Wedding Woes

Thursday

I'm so glad to be looking at the end of the week.  I think I'm just burnt out on adulting.  I know that sounds snarky, but honestly, I'm just am tired of working, budgeting, meal planning, all of it.  I'm getting my vacation built back up and somehow I'm taking one in the next year.  K's "after school" stuff is kind of messed up right now, but if I go by myself or with a friend, so be it.  Not really, b/c that would really suck, but I haven't had an actual vacation in a very long time and I need one.

I scheduled a float today.  The one where you go into the pod and float in salt water.  I've always wanted to do one, but would never spend the money on something that seemed so frivolous.  K's mom got me a GC for it for Xmas.  The business just announced they were closing down all gift cards from 2018 at the end of this month, so it finally spurred me to do it.

I'm seeing either Malificent or Zombieland 2 tonight.  I'm so excited for either one of them, just waiting to see what K's schedule is.  Other than that, SSDD.

Re: Thursday

  • Today is my Friday.  We are going to visit friends for the weekend so looking forward to that.

    Otherwise SSDD.

  • @VarunaTT I feel you. All the normal adulting stuff is exhausting.
    Let us know how the float goes! I'm a bit claustrophobic so idk if I could. The concept has always been interesting to me though and apparently you can hallucinate?
  • So I was around yesterday but really wasn't in the mood to post.

    Remember how I mentioned M's company got acquired?
    Guess who has until Feb 28th, 2020 to find a new job ...

    Yup.
    At least we have time, and M is seeing the recruiter who helped him find a job before at lunch.
    They lost 4 devs, 1 QA and 2 customer support - none of which they can afford to lose
  • @VarunaTT - adulting is brutal.  I love floating in pools and such, not sure I could do it in the pod.  Let us know how it is.
    @MissKittyDanger - so sorry to hear your H's job is going away.  Good vibes for finding a new and better position!

    The 'adulting' burn out is real.  I get super tired of it all the time.

    It's also my Friday.  DH and I both took a long weekend.  DH and I are going to clean out closets and the garage this weekend.  I need to do a clothing purge for DefConn because I know there's stuff that is on the verge of not fitting him.  Thankfully, we are in for some beautiful weather this weekend.

    I did my swap of warm weather clothes to cold weather clothes yesterday.  I'm excited that I have different stuff to wear now.  I was getting tired of  the same old, same old.  ;)

    My work week next week is wonky again since DefConn will still be on fall break and I have appts for myself and have to go help out my mom in getting her to an appt.

    Yay Prudie Day.
  • @VarunaTT, I have to know if you like that. Never heard of those before!
    @MissKittyDanger. So sorry about the job.  But hopefully he’ll have no gap between jobs.  Whats your job market like?

    next Thursday is my Friday and I have so much to do with my halloween costumes before that.  Plus I need to get a new phone before the trip and I have some pre vacation appts fo get in!  Ugh.  I had months to do this and now only a week fo get it done

  • Boo on the layoff date @MissKittyDanger.  At least M has a few months, but it's stressful to think about and try to plan for (especially for the worst).  Here's hoping for the best for M!!
  • @MNNEBride Recruiter already has something in mind, so hopeful!!

    @CharmedPam For M - pretty good. Many places are hiring. He's a software developer, so it's more the matter of figuring out what he's qualified for. He's more intermediate, so that specific part isn't easy to find. {most places say Junior or Senior} But we discovered recently that some Junior levels are just labelled wrong with experience timing. That opens up more also.
  • That sucks @MissKittyDanger; it’s good he has some time but it still sucks.

    My life is pretty much work, work, trying to have a baby, and more work.
  • @mrsconn23 He got a windfall from the former owners that we're now not touching until we need it. To be fair, I don't see it being needed, but the stress just kills me. This company is stupid a.f
  • @charlotte989875 Yup. And at least you have some TTC fun in the midst of the crazy work ;)
  • @charlotte989875 Yup. And at least you have some TTC fun in the midst of the crazy work ;)
    It’s what is keeping me going these days.
  • @VarunaTT, apparently there is a pod place in my city also.  I first heard about it through a Groupon offer, of all things, lol.  I was tempted when I saw the Groupon, but wasn't convinced it was going to be worth even the discounted cost.  So I'm also curious to hear what you think!

    @MissKittyDanger, good luck to M!  I know it's stressful to have the "status quo" ending.  But it is amazing the company has at least been honest with everyone and given them a good bit of time to find other work.  I hope this is a blessing in disguise for you all and he finds an even better job.

    My workplace tricked me again about the weather.  Apparently when I was side-eying yesterday that NOLA highs were still in the 80s for the rest of Oct.  I was not looking at NOLA, I was looking at Phoenix, AZ, lol.  Our web traffic goes through servers in that city.  Usually weather.com remembers that I'm always looking at NOLA weather.  But, every once in awhile, it flips and they go back to showing me Phoenix.  Usually I catch it because it's, "Wait.  Wuuuttt?" and I'll double check the city.  But it wasn't outlandish enough yesterday for me to catch it, lol.

    So, all in all, at least it is a relief!  We have a couple days in the low 80s, but most are going to be just perfect.  Hanging out with highs in the mid-70s.  Early this morning it was in the mid-60s.  And my H who...in a city where most people are big babies when it comes to cold (including myself)...he goes even further.  He is already wearing one of those thick, beanie caps, lmao.

    I'll be out of the office tomorrow for my doctor's appointment.  So, I guess this is my Friday (shrug).  But not for a fun reason.  Other than being able to sleep in some, I'd rather be at work tomorrow, lol.

  • @short+sassy  Weather shenanigans!!!
    As much as, yes it's good they're giving plenty of time - the honesty part is debatable. Basically M was told his position isn't necessary - which is Corporate Overlord speak of "you're redundant" Which M is PISSED about because he has a hefty job that he's now the specialist for because he was the ONLY person doing it. This company is shooting themselves in the foot essentially.
  • @VarunaTT. Total aside but I’ve gotten really into Drag Race a decade behind the times and always think of you and K when I watch :)
  • Holy wind Batman!

    The ran came in yesterday and the wind came in this AM.   FIL took a photo down at the boardwalk in town and LI Sound is throwing at least 3 footers.   To give an idea of the norm, Monday the waves were.....6 inches?

    We are lucky that we have power, no trees down and our street isn't flooded.   Other streets have more issues and some towns even cancelled school today.

    Work is interesting this week and I know I'm bracing for some tricky conversations with clients so that's going to be FUN.

  • The wind is crazy here too. And damn, did it pour all night. It took me a full 90 minutes to get home. Most of my drive was in a downpour.

    My friends and I are planning a little getaway upstate for next month. Super excited. The place we rented even has a hot tub.

    Other than that, SSDD.

    Glad you're safe!

    Oh dear, what kind of tricky convos {obv no details if you can't}
  • Varuna - I have friends who have floated in the pods, they really liked it.  They also did one as a couple for their anniversary in total darkness.  She said the first time they bumped into each other, she freaked cause she forgot her H was in their with her.  I hope you enjoy!

    MKD - Sorry about M's job, but at least you got a long notice, a windfall from the previous owner and leads for a new job already!

    The week is flying by for me this week!  Which is awesome, because I only have a few weeks left until vacation and time usually slows down!  Last night, I went out to make my welcome front porch sign at the workshop.  I was the only one who signed up, so I had the whole place to myself and two ladies to help me!  One of them ombre'd the pineapple on my sign amazingly!  I wish I could attach photos - stupid TK - this one is my favorite so far!  I even finished super quick and was home by 9 PM!  Usually I'm out closer to 10 PM!

    @VarunaTT. Total aside but I’ve gotten really into Drag Race a decade behind the times and always think of you and K when I watch :)
    We stopped watching about Season 9, when my very Very VERY favorite queen ever won (no spoilers), but I am always down to chat about it because I do love that I learned so much about so many queens that I never would've had a chance to see.  That show is how I really discovered some of my favorites.  ETA:  I still have feels about Season 2 winner and Season 5 is some of the best drag I've ever seen.

    Also, watch Season 3 of Dragula on Amazon Prime if you can.  It's rougher than RPDR, but it has the first king, first non-binary, and first AFAB drag performers on their show.  Far more representative of the drag community as a whole.  Landon Cider (drag king) is all.the.things and I hope he wins, just b/c he can thumb his nose at RuPaul, who rejected him repeatedly b/c, "Drag loses its sense of danger and its sense of irony once it’s not men doing it, because at its core it’s a social statement and a big F-you to male-dominated culture. So for men to do it, it’s really punk rock, because it’s a real rejection of masculinity."  Like hey, hi, hello, this vagina owner fucking lives every day saying fuck you to male-dominated culture and I don't get paid for it.  It's so unfortunate that someone who broke down so many barriers of queer culture has become such a gatekeeper, but RuPaul has become incredibly disappointing to me.
  • Side note, I ordered from Colour Pop yesterday. {this was before I knew and M convinced me not to cancel the order}

    I got:
    "Moon Child" lipgloss {nude}
    "Snowfleek" matte liquid lip {red}
    leopard and nude and pink rose nail set {like nail stickers .... I may get a new nail polish later to match these to extend the life}
    "the big detox" face mask
    "come clean" cleanser duo
    "holy smokes" set - palette with silver and black liners
    bellini BB -lip scrub and balm
  • @MissKittyDanger I’m sorry to hear about H’s job. I hope he finds something soon.

    @VarunaTT let us know how the pod float goes. I’ve always been intrigued. And a movie review. Both Maleficient and Zombieland are on my watch list but I’m not so sure how I feel about the new Maleficient. The last one was so good I’m afraid they’ll ruin it in the name of franchise.

    I’m working on getting the house ready for the Halloween party on Saturday. I actually slept 8 hours last night which is a rare occurrence, but I’m still pretty tired. I’m definitely burnt out on adulting and would love to just disappear into a shell on the beach somewhere for like a year.

    What are your thoughts on cisgender straight women doing female drag?

    What are your thoughts on cisgender straight women doing female drag?
    Drag is the art of gender expression.  Anyone can do drag and their genitals should absolutely, 100000% not matter in their art.  I have stopped using bio-queen, hyper-queen, femme queen, and diva, b/c a cisgender woman doing drag presenting a femme illusion is a drag queen, period.  Anyone doing drag as a femme illusion is a drag queen.  Anyone doing drag as a masculine illusion is a drag king (I've stopped using devo which is the most common name I've seen).  And anyone who falls into the in-betweens/not stereotypical of gender illusion are starting to use Mx or genderfuck performers.  Drag should not be so damn concerned about what is between your legs underneath tape, 14 pairs of tights, bodysuits, and/or spanx or your genetic code.  Drag is subversive and anyone doing drag is taking part in one form or another of subverting expectations of gender, no matter what their gender identity as a regular person is.

    *steps off of my soapbox that took a long evolution for me to get to because of my own experiences within the world of drag and personal growth in understanding gender*  Also, if you're interested in learning more, Wendy Ho, Kat Sass, Sigourney Beaver are amazing drag queens to follow that are ciswomen.  Drag queens to follow that are nonbinary are Sasha Velour, Naomi Smalls, and Aja.  Transwomen who are drag queens are Carmen Carrera and Monica Beverly Hillz.   Landon Cider is really the only drag king I know who engages in the political forum and is a ciswoman, but I'm sure there are more and I could find them.  And few good of the genderfuck are Maxi Glamour (nonbinary) and Hollows Eve (postbinary, ETA don't ask me what this one means, I have no idea).

    Now to get to your other part:  I do have an issue with heterosexuals doing drag.  Drag spaces are safe spaces for queer folx, and traditionally, when straight people start showing up and taking up space, our safe spaces becoming not so safe again (the easiest way to learn about this is to follow the history of queer neighborhoods in big cities).  I have been around a very few straight performers and they have been incredibly respectful of the space, their place in the community, and of drag (i.e. they weren't doing it as a Halloween or sorority joke) and so I kept my mouth shut.  I don't want to deny anyone access to being a performer; drag has been a home for generations of queer folx, young and old and that is to be protected foremost rather than a straight person who can perform literally anywhere they want in relative safety and even perform in drag in relative safety.

    ETA;  You can also call my a hypocrite here, b/c Wendy Ho IS a straight ciswoman who is a drag queen.  She is also one of those very few I've met and she is a huge ally.  She's pretty much my generation's Bette Midler.
  • Thanks @VarunaTT. I feel like my issue with heterosexuals doing drag is that is invades queer spaces. It feels wrong. Drag has been a safe space and now I’ve seen so many straight female “beauty bloggers” doing “drag.”

  • That's a little weird.  My doctor's office called around mid-morning to confirm my appointment tomorrow.  But then they called back a few hours later that the doctor isn't going to be in tomorrow and they need to reschedule the appointment.  I guess an emergency came up or the doctor isn't feeling well himself.

    I almost e-mailed my boss and then stopped myself.  Hmmmm.  I'm already not expected in tomorrow anyway.  I have plenty of sick/vacation time.  I think I'm going to let this slide ;).  Although I will probably have to work late to get everything for this week done.

    @short+sassy take the day girl! treat yo self
  • Ugh that stinks @MissKittyDanger

    Have to put in a service call for the fridge- the chicken I'd pulled from the freezer on Tuesday morning still isn't thawed.  Nothing else in the fridge seems frozen so I don't know what's going on.  And the kids school photos came home today.  Two mugshots and one half smile bordering on creepy.  Thankfully I don't splurge for the fancy packages  :D
