Abazias, legit?

So I can't help but look at rings online, and I came across Abazias.com.  I noticed how much lower in price their diamonds are.  I guess my question is, have any of you or your FI purchased a ring or diamond from this site and are they legit?  If so, there are some major deals going on.

Re: Abazias, legit?

  • I don't know about the site but I would never suggest purchasing a diamond without being able to see it and inspect it in person before purchasing.  A diamond is a big purchase.

  • Apparently the deal with Abazias is you have whichever  diamond you are interested in, sent to your local examiner or whoever.  You then look at it, have it examined and either buy it then, or send it have it sent back.  the only you pay is the shipping fee.  Or if you live locally, you can view them in person.

I was just wary of how low the prices are.. Anybody have experience whith this site?

  • Huh, that's interesting.  Have you looked on the BBB?

  • If they are a lot lower than normal, I wouldn't recommend ordering from them.  You get what you pay for and a diamond isn't something I would want to be unsure about.

  • My thing is if you have any doubts whatsoever, don't do it.
  • You should ask the people on the PriceScope forums. They're really helpful with stuff like this. PriceScope also has that diamond search too, where you can search a bunch of sites at once. Plus a lot of the vendors give an extra discount for using PriceScope.
  • I have no idea about this site, but maybe they are manmade diamonds rather than naturally grown diamonds. They are still technically real diamonds (same chemical composition but carbon is compressed in high pressure machines rather than over a MUCH MUCH longer time in nature), but they are not worth as much as natural diamonds (which is why small imperfections are now actually a good thing because it proves the stone is natural). I would definitely look into it more though.
  • A buddy of mine recently orderded his GF's, I guess now FI's, ring online although it was probably a different site because he didn't see the diamond ahead of time. I just recommend being careful about it. He got the ring and it was not horribly impressive. The idea was nice but it just seemed kind of cheaply made, and the diamond lacked a certain sparkle. Granted I think he only payed around $8-900 for it.

I think it would just be tough for me to buy a ring without actually getting to see it, or something similiar.

  • I would recommend JamesAllen.com. My FI bought my ring from there and they have an actual picture of the diamond and you can inspect it with a loupe on the website. Very cool. I was hesitant about him buying a diamond online at first.. but my diamond is beautiful.

Yes, Abazias is legit. And they are one of the recommended diamond venders on PriceScope. (See full list of recommended dealers here: http://www.pricescope.com/dealers )

They sell real diamonds, not lab-created stone.

The markup on jewelry/diamonds is HUGE. Brick and motar stores have more overhead, so they charge even more.

I personally will never buy a a diamond in a traditional jewelry store again. I got my center stone from GoodOldGold, and got far more information and better idea at the sparkle by looking at it online. I paid $1500 and it appraises at over $2500.

Here's my diamond ( http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7201/ ), you can see a lot more information about the quality of the cut and sparkle by their ASET, DiamX, and microscopic images than you'd ever be able to tell as a customer in a jewelry store.
