Re: Tuesday

  • Mattress shopping is the worst. Even if you know what you want you always end up doubting yourself a little. "What if we buy this and get it home and it's firmer than we thought? What if it's too soft? What if we hate it?" SO kind of impulse bought our mattress so we're lucky it worked out.

Today I'm picking up the house and going to the gym with SO's sister. I'm going to try to study a little bit if possible too. I got the official offer letter for the ICU late yesterday afternoon which was a relief. HR told me they were going to send it Friday morning and I was wondering if they were going to rescind it and put me back on med surg. So now I just have to wait for the background check before I can proceed with the physical and drug test. I don't know why, because I've lead a boring life, but the BG check is making me nervous. I just want it to be done already.

I made copy cat Macaroni Grill bread last night, which, if anyone goes there...it's the best part of the restaurant. I'd say the bread was about 80% there to the original. It was great as it's own stand alone thing too and I'll definitely make it again. It's pretty easy too, which is always a plus. Next stop, trying to replicate Panera Mac n Cheese.

  • @atomicblonde, we have a beautyrest plush pillowtop and we absolutely L O V E it. Best bed ever.  I am a fan of beautyrest though.  When we go on vacation we're excited for the adventures but HATE sleeping in hotel beds.

@short+sassy, also don't call tech support during lunch hour.  Which is usually when I do since they're 2 hours behind me.

@drillsergeantcat, bummer about the job but I think you're right on not paying their emoployees what they're worth.

Also, this post reminded me it's only Tuesday.  Only!?!? Why are weeks getting longer and weekends shorter?

  • @DrillSergeantCat - that sucks re: low salary, but glad you found out early enough to not waste additional time. DK was in that position last year, except he was already employed, so his minimum was pretty set in stone. He was very up front with recruiter and the HR rep about minimum because he wasn't leaving his job without sufficient incentive. They offered him $10K below his minimum, and given the difference in benefits, it probably would have been a complete wash or even worse than the existing compensation package. Unfortunately, he did something like 3 phone interviews and an in-person, so it was a huge waste of time. Interestingly, it's been almost a year and they never did fill that job - recruiter contacted him again recently asking what it would take to consider.

I made the EXACT same comment to DH on Sunday.

  • I'm here to vent and run today.

So I work for my BFF's catering company on the side in addition to the 50 ish hours I work for my reg job.  Catering job gives me the extra money to do the fun stuff in life, like our recent trip to Denver.  Poor BFF is probably working 60-80 hours a week right now because it's their busy season and they're still fairly new so she's still trying to develop a staff.  H is in his busy season and has been working 6a-5/7pm every day.

Insert friend 2 who has been waiting for months for catering season to pick back up for shifts, complains she needs more money and says things like "I wish I could travel/shop/eat out more."  What do you think she said about working 2 days this week?  "I just got bumped up to 40 hours and am not used to working so much so I'm too tired to pick up shifts."

Then she tried to small talk me and ask to hang out next weekend.  Can't I'm working.

I thought to same thing and I've had a few long weekends lately ... yet does not help.
Mind you ... these long weekends have been quite busy, so that may be why.

Yes!  Funny how that happens when companies are so lowball for the experience/education they want.

@kimmiinthemitten, oh, but you totally misunderstood your friend.  She WANTS extra money, but only gives lip service to wanting to work for extra money.  Been there, done that, with a few of my friends.

I handed a great p/t job on a silver platter to a former coworker/friend who was always freaking out about money and wanting to get a p/t job.  It was near her house.  It was very flexible and paid great.  Super easy.  She was interested enough that she wanted my scheduler to contact her.  And then she ignored his e-mails because she kept "forgetting to reply back".  Mmmmkkaayyy.  Thanks for making me look like an idiot for referring you.  I'm still flabbergasted she blew it off.  It was an extra $400-$500/month for a few hours of work a week, which would have been a game changer for her budget.  But, whatever.

I also sent her, again with her permission, a link to a mystery shopping company I was working for.  They had  a bunch of quick, easy shops that paid $24/each...except you had to be between the ages of 21-24 (cigarette or alcohol compliance).  Like 5 minutes for the shop and 5 minutes to enter the report.  I was too old...or I would have scooped them ALL up...but she wasn't.  Nope, never bothered signing up with the company.

Like the old adage, you can lead a horse to water...but you can't make it drink.

If I weren't working, I'd have jumped on it. However, I have a very easy job that affords me the luxury of knotting and crocheting a lot of the time so I need at least $500 more a month to make it worth my while.

I was asked for something asap and I screwed up.  I apologized and I admit to it.  As soon as I sent the wrong document out, I corrected it and sent "sorry, here it is with _____"

but my salesperson sent it out to fast (without looking at what she was sending mind you) which caused confusion on the other end.

It really shouldn't stop the deal from happening since we verbally told them what it was AND sent out the contracts that were fine - but if the deal goes down, she's the type of person to throw me under the bus.

Can this day be over? I may need wine.

    And what a bitch ...
  • and now I found out I left something else off the stupid sheet that isn't even required.  But it was communicated in email, so I didn't think I needed to add it...since it was..uh, communicated in email.

Seriously. This day has GOT to end!

Argh!  I previously worked in a toxic office with TWO people like that.  One of them had asked me to scan something and, somehow, the last section was missing.  This was really nbd and easily fixed.  Our offices were on the same floor a short distance away.  Instead of just calling me or stopping by to say, "oh, hey, this section got missed, could you run it again."  She called the manager of my dept., two floors down, to talk to me about this mistake.  WTF?!?!   And it wasn't like this was a pattern of behavior.  I did work for her all the time that was much more complicated and just fine.

The other person was actively out to get me!  It was unreal.  We basically had the same job and she would claim she was "too busy" and ask if I would pick up some of her work.  She would then do stuff like tell me she needed it at 3PM, but tell our manager at 2:05 that she'd asked for it by 2 and I still wasn't done with it.  And I was "ignoring her e-mails".  The one she hit "send" on right before she walked down to the boss' office.

When I sometimes get too bored at my current job, which has awesome coworkers.  Think the grass (and paycheck) might be greener elsewhere, I remind myself of the horrors that can be out there.
