I'm surprisingly not affected by DST although I still miss the days when IN didn't participate. I did enjoy going for a walk after dinner last night while it was still light out. But I was sad it is once again dark in the morning.

Today is day 11 of low carb-ish eating. I say ish because I haven't been super strict although still way better than it was previously. Most surprising is I don't even miss the snacks I used to have, especially during the work day. I refuse to give up diet coke/diet mt dew though. I always wondered if it contributed to sugar cravings since I've read about it but that doesn't seem to be the case now. My H is finally getting on board with this too but he's being a butthead trying to say I can't have them and I'm like look dude I've done my research and I feel comfortable with still having them even though I'm trying to do low carb. Let me have one little indulgence left
Im just trying to do less carb, not real low carb. Are Girl Scout cookies a carb?
    On cheat day they’re not.

HA! I just got my GS cookies today, and I'm trying not to tear them open.

Yeeaahhh.  I'm with you.  I have always majorly side-eyed this advice.  Maybe it's true for some people, but it definitely isn't for me.  I rarely eat anything high in sugar because of my medical condition and don't even like or crave most sweets.  And that is true whether I drink diet drinks or not.  FFS, I already can't drink over 90% of the beverages out there.  Leave me something! lol.

I used to share an office with a former coworker who needed to STFU about my drink choices.  Don't get me wrong, for the most part we got along and I enjoyed sharing an office with him.  But he would occasionally make comments about the diet drinks, I drank.  And he even knew I had Type I diabetes!  Sorrynotsorry I don't want to be banished to a life of only water, iced tea, and iced coffee.  And then his typical lunch was a large smoothie, as if that was so healthy with it's 70+ grams of fructose, smh.

Isn't there a rule that if you don't finish all the cookies in one sitting that the calories don't count? lol.

Yes and I believe Thin Mints count as a vegetable (mint, duh).

The Samoa’s with that coconut are fruit!

@levioosa I’m sorry to hear about your father.  And also the hospital.  You must be so stressed...sending healing vibes.  Good luck @shess@ShesSoCold

For the first time ever Daylight Savings screwed with my schedule! I’d forgotten to adjust our bedroom clock before going to sleep Saturday and I always leave my phone in my room (where it charges) for the first couple hours I’m awake on weekends so I didn’t check it Sunday morning.  When the kids and I got to the living room the cable box said 7:01 (I make them wait until 6 to leave the bedrooms even though they’re up at freaking 5:08am) and I didn’t think “wait, why doesn’t it say 6:01?” bc it’s been a little screwy lately.  So I went about my morning following the kitchen clock (which I also forgot to adjust) and when it said 7:35 I put on the kids’ coats and shoes to leave for church (I take them to an 8:00 mass).  I ran into my room to grab my phone and it said 8:35...it then it me like a bolt!!   I couldn’t believe it lol.  There are Catholic Churches everywhere by me so we went to an 8:45mass at a parish I’m not crazy about (too conservative) but it was the time that ended up working for us.  But I couldn’t believe I let that happen.
Other than that the weekend was a perfect mix of productive/fun.
  • I love all of the GS cookie justification! Tagalongs and DoSiDo have peanut butter = protein. Those lemon ones are a fruit too!

Oh boy. Mold removal is mighty expensive. But it will be worth it not to have constant respiratory problems anymore.

  • Ugh, I'm sorry you have to deal with that, DW. Sounds awful but necessary!

A couple weeks ago Dunkin messed up my coffee order and gave me cream and sugar instead of skim and splenda. The cashier goes, "Do you want me to remake it, or refund you since calories don't count if you didn't pay for it?" I laughed and asked if she could get documented confirmation from my ass that the cream wouldn't end up there.

I didn't get any GS cookies. We can't be trusted. H will eat the whole Tagalong box while I eat Trefoils and Do-Si-Does by the sleeve. My ass would DEFINITELY know what my mouth was doing.

Ya’ll are dealing with the 1 hr time difference?  Try the 8 I have! :)  we landed at 7:30 last night, but took 1.5 hrs to go through customs!  (Well deplane and customs).  My friend has global entry.  I need that. at any rate - jet lag will hit me I’m sure, but it’s almost 2:30 and no sign yet.  If anyone hasn’t been to vienna or Prague.  Go.  Go now.  Amazing time.  Had a blast.  We walked EVERYwhere and if I ate salads and drank just water I probably would have lost 10 lbs. instead of the .2 lbs.  but I’ll take it because I ate/drank and didn’t give a care.

@levioosa, so sorry about your Dad. FX he’s recovering well
@ShesSoCold, good luck with the listing.  Yeah how nerve-racking is it that you have to time everything so perfectly WITHOUT a crystal ball?
@STARMOON44, why would anyone even think GSC’s would be in the “carb” category?  Speaking of which, H bought like 2 or 3 boxes of each kind and they were gone in a few days.  His reasoning:  has to support the youth!

  • Oh boy. Mold removal is mighty expensive. But it will be worth it not to have constant respiratory problems anymore.

Some helpful hints (and I could be repeating things you already know).  Mold is all around us, including in the air.  Much of it is harmless, some of it is varying degrees of harmful.  The main goal is to not have harmful mold in one's home nor to have higher mold levels in the home than outside the home.  I only like to say that because there is a myth that "all mold is harmful" and "no mold should be in a house".  The first isn't true and the second is impossible.

With that said, mold problems certainly can exist and it sounds like you might be having a reaction to the mold in your home.  Mold typically becomes a problem in a home when there is water intrusion somewhere.  So, if you haven't already, get the cause fixed before mold remediation.

If mold is surface only, it can often easily be cleaned with masks, gloves, and bleach.  Just Google property safety precautions to take.

Someone on my real estate investing forum (Bigger Pockets) was just talking about a lesser known way to remediate mold, using some kind of a vapor substance.  Supposedly it is about a third less than traditional mold remediation and does a better job.  But frick if I can't find the thread now!  Even though I know I read it within the last month.  Their search engine is not the best (sigh).

I had a mold problem in one of my rentals but, thankfully (sort of, lol), it was isolated to one part of a wall (under a window).  We were able to just replace the drywall for that one small portion of the wall because it had not spread.  But to fix the main problem?  Now THAT turned into a huge undertaking, ugh.  It went from "we need to replace the exterior siding for that wall" to "f**k it, we might as well replace all the siding for that side of the house", lol.  It needed to be done at some point in the near future anyway.  We had just hoped it could have been put off for a couple years.

  • @mrsmitten, good to see you back!  I thought about you a few days ago and was wondering how things were going.

I'm glad your work has gotten back to a good place.  Good luck with your application for the p/t job!

I imagine that would be weird to suddenly have a bit of fame!  The best I can suggest is for him to have a few elevator speeches in his back pocket for typical things people say to him.  And getting comfortable with phrases that are friendly and polite, but close the conversation.

  • Over a month ago, I sent an email to my producer telling him that if he needed X from Company, we needed to send them Y first. He never responded to that email, my follow-up or the voicemail Company left him.

Actual footage of me sitting at my desk today reading an email from him to Company, asking desperately for X ASAP because now we're late. And completely ignoring Y.

  • Sending healing vibes for your H, @ShesSoCold and for your dad, @levioosa!

    Good to see you, @mrsmitten!

Saturday morning we got the taxes done and found out I should file as “married filing separately.” I’m getting a small refund from both the IRS and the state of Ohio. I’m going to use some of it to get my passport so we can investigate moving to Canada if the stuff hits the fan here more than it already has. Afterwards, I got some stuff done around the house and took Mutt for a couple walks.

Yesterday we slept until 1:00! Even Mutt didn’t wake us up. The most productive thing I did was finish The Hobbit. I also finished The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Marie Kondo is a genius, but I have no idea 1) when I’m going to get uninterrupted time to tackle the whole house 2) how I’m going to get DW on board.

Today was the usual Monday nonsense. My favorite attorney transferred to another unit, so that’s a bummer. But we’ve got two new ones, and they’re not fresh out of law school, so they might stick around.

Except for finishing some soup that has egg noodles and the last piece of my birthday cake, I’ve been mostly vegan since Wednesday, and it’s going really well. I was worried that I’d be hungry all the time, but I’m finding out that as long as I have protein at every meal, I’m good. DW is mostly being supportive but keeps offering me Tagalongs (which are not vegan and I don’t even particularly care for). If I get my hands on some Thin Mints, however, that might blow up my healthy eating plan . . .

Tonight I’ve been trying to do Meetup and peace group stuff, but my laptop is being an assbutt, so I’m taking a break.
