How was the weekend?

Ours was OK.  Too short and we didn't do much of anything.  DH worked the whole time and I worked yesterday.  Saturday, it took me hours to get off the couch after I got out bed.  Working a crap-ton of OT last week caught up to me.

Lots of Olympic watching going on here.  We had dinner with my parents last night.

I did order this amazing pillow:

Re: Monday!

  • Thank goodness you posted this, because TK is being impossible this morning.  Couldn't create a Monday post, and then when I tried to reply earlier, it said "Whoops, you need to enable javascript to do that!"  Dafuq?

I did not leave early Friday, though I should have.  Two accidents on the way to pick up Wooz.  Then she was weeping in the car over "never seeing Cody [the horse] again."  Y'all, she did not cry this much when her neighbor-bestie moved to Idaho.  Picked up DS, and because of traffic and poor judgment, I took our usual route home, which went right past the sign for the barn.  DS said "Hi [horseback riding barn]!" Wooz said "Hi [barn] that I will never see again [insert more weeping]."  Then DS added "Bye [barn]!"  My kids, in a nutshell.

On the plus side, after dinner Wooz and I sat down with the website for the new place, and she decided that it looks even better than the old one.  They have a petting zoo, and they have profiles of their lesson horses on their website, which she was really into.  And a residential summer camp with a pool.  So I think she just might survive. ;)

Saw my mom yesterday, and she's doing really well.  She seemed less tired than she did after the first dose, and stayed awake a lot more.  (She actually ate a little lunch, and then took a nap, as opposed to dozing on and off pretty much continuously last time.)  Her oncologist said that after the first two doses, you have a pretty good idea of how you'll react, so that's encouraging.

When I got home, DS was literally screaming "Mommy! Mommy!  Mommy's home!"  And when I hugged him, he said "Mommy, you are da best mommy ever!"  ::melt::
  • My weekend was pretty great.
It was nice to have some girl time with FSIL and FMIL.
FH had lunch with his new boss and some other guys at his conference Friday. The VP said not to cancel anything because we will still be here in Oct. so Yay?! We are still waiting to get a start date from HR. They still want us to get married before starting the visa process. Words out of FH's mouth, "What other guys have done is get married on paper and then have their ceremony later." Ahhhgg!! I am just going to continue with this Oct. ceremony until I hear otherwise. Fuck it. Up next are invitations and flowers.

I am excited to go visit FH on Friday. I still haven't told my boss yet though, lol.
  • Went to visit my family in Buffalo Saturday. It was a ton of fun, but a lot of driving for only 24 hours in the city.

I was bummed because I fell asleep before the USA gymnastics bars and beam events but found the full replays on the NBC app so I can stream it all day while I'm working.

I'm trying not to think about how upset I am with H for not calling DirecTV to come fix our cable last week so I could watch and actually DVR the Olympics.  I'm trying really, really hard to remember why I love the man, and that it's just swimming, it's just gymnastics, it's just shit I don't see but once every four years...

    It's not working.

We did a fat lot of nothing this weekend, and I am completely unprepared for Monday.

Zombies invaded my dreams last night, and in one of them, they stole a roasting pan from the kitchen to catch my dog's farts, which they then sold to Fred and George Weasley for one of their Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.  I didn't even get credited for one Knut.

They just ate me in the rest of the dreams.

It was a seriously rough night.

  • This weekend we hung out with our friends who are foster parents to get some info on that, so that was nice. I'm researching like a fiend. I think I may be obsessing, actually. I need to chill.

Caught one of my good friends in a lie (I think) on Saturday, and I'm irrationally irritated over it.

This morning, I was heading out the door to the dentist when the office called and had to reschedule me because she is in the ER getting a hand x-ray. Not good for a dentist!  I hope she is ok.

  • I spent all weekend in bed.  I only got out for a picture taking commitment I made for Friday night that I couldn't find someone else to cover and Sunday night to pick up a friend's keys to watch his cats while he's out of town.  I just still feel horrible.  I had to call in sick on Friday b/c I had a fever.  This cold is killing me.  I still have a pounding headache from coughing and I'm nauseous from all the drainage.  K is actually being tested for pneumonia as I type.

This is going to be such a long day.

Saturday we spent the morning at the Farmer's Market and the afternoon/evening at the Browns scrimmage.  It was hot and boring to me, but it wasn't a boring party at the ILs.

Sunday I went to a wedding shower.  I kept thinking I was a contemporary of the bride.  Nope.  Her FI is DH's nephew.  I was in the aunt category and it felt really odd.  Then we went to the pool for one of M2's friends bday party.

    IL annoyance ahead:
2 wks ago MIL asked if she could come over and take the kids to a movie.  Sure, pick a day.  Last week she asks to do it this week.  Sure, pick a day.  Friday I text and ask if they're coming because I wanted to schedule some other things.   "Yes, we'll be there Tuesday!"  Great.

Yesterday DH was talking to his mom and she said she'd call me Tuesday morning with details or to pick another day.  God bless DH he actually said I don't work that way and she needs to pick a day and time and be done.  MIL asks me to call

I call her last night. "Well, we were going to go to the movies, but we have a lunch at noon and can't make the 1:55 movie and the other isn't until 3:55.(too late for 6let to make soccer practice).  We'll just go to a park and ice cream instead or we can pick another day."

I tell her she's killing me and we've got stuff the rest of the week.  "but you said your schedule was wide open."  It was until you picked a day!

It's supposed to rain tomorrow.  I know they are going to just end up playing here and annoying the piss out of me.
  • The weekend was alright. I didn't do anything other than sit around and binge watch American Horror Story. I did do some baking and cooking. I'm just feeling off. I'm 99% sure that I have the beginnings of a UTI or something. So it was nice to rest and not worry about getting out of the house.

DH and I had a little come to Jesus meeting last night. Long story short, we are currently paying for a storage unit that has a bunch of his dad's stuff in it that his cousin wants to keep. DH has maybe a box or 2 of stuff that he wants, and the rest is hers. (his dad has Alzheimer's and lives in an assisted living home). The payments for this unit put us behind quite a bit financially every month. It only makes sense to me that he should get his stuff out, and his cousin should pay for the unit since it is full of things that she wants. He's avoiding talking to her about it like the plague. UGH. He said he's going to call her this week. We will see.

So beautiful.   Hopefully next summer I will hike the 14er in the background.

@lyndausvi is that in the Crested Butte area?

    No, Maroon Bells (Aspen)

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We just got back from vacation (family obligation trip) and are now sorting out the home remodel made necessary by our 2 water leaks. Luckily everything beyond the master bath and deductible is covered, but we'll still have to go pick a bunch of stuff and live in a construction zone for ~3 weeks.

  • Morning. This is my last full week of work and I'm dreading it. Next week is just Monday and Tuesday, then Wednesday I mail my computer back. I really really really want it to be next week Wednesday. DS starts school tomorrow so he's home today. I'd rather spend time with him today. This weekend was OK. We did back to school stuff on Saturday. I ended up volunteering at the school for a few hours and met the mom of one of DS's friends. She was nice and we made some plans to have a play date which was nice. DD was in rare form this weekend. No other way to describe her other than colossal asshole. Mean, not listening, just ornery. I love her but she's a challenge. No Olympics for us. DH and I honestly have no desire to watch this year because of the BS with Rio.
  • I have been under a lot of stress and was dedicated to this weekend being mellow, except for major grocery shopping.

Success!  A lot of lounging around from late afternoon Saturday and all day Sunday.  I dubbed Sunday "Mimosa Day".  Except I didn't have any OJ.

Created a new cocktail.  Pure watermelon juice (bought at Costco on Sat.) mixed with champagne.  Surprisingly delicious.  I'm naming my cocktail "Summer Morning".

    And back to "stress" today.

  • Hi all!  Today has been crazy busy at work.

The weekend was packed and exhausting, but awesome.  Especially since I like FI again and have decided against shipping him back to China.  And I have a sunburn, which never happens because a.  I'm a psycho about sun screen (except for yesterday) and b.  I have olive complexion.  It took a lot of work this morning to make my face look like it was one cohesive color.

This week is going to be hard.  My BFF's birthday is Friday and she has notoriously bad luck on her birthday (floods, the great American black out, etc).  The plan is to get tattoos together that afternoon (non-matching), and then after I have surprise birthday thing set up for her across the street.

Well, this weekend she told me that I really hurt her feelings by ignoring her birthday (we always do a big thing for each other)  and like it's taking second fiddle to the wedding planning.  I don't know if I can hold this up for another week.  I told her I thought her and her BF were leaving Friday night to go out of town and set up a fake girls night with 2 of our friends Friday.  Now I have to figure out how to get her to the place for a drink.

  • My weekend was great!  Both lazy and productive, which is exactly what I needed it to be.

Friday we had a little bonfire in the backyard fire pit and met the new lady a friend is dating.  He was completely knocked on his ass by a divorce a couple of years ago, so it's really really good to see that he's getting out there again.

Saturday we ran some errands and took a little drive around the city.  Then just a quiet evening at home doing laundry and watching Netflix.

Sunday I dropped fi off at the airport for his latest business trip.  Then I used my new pressure canner for the first time!  I've been making a bunch of chicken stock from super cheap chicken I got at a restaurant supply store and yesterday there were a few batches ready to be canned.  Instant transportation back to childhood memories!  I'm not exactly a traditionalist on most things, but I so adore the idea of having a pantry lined with cans of food I prepared myself.  (I'm not there yet, but I am gaining steam!)
  • @kimmiinthemitten your friend is going to be so surprised, lol! This happened to my best female friend on her birthday too. She called me complaining about how she didn't really feel like anyone was into her birthday this year. She was super nice about it, understanding that her birthday isn't as big a deal to anyone else, we're getting older, people have lives, etc she was just a little sad. Little did she know, her BFF and BF planned a surprise party for her. She cried she was so happy.

@SaintPaulGal I started canning stuff last year, but the pressure canner scares me.  I just freeze my chicken stock.

I cannot recommend the All American line of pressure canners enough!  They look terrifying--like a super high tech piece of equipment you would find in a lab--and I was pretty intimidated to give it a go, but it was SO easy!  I want to can EVERYTHING now.
