Re: Royal Wedding!

  • Me too!  Kate and Will got married when I was on maternity leave.  I got to watch all of it.  I'm sure Harry's wedding will be live-streamed.  ;)  Meghan's going to be such a gorgeous bride.
  • Do royal weddings happen that quick, or is it just me? They're getting married in the spring
  • So sweet.

I like Megan much better than Kate.  I actually really dislike Kate.

I think a lot of couples wait so long to get married because of costs.   The Royals do not have to worry about saving up for a wedding, so as long as they can get the vendors they can get married anytime.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Have you met her?

I bet plans have been in the works for at least a few months.  Also, I'm sure that there are plenty of people/vendors that would drop any other project like a hot potato to do a Royal Wedding.  I mean, the royals have never had to wait in line for anything in their life.  (which makes me appreciate the fact that William and Harry seem like grounded, humble men all the more)
    100% that is Diana's doing :)

I'm curious too. Kate seems like a very lovely human, like Megan.

I was having a late-nighter at a local casino the "night" before Kate and Will got married.  I'm finally done.  Go out to the valet area.  Where there are a few tvs that are always on.

I notice what they are showing is Kate getting into the car to head over to wherever she is getting dressed.

I was like, "Dang!  I HAVE been here a long time and it is LATE, lol."

    Why don't you like her?
For almost ten years she didn't nothing except be a William's beck-and-call waiting for the ring.   No real job (supposedly worked a little for her parents), no charity work.  Just sitting around waiting for William to propose.

She and William are pretty lazy also.   He is a future king and his 90-year-old grandparents do way more engagements than they do.

She is also kind-of boring.  She looks pretty, but there doesn't seem like there is any substance to her.

I'm a closet Royal watcher and am on a Royal message board.  I'm a dork.

Compared to the Queen, Kate or William just go through the motions.

Meghan is successfully in her own right.  Not A-list Hollywood success, but still successfully and independent. Does lots of charity work on her own.  Not like Kate who does a few she does in order to justify her title.   Meghan just naturally has a charismatic glow to her.  Kate always looks bored.

The board I'm on isn't thrilled with Meghan either, but I'm do not agree.

That said, I don't think the British Royal family is going to officially be around much longer. I would be surprised if William actually becomes king.  He doesn't seem like he wants the job anyway.   Even Harry himself said no one wants the job.

I am shocked at the judgements I have just read here.  It is no fun being a royal.  They have very few choices in their lives.  Most of their life is predetermined from the moment of their birth.  Marrying into the royal family is very difficult, and life will be in a fishbowl forever.  Happy marriages are not the norm for royals.

The Royal Family has served the UK with a lifetime of sacrificing their own wishes for duty and the good of the country.   You have no right to judge.  You cannot imagine what their life is like.  Shame!

  • For others who enjoy royal-watching, there's a fiction book called The Royal We by the women who wrote The Fug Girls for NYMag. It's fiction but so obviously based on Will and Kate, and it's an entertaining read. I've actually re-read it about 3 times, haha.

I disagree about how active Will and Kate are... I follow Kensington Palace on Instagram and they're always doing appearances. Coupled with the fact that they have small children, her pregnancies were rough, and there's a third on the way, I hope they're balancing work with raising their family. To me, it would be refreshing to see them spend more time with the kids so they're not completely raised by nannies.
Yup. The Queen is the Queen and while she is old, she also isn't raising small children. I too follow them on IG and I think that their appearances are plenty adequate.

I mean, I know the whole tabloid nickname of "Waity Katie" and all, but I don't really think she was continuing to date him just for the terrible fun that is being in the royal family. Maybe she could have had a "real job" in that time, but if she didn't need one to support herself, then I don't really think I care that much to judge someone's personality or "initiative" based on a whole lot of things I don't actually know about them.
  • I also think Kate was in a difficult spot re:working before her engagement. She was already involved with Will and had to be careful not to trade on her royal connections. And she did hold down a job for a while. I feel bad for her that she didn’t have the opportunity to do more.
  • Full disclosure: I do not follow the royals at all. I see photos and headlines in the grocery store checkout line and that's the extent of how much I know (and care). From that, I do happen to know Kate and I have very similar due dates.

Anyway, I'm excited about this for two reasons: 1) the photos - two beautiful people having an extravagant wedding = fab photos, so yay! and 2) a royal marrying an independently successful, biracial, American woman and (at least the statements from) the royal family being happy about it.

But serious question, does this take Harry out of line for being the king?

It does not.  But he moves to 5th or 6th in succession once the new royal baby is born.

She may not be able to hold a title as soon as they get married since she's not a British citizen.  I guess there's rules about this and it supposedly takes 5 years to become a citizen, but I also hear that can be circumvented/sped up.

I get eye-rolly that people keep saying she's 'retiring' from acting.  She left her show and may never take another acting job, but that's not retiring.  Plenty of people stop working due to a change in circumstances and that's not called retirement.

Their kids will supposedly be dual citizens and that makes this highly amusing.

Lol at that tweet! :) Brits realized they need to take their problem child back and fix it ;) it's okay, technically Canada is still under British ruling and it's not that bad. They barely step in on anything and we get visits often.

I read it too and LOVED it. Such a great beach read.

I am super excited for another royal wedding. I also don't understand how people can dislike Kate. She's raising two little kids and is pregnant again. How many appearances is she supposed to do??

if they were Duggers that would be a super long engagement LOL
.... and they would have their first kiss on their wedding day.

But not in front of people
  • My favorite part is the totally unsubstantiated probably false rumor that Michelle Obama is the unnamed friend who set them up.
  • The Royal Family just said a) the wedding is in May and b) Markle will become a citizen after.
  • Oh it’s going to be in Windsor! How lovely!!
  • That tweet is hilarious

Weird, fun fact about dual citizenship and the U.S.  It actually isn't allowed here.  I think the U.S. is one of the few countries that doesn't allow dual citizenship, though that is more an impression I have.

With that said, it's not something the U. S. aggressively goes after.  Or, I should say, goes after at all.

Unless a person wants to become an officer in the military.  In that case, they do have to officially denounce any other citizenships they could claim.

One would think that would be the same to take the oath of office for POTUS.  But, then again, I wouldn't necessarily bet money on it, lol.

It doesn't make this awesome tweet any less funny.  However, British plans to finally take America back might be foiled again!

This is not true. The US allows dual citizenship. Many of us have it.
  • dual citizenship is a gray area.  per this page:

The United States does not formally recognize dual citizenship. However, it also has not taken any stand against it, either legally or politically.

    http://immigration.findlaw.com/citizenship/dual-citizenship.html

When we got sworn in, we were told that the US does not recognize us as dual, but Canada does. It really hasn't affected me either way....
