Thoughts on a centerpiece idea

I dunno how much this really counts as DIY since I technically didn't make any of it, but I did all the work so I count it. :)

Everything came from Dollar Tree except the sticks and the food coloring; the sticks I cut off of a tree in our backyard for the test run, and I already had the food coloring from a cake I made a couple weeks ago.

Total cost per centerpiece: $6.31 including tax (used 1/2 of a container of floral gem things; used 1/4 of a pack of tea lights)

The silver frame is there to act as place card type thing. It's not included in the centerpiece itself. I'm still debating it. Silver is one of our colors, but I'm debating the overdoneness of frames as place cards.

Fingers crossed for picture attachment.

  • I think they're pretty!

  • Thanks! I like them a lot, but I'm thinking they're just a little plain - all glass and blue and sticks. Would a sheer ribbon in silver or white be too much?

  • You could spray some of the sticks with silver glitter spray, or submerge a white flower in the water. I think a thin ribbon band around would be nice - secured with hot glue or double sided tape, not a bow.

Oooooh I hadn't thought of glitterizing the sticks. The best part is the sticks are totally free. I've got access to ten acres of land with just about nothing but trees from which I can cull some sticks.

Definitely no bows. Bows make me crazy. I couldn't get a bow to look right if my life depended on it.

  • Another vote for spraying the sticks. That's what I did. Get some silver spray paint and go to town.
  • I think this looks very nice! I think the extra glitter would look great too and to work with this extra sparkle you could add a band of that rhinestone ribbon around the two water vases either around the middle or at the bottom to help "anchor" the look further.

The only "issue" I see is the tea lights. I know that mine can usually last for around 3 or so hours before they burn out. If your reception is longer than that you either have to make sure someone is around to light them just before the guests arrive or buy the long burn ones. I see that some of them are floating so I am not sure if the long burn ones float.

Just my thoughts, I think this is a classic design and it is in my favoriate color too!
  • Well, I'm glad to know I'm the only one who apparently can't see the pictures, hahaha...

I'm getting silver spray paint today! I need to go cut sticks for practice out at the old property; we only have fruit trees here, so I don't want to take a lot of the buds on those.

  • I'm also going to suggest a few moar sticks. But I like it!

I have that problem when I go back to my own thread, I can't see the attachments. But other people don't seem to have a problem seeing them.

    Mobile box quote.

Yep, I figured it was just me since not-me people are managing to find them. Gotta love TK forum "quirks" haha.

  • Love the silver spray paint idea! I would also add more sticks.

Are you thinking of having a frame at every seat (i.e. with the person's name) or every table (i.e. with a table number)? I think it would be too much at every seat, but nice at every table.

Either, or neither. Haven't decided yet; it depends on a few factors that haven't been figured out yet.

I don't know if it would be too much though; there's only going to be maybe 32 people, including ourselves. Depending on the setup, I don't know that it would be too much. (Although 32 frames is a lot haha.)

I'd use the frames for table numbers (ooh! or get wood numbers and spray them with metallic silver paint, since you won't have very many tables) and find some nice tent cards with the silver foil border for your escort/place cards. Like these.

I am going to take any excuse to spray paint stuff, hahaha. I love those cards too!

@edenisle IS IT COMING OUT RIGHT?! I couldn't tell for sure. I am not good with colors. But that is EXACTLY what I was shooting for. :)

  • Wow. This is really pretty. I think you could leave it just the way it is, but adding some sparkle to the sticks would be nice too. You could also put a mirror under some of the candles to get more light, but that might be overkill. You'd have to play with it.

What's really nice is that people will be able to see over and through the sticks to talk to people on the other side of the table instead of leaning. That's always a pet peeve of mine.
