Friday Night Welcome Party Bar

Does anyone has suggestions on a welcome bar for all out-of-towners to meet for a few cocktails after the rehearsal dinner, ideally somewhere within walking distance of the Quarter? About 50 people. Looking for places where people can start their own tabs versus renting out a venue.

Re: Friday Night Welcome Party Bar

  • TBH, 50 people is a pretty large group to descend on a bar.  Most of the FQ bars can barely hold that many people anyway.  I'd shoot more for the bar/lobby area of one of the large hotels.  Though they tend to be more on the mellow side and a place to hang out and chat, as opposed to party.  It's been a long time since I was there, but I remember the Westin having a great area on (I think) the 12 floor.  Amazing views of the city and MS River.  The same floor as the front desk.

The Sheraton and JW Marriott both have good sized bar areas.  They are both on Canal St.  Harrah's casino, at the foot of Canal St., has a big bar area in the middle of it.  I think it's called Masquerade.  It's typically turned into a dance club Thurs.-Sat. nights.

Frenchmen St. is another area known for bars and night life.  Mainly on the street with literally that name, toward the River end.  It's also bigger places than what you'll find in the FQ.  Technically, it isn't in the FQ, but it's a short walk.  Esplanade Ave. is the boundary between that side of the FQ and the Frenchmen St. area.
