Wedding Woes

Tuesday

The kiddo is back to school.  YAY!

DefConn bit his tongue in gym class yesterday (falling off a rock wall? Um, coolest gym class ever).  He said something about it when he got off the bus, but I didn't really think anything of it.  Then I went to brush his teeth last night and all of a sudden there's blood everywhere (so gross).  I checked his tongue this morning (and took a pic, because I'm raising a tiny Busy and he wants to see all the gore) and it's still looking a little mangled.  :(  Poor guy.  He is eating and drinking OK, but tooth brushing is uncomfortable.   I'm surprised I didn't get a call.

Anyone watch American Ninja Warrior?  My new spirit animal is Jessie Graf.  She's a damn beast and could go all the way.

Since April-ish, I am down 5-6 inches and about 15 lbs.   And I feel fantastic.  Sleeping better and just don't wear out like I used to.

Oh and DefConn said, "Hell no!" in the correct context last night.  And I held together until I left the room and then went to have a private giggle with Mr. Conn.

  • @mrsconn23  jeez that must've hurt! Poor kid!

    @AtomicBlonde  congrats on approval :)

Idk what is going on, but things about the system at my work just isn't working. What the ever loving fuck!

Not much last night. Since nights are cooler, it's so much better to sleep. Except when I wake up nauseous and H is sweating like a pig, and won't move over. Guhh

H is working from home today because he had to take the car in to get that back panel fixed. It'll take about 5 days and we get a rental, but just to fix the back corner they're going to likely have to take off the whole side panel. -.-' *sigh*

Oh and the building has gotten to our side, and fixing the roof. Whole place was shaking and we're 2nd from the top.

Starting to be a crappy day all around ... hopefully it perks up.

Yay for back to school!  I hope Defconn's tongue recovers quickly.

I had to text Mr. Heff yesterday, because DS was playing with his cars and I heard him say "Hey, that's MY breakfast, Chick Hicks!  Give it back, goddamn it."  So DS and I had a chat, and I knew it came from DH.  (My cursing is mostly variations of "fuck," plus I don't think the kids usually hear it.)  Sure enough, this morning DH says "Goddamn it, why can't I ever find my keys?" He got a lecture from DS on why we don't say goddamn it.

Yesterday I was at an interview for so long that I think I developed Stockholm syndrome.  Today I am plagued by self-doubt.  (So, SO/SO.)

Wooz is loving second grade.  We're settling into the new-old routine again.

Oldtimers may remember my former boss who was arrested on child pornography charges.  He was recently arrested again.  So gross.  Here's hoping they keep him in jail this time.

    Holy crap!!

We've had a lot of teachers in my area - high school ones - getting arrested. One was a teacher from my school also. So creepy :\

I am now trained to do customer product quotes. I've been told there are at least one a day so YAY!  My computer is being a dick though and won't let me log on through the portal for emails. I need to log on through the portal to get bosses emails.

I think I've stalled on weight loss.
  • That's super creepy @Heffalump.

Good luck with the CEO visit @AtomicBlonde, hope it all goes well. And congrats on the approval, one step at a time.

All of my motivation and excitement of the first week back last week, that was making me reconsider leaving academic has rapidly diminished and I'm feeling pretty down. The administrative component of my job is taking up WAY more time than it should because apparently my predecessor was terrible, did nothing, and pissed everyone off. So there is a crap-ton of work that needs to be done, that no one told me about and is just mine to figure out. Awesome.

My students are good, but the annoying crap like talking during class, not reading the syllabus and directions, are really getting to me when I used to just shrug it off.
  • @VarunaTT  That sounds promising! That was like both my interviews for my current job and a friend of mine just got a new job, and her 2nd interview was like that :) Yay! Vibes and fingers crossed
  • The drywallers started yesterday at our house, which means we might actually be able to move in sometime in the fall rather than in the winter! We bought this house in May and did a total gut. We're doing most of the work ourselves, so nights and weekends, so it feels like it's taking forever. I'm so excited about all of the possibilities for it, but I also just want to move in! AHHHH. We have a ceiling in the guest bedroom now though, so progress!

I also tackled wedding thank you notes for the first time last night (I know, I know, it's been a month since the wedding as of today, but with honeymoon, new job and house reno I've been SO busy!) But I got 2/3 of them done so I'm feeling pretty good about that. Most of the ones not done yet are friends/family of DH that I don't know very well or at all, so I may delegate that to him.

  • Coworker guy who speaks really oddly is really getting to me. We sit close and he can't just call a carrier and say, "Hi, I'm Guy from Company and I'd like a quote for this". He says, "Hi, My name is Guy Guyberg G-U-Y-B-E-R-G from Company at 123 Street Road, City, IL, 66666, code number 123875 and if possible, I would like to have a quotation for your term product line introduced in 2014 to present to a team member's client for proposal". Like, I'm not exaggerating. That's his greeting to the poor sap who answers the phone.

I was making fun of him to H saying that he couldn't just order a Coke at a McDonalds. He'd say, "If possible, I would enjoy having a large Coke-A-Cola with ice and straw in a cup for my consumption and which for I will pay one dollar and seven cents".

OMG, DH and I used to work with someone exactly like this at our first job.  His name isn't Jim K. by any chance?
  • I'm still sore from the  hike.  I just had to break down and put on come Ben-Gay.   The smell is freaking out the dogs (and myself).

    Sucks to be old.

  • Follow up: Then I have a really great class and they are excited to discuss Supreme Court decision making and I like my job again. I'm so conflicted.

Now I'm really sad that there are at least two people like that in the world.
  • At the meet-and-greet lunch with the CEO, everyone introduced themselves. Except me. She skipped me. Like, I was standing up, ready to say, "Hi, I'm Atomic Blonde," and she just swooped in and moved the meeting along.

A couple folks apologized for not interrupting her and giving me a chance, but I was struck and felt more than a little slighted. Maybe I'm reading too much into it?  Then she gave this whole speech about WISE and WIE and getting young scientists and engineers interested, and I was even more indignant.

I was directly in her line of sight, too.

    Harumph!

Well that's ridiculous. I'd probably have the same reaction you did.
  • It has not been a good day.  The day started with my having to take a few hours off of work to go sign a lease with my tenant (again) at the local Section 8 (housing assistance) office.  They forced us to sign a new lease showing the start date as 8/15/16...even though she really moved in on 8/1/16.  So I basically got screwed out of two weeks of rent.  Which was already after I had agreed to take $95/month less than what the tenant and I had already agreed to.

I have one other unit with a Section 8 tenant and that has been awesome.  But this unit?  Not so much.  I've been very unhappy with how Section 8 has handled things.  Though the tenant, so far, has been great.

But onto the really scary part of my day.  I finally get to work.  Was planning to work through lunch to make up some of the time but, a couple hours later, ran across the street to Wendy's for some sustenance.

I'm walking back across the street to my office and almost got creamed by a car who totally blew through a red light.  I'm guessing going around 35mph.  Luckily, I saw the car seconds before I would have been hit and stopped walking, but didn't even have time to back up.  The wind from the car as it passed me, inches away, literally blew and ruffled my skirt just a tad.  That is how close it was.  PHEW, there but for the grace of God.  I'm still freaking out a little on the inside, but am trying to calm back down.

  • I'm so glad you're OK, @short+sassy!
  • Ooooh @AtomicBlonde, that would annoy me so much.

I just dropped our invitations in the mail, I guess we are getting married in October, lol. But seriously, FH spoke with someone this morning who said it will be fine. So Yay!!

I am going to chicago tomorrow for a couple days. I am looking forward to seeing some old friends, eating deep dish pizza, and going to a cubs game.

I am talking with the owner of the barn I ride about coming in the morning to help in exchange for lessons and/or minor money. So that could be sweet.
  • @AtomicBlonde  That's rude! I would have same feelings :\

    @short+sassy  jeez! Glad you're okay!!

I'm having some FWP right now. With new place we have a mudroom and I need to find a bench for there to sit while putting boots/shoes on. I really like this one but I don't want to pay $110 for it :(

Hoping it'll go on sale within the next month or so! I like the drawers also, for hats/mitts/etc

I would have went up to her during a break and introduced myself.

Today is boring and I want wine.  The end.

  • What day in October, @missJeanLouise?
    22nd
  • Happy Tuesday!

I had a ton of work this morning. One of my bosses just let me know he was leaving early Thursday and would be out of town all weekend. So I needed to get everything that required a signature finished.

I have lots of pinterest projects I want to do and most of them involve organizing the girls' rooms.

Tonight we are picking up a bed from our friends for DD2. They are getting a bigger bed for their spare room and want it gone. She is so excited.
  • I feel like i have a mental block today - so just trying to make it until 4.

I am looking into more ideas for 2017 trips - I want to do Iceland in March and Australia/Tasmania in October-ish, so trying to get more ideas and potential itineraries.

Check out WOW airlines.  They have $99 flights (I think each way) from Boston to Iceland.  I think they also fly out of D.C. for pretty cheap.

I've never flown them, but the major caveats I've heard is only a few of the seats are the $99 special on each flight.  And they are a serious "nickel and dimer" airline.  All beverages are extra, not just alcohol.  Aisle/window seats cost extra.  That kind of thing.

Still, though, if I were going to Iceland, I'd look at their fares.
