have to kick kitty out of the bedroom once baby arrives :(

I used to use foil to keep my dog off the couch while I was at work. It worked really well for me, for a while. Then she apparently grew some balls one day and I came home to the foil pulled off the couch (four little holes where she had slapped her hand and pulled it off) and a nice warm spot where a bulldog ass had been.

I hope it works for you - that can be scary. :/

I tried it on our new arm chair a couple of months ago. It did work, but once I wanted to sit in it/have people over, kitty resumed scratching. I think this might work a little better, because kitty would have to jump into it, and then she'd probably be startled by the foil and jump right back out. We'll see.

Our bulldog does this too. He has his own bedtime between 9-10pm, and he will put himself to bed. But if you have the TV too loud or are being noisy, he will give you the stink eye. This is followed by a loud huffing sigh if the noise doesn't stop, culminating is a whiny child voice like crying noise until it is quiet enough for his liking.

Bulldogs and their stink eyes are hilarious.

My bulldog doesn't put himself to bed.  He just sleeps on my legs until I go.  Sometimes he will go to the stairs after the rescue has gone up almost to say "yo, it's bed time people".  Of course, while giving us major stink eye.

Our kitten is a little over 6 months old now and she climbs everything.  This includes climbing the curtains in our bedroom and doing chin-ups from the curtain rod. Our Christmas tree was so pitiful looking from all of her climbing that I almost took it down before Christmas, since we were going to be out of town anyway.

About a week ago, she discovered that she can jump up onto the headboard of our bed and sit there.  Which she does, as soon as we get ready for bed.  I wouldn't mind it so much (it's better than her climbing the curtains) except she's not too good at getting down yet and often jumps onto our heads, which is a little terrifying when it wakes you from a sound sleep.  She's also figured out how to get up to the big cat's hiding spot.  Big cat is not happy.

Our cat is almost a year old and he is obsessed with our headboard! He races up my side and launches up on it.

Last night, we put dinner in the oven and then didn't hear any destruction for a while, so I go in the kitchen and find him sleeping on top of the oven. He was SO HAPPY. :) I tried to attach a picture, but I'm on my iPad. I have no idea if it worked.

  • My Bella will sit next to me on the couch and  stare at me until I pet her.

If I stop petting her, she will paw at me until I start petting her again.

She knows what the word outside means.  When you say it, she flies to the door and starts turning circles until you put her leash on.

My parent's dog has a stuffed lamb toy.  When anyone walks in the door she gets so excited and runs to her toy box and gets the lamb and holds it in her mouth until we tell her to drop it.  It's so random.

  • @FiancB you can replace those pieces! The box usually comes with another set, but try googling for them :)

At bedtime, Raider is let outside to do his "bedtime" pottying and sometimes we spy him through the window just playing and rolling in the grass. He'll trot back over to the door and step in and I say, "Raider, did you do your bedtime poopies?" And he'll shrink his head back in shame and turn around and sulk back out the door and immediately follow directions. It's like "No.. I'm sorry momma.."

It's SO stinkin cute that he knows he's been called out and he just turns around in shame to actually go do his business.

  • I have a cat who is obsessed with anything green and leafy: houseplants, flowers, lettuce, kale, etc. Yesterday my FI bought me this gorgeous bouquet for V-Day and the cat immediately jumped up on the counter and tried to eat it. I put it on a high shelf so he wouldn't destroy it but he has been stalking it ever since, staring at it longingly from a distance...

Once when I was living in Auburn, I returned home from work to find the entire litter box rolled. My two cats had pulled the entire roll off, and it was all piled neatly in the box, no spillover or anything. The litter box was across the bathroom from the TP. I was too impressed to be angry.

  • Squirt, my tuxedo chubber baby (7 yr old cat), is a loves whore. I come home from work, and she's immediately stretching out paws and turning her head over or plopping down at my feet for belly rubs, head scratches, and attention. She's also fond of ice cold drinks, particularly ice itself in a champagne bucket, thankyouverymuch. She dips her paws in the water, and licks it off, but is otherwise quite lazy.

Her Royal Highness, my tabby cat, Mopsy, is a total attention whore. If you've got food, she wants a taste. If you're giving Squirt loves, Mopsy gets jealous. I'm a favored perch at night because I don't move around as much as DH. Lord help you if you lock her out of the bedroom- you get serenaded.

DH got me a dream catcher for Valentines Day. Her Fluffiness was not pleased- she felt this was a feathery toy for her enjoyment. Once the video of her bitching is up on youtube, I'll link it here.

Oh, yes, definitely, if they'd done it more than once I'd probably punch them in their little stinky noses. But the one time, it was cute.

  • Maury is our mostly pit mix. He's exceptionally sweet with a tail that never stops wagging with glee. When anyone is sick or sad, he's got this amazing sense of what they need- warm dog sitting on their feet.

He's not a natural for the Midwest. The sound of snowplows scares him, he whines about going outside in the snow, and will absolutely refuse to go for walks in the winter. For now, he goes outside to do his business then runs right back into his crate to sit on his warm bed.

Also, he's going through a serious masturbation phase. He can happily spend hours licking at himself. It got to the point where we checked with the vet. I guess we have 2 teens boys going through puberty right now...

  • I am late to this party, but my cats have the weirdest habits. One cat likes to lick things: reusable grocery bags mostly, but also the shower curtain, which makes her lip swell up because, you know, gross.

The other cat sucks her paw, which apparently normal for some cats. We googled it and it has something to do with nursing. So then FI was like she just wants my milk! To which I was like:

  • My tough outdoor rabbits have become indoor rabbits (because I am weak and spoil them), but the transition was hilarious.  My white one, Famine, decided that being outside was no fun, so she would beg at the door to be let in.  But then she would forget that it was cold outside, so she would beg to be let out, take two steps into the snow, then come back.  So I moved them inside, but I was letting them out for a few hours a day to get them some sunshine, and Famine decided to hide under the couch every morning when I woke up because she knew that was when she would have to go outside.  The other one misses the outside, but doesn't want to go out without her, so inside he stays.

  • My Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix, Lucy, came into the bedroom and farted so loudly she scared herself!  It was hilarious.
