Venue recommendations

I'm gathering info for a friend who is thinking about a March 2012 wedding. Ceremony would likely be in Jersey City, so I'm trying to gather places within maybe 30-45 minutes of there, with a price range of maybe no more than $115pp including tax and gratuity.

Places I'm sending her ... any other suggestions?

The Tides, Bridgewater Manor, Costa Del Sol, The Empire Club, Galloping Hill Inn and Berkeley Plaza (mentioning that we visited those two and didn't like them) ... also The Atrium, The Manor, Mayfair Farms, Gran Centurions, Perona Farms

Thanks all! I'll pass the word on to her.

BNR, she actually called the Hyatt and they quoted her $160-200pp, eeek! (I wish I could've found a JC-area venue myself, but everything there is SO expensive because of the stupid "skyline view" markups!!!)

The tides!! I am having my wedding there in June and I absolutley love the place.  There prices are very good and you can talk them down!! they came down like$20 a person for me. If you have a 12-5 reception it is also a lot cheaper.  Talk to Scott, he is wonderful! Good luck :)

I just had my reception there last week! I agree, we were very happy with everything there and I told her so. I think you will be very pleased with them.

And why did my screen name change to ButterflyKate or something a minute ago? Weird.

Agree. I find it hard to believe that Newark Club is in that range because a good friend got married there and price was definitely higher.

    Thanks all!

I also told her about Seabra's Armory, Ravello's, Courtyard on Main, The Restaurant in Hackensack, and The Landmark. And also suggested that she look into restaurants.

I don't know how many people they want to accommodate ... they're still undecided on a 100-200 person wedding, or something really small and simple.

i was just about to suggest the landmark...
i know it hardly, if ever, gets suggested on here....but i thought it was fantastic there, and all my guests said they had a fantastic time, and keep raving about how good the food was....
they just recently added some uplighting to the main room too (didn't have it when we had our wedding...) our min was at 175 for a saturday night

Thanks Danielle, I passed that one along to her as well. And it's probably within 20 minutes of the church they're thinking of, so that'd be a good spot for them to check out.

Did they have any other rooms there, or a mimimum of lower than 175 people? They don't have a guest list set yet but I'm getting the feeling that they want to keep it on the smaller side.

What's funny is that we were originally asked to guarantee 100 people, and then when they said they'd knock off $5pp if we bumped it to 125 we said, "Yeah, no problem, we can get 125 easy!" Then we were sweating that we'd be at the room's absolute maximum (160), THEN we were not hitting 125 and were getting scared ... we ended up paying for 125 and had maybe 120 show up because people took their sweet time deciding on whether they'd be coming. We were literally walking into the hall on our wedding day and the maitre d' handed DH a Post-It with a phone message from two people who suddenly couldn't make it!

they have 2 rooms upstairs, both smaller than the room downstairs, and one smaller than the other (if that makes sense?) i'm not sure what the minimums are for those, or if the $pp is different...i did see the one room (the middle size) and its nice...and there's an elevator to get upstairs as well as stairs.....i don't think they added the uplighting to upstairs though...

we first met with nella, and she was great...she was also there the night of the wedding....she was able to answer all of our questions when we met the first time

the min was really 200 (or so they said...) and they took it down to 175 for us...i think we ended up with 165-170 people...not sure really...

I didn't look into Newark Club for my wedding so I don't know exactly, but I brought it up because I know two people that got married there, one in April and one in November, both on Saturday nights. The April girl said her price was $110 and the November girl said $100...

I really do not think you can get the Il Tulipano, Il Villaggio, The Newark Club or the Stony Hill on that budget especially including tax and gratuity.  I recently did the wedding venue hunt and did not see prices like that on those places.

Ann400, a girl on the knot got a friday night in April 2010 at IL Villaggio for $105 including tax and gratuity.  It really depends on the time of year and day.  My wedding was $150 including tax and gratuity, but it was in September on a Saturday night so it was peak season.

btw, where did you end up booking?

Newark Club quoted me no less than $90 pp for a May 2011 Sunday afternoon. That was with a guarentee of 150 people. 125 people took the price up $5

I am really surprise with the amount that one girl is paying for a Friday night in April at the Il Villagio.  Either she got a great deal or they have increased their prices quite a bit.  I went there and was quoted $115-120 without tax and gratuityfor a friday night for the same time a year in 2011.

The newark club quoted me $135 for a Saturday night plus tax and gratuity. 150 people min.

It really depends on who you deal with, time of year, day, and package options. Maybe the prices have changed but they definitely got it for what I said. The November wedding was for one of my best friends and I did some of the leg work with her. She negotiated very well.

I've heard nice things about Stony Hill

You can definitely get Stony Hill Inn for that price if you don't do the Viennese.  And the longer out that you book with them the more likely they are to work with you.  The Sanzari family bought them out and they will wheel and deal. I went to a tasting there (free) and the food was amazing but I ended up booking with Season's instead.  Stony Hill was a close second.

I guess to get some of these rates you can remove stuff from the orginal menu/package that they offer.
My friend got married at the Stony Hill Inn on a Friday night in October 2006 (I know peak season).  $115 a head plus $10 extra a person for a seafood bar plus tax and gatuity.  Total $158 per person.

It was a great wedding so if you can get a lower price because of time of year, time of day, and taking stuff out then I recommend the Stonyhill inn.
