Wedding Woes

Not only Friday, Friday the 13th

Going to a Christmas themed haunted house tonight and looking forward to it.  Tomorrow I’m driving to the bro’s for family Christmas. Wrapping is the absolute worst so I wait last minute for it. I was up at 5 wrapping all the gifts (from my sister to them too).  They look UGLY as hell but they’re wrapped!

Re: Not only Friday, Friday the 13th

  • It’s almost the weekenddd. FI and I might go out tonight. Or maybe we’ll be too tired and we’ll stay home. Tomorrow we are doing cookies and Christmas movie night with FSIL and her FI. Sadly I don’t own an ugly Christmas sweater but I also don’t want to go spend the money on one. My dad might come over to help us work on the bathroom. I’m letting FI take care of that scheduling though.

Last night I spoke to my director. I brought up the sad desk situation and she told me I could have an office as soon as the other people moved out and I could share it in the meantime. So I’m happy about that and hoping it doesn’t fall through.

I hope everyone has a good weekend! A Christmas haunted house sounds fun @CharmedPam!

  • My friend's kid turns 13 today, on Friday the 13th. Some luck.

I'm so relieved that the weekend is here. Work has been so busy; it's exhausting. Tonight, I'm leaving work at 4:30 to take the pup to the park, and then book club a little later. It's freezing out today, so will probably come home from that and chill by the fire for a bit. If I can come up with something to get my dad and sister, I'll shop online for them.

The rest of the weekend is going to suck. We decided to buy a cheap car that we won't have to finance, and then wait until after we close on a new house to buy something better. So, we have to find and buy a cheap car. And then, painters are starting on Monday, so we have to take down and box up everything on the walls and move around all the furniture. I really hope the car thing doesn't take all day tomorrow, but I have a feeling it will. My company holiday party is Saturday, but I really don't see how we're going to have time to make it. I'm disappointed about that because they do it up as a big deal. It's on the field at the big stadium where the falcons play.
  • We have a busy weekend. We're going to a Christmas market tonight (went to on already this week). Tomorrow night we are going out to dinner then seeing A Christmas Carol at our theater downtown. I need to get some baking done this weekend - it is for gifts. I have a few things to wrap but H needs to be out of the house.
  • I woke up this morning thinking it was Thursday.  Usually i'd be excited that it's Friday but I'm starting to panic a bit about getting all my work tasks done/prepped for maternity leave and had a few last minute calls scheduled that I just don't want to do.  Just feels like i have a ton to get through today and no time to actually do it.  This day will fly because I feel a little frantic.  So, good and bad :)

Picking up a couple more gift cards/order pickups on the way home tonight.  Still need one more physical present for BIL/SIL and need SOMETHING for MIL/FIL.  Everyone else is done.

The babe is ~7.5 lbs already and I have 2.5 weeks to go (insert scared face).  Dr. wants to induce before I hit my due date if babe isn't here already.
  • OMG, this morning has been a flurry of trying to get orders done for Christmas.  I'm getting there.  I've made DH my errand boy because the items I wanted from Ulta are at the one by his warehouse and now I don't have to cut it close on shipping or pay for rush.  ;)

I think we're going downtown to see the lights tonight.  Tomorrow, I have a hair appt. After that, we're going to mom and dad's so DH can help dad install a new TV and we're having dinner.  Sunday will be early grocery shopping and then just relaxing.  I'll probably do a bunch of wrapping on Sunday and I have to get the room ready for BIL/SIL/nephews to come for Christmas.   I may try to squeeze in another round of cinnamon rolls.  We'll see.
  • Does anyone have some good "freezer meal" recipes they wouldn't mind sharing?  I'd love to get some breakfast and lunch/dinner options in the freezer this weekend that can be heated up easily or thrown in the crockpot.  I've got good recipes for lasagna and chili, but kind of blanking other than that.
  • YAY FLAGS FOR K!!!  And for you @VarunaTT!!  WAHOO!

Celebrate with some margaritas tonight!  :)
  • @CharmedPam First, I LOVE the idea of a Christmas themed haunted house. Can't wait to hear your review! Second, I love wrapping presents so much. I have thought of starting a pop up business during the holidays of wrapping people's presents for them, for money. 😉

@levioosa have you looked at Goodwill or other thrift stores for an ugly sweater? I bet they would have some awesome ones.

These next 10 days are going to be brutal, because of Christmas and running the club's winter camp. However, knowing I am done working indefinitely on the 31st is giving me all sorts of daydreams of what I will do with my free time. I seriously doubt I will have as much free time as I think I will but it is fun to think about.

Tomorrow DH and I are doing a Clue type game with our friends. It is supposed to be around the city, I have no idea how it is supposed to work. We are going to show up and find out, I suppose. Then I am going to leave him at home with the baby, hopefully to supervise nap time, while I run out to *finally* buy a tree. I also need stockings but I haven't seen any I love in the wild and I always think about it too late to order online (everything take forever to get here). I am excited to see what the baby thinks about the tree and lights and everything. ☺️

Saturday in December would be hard for a lot of people.  Some branches did a late lunch from 1-4 and our office agreed that we would have liked that better.  Ours was a Fri night dinner.  Still fantastic.

    have fun!

  • Oh I go almost every year @missJeanLouise - 2 years ago it was actually awesome and waiting IN line was just as entertaining.  We only paid $13.99 for them for a Friday the 13th deal.  We bought a ticket for H but he cant make it. Im hoping I can sell that cheap ticket to anyone planning to buy at the box office.

and my gifts are seriously awful.  I didn't cut enough paper for some so just patched it with scraps lol!

Clue game sounds awesome!  I do believe Chicago does stuff like this during the summer.  Hopefully the last few work days go quickly.

We did ours yesterday from 2:30-6ish. Great because we all get done working all but still ends on the early side for folks who need to get home/bedtime routines/whatever. Worked out really well IMO.
  • This is where WFH means no company party to attend!   DH's company is also so big that they don't do one.   Years ago it was often the first Saturday in December and we tried to make it work but I'm rather thankful that it's not something DH and I have to do.   If my prior employer was still in business it would be expected that I attend and that gets added onto my 'one more thing' in December on top of all the birthday, kid events and holiday things.

My hair salon does their holiday party in January and I think that's the planning of a genius.

Our office parties were yesterday and they offered WFH people to come in...but yeah, no.  ;)

My company has moved our annual party away from the holidays and started doing it in early February.  DH's old company used to do their annual shin-dig in January.  It's easy to do here since there are NO big events in the dead of winter, so hotels and event spaces offer bargain basement pricing for events.

To be fair, they scheduled it and sent us a STD all the way back in September or October, so I could have made it a priority to be available. We're a huge company and they do it up with entertainment and all, which wouldn't really work during the week. At least it's not a thing where you're expected to be there.
  • @CharmedPam, a Christmas-themed Haunted House sounds extra fun.

@MyNameIsNot, a Christmas party on the field at sports stadium sounds AMAZING!!!  I hope you all are able to go and also have some good luck finding a good used car.

    @Casadena, squee!!!  So close!

Fridays are my half days, so I'm going home to take a nap pretty soon, lol.  I've been extra tired this week, despite getting a good night's sleep for the last two days in a row.

    Husband rant:

My weekend is still a little up in the air.  No thanks to my H, smh.  I've been trying for the last two days to at least get a semblance of "what we're doing when" for the things we need to accomplish.  He just dropped some bombs on me for other things he needs to do a little while ago that I guess he didn't feel was worth mentioning until now.  He is wrong.

He's often wishy-washy and blows off making real plans, because he prefers to wait until the last minute.  He is especially irritating me with that right now because we have some important things to do and it greatly influences my own weekend.  Including he may...or may not...need my help with a gig job he has on Saturdays.  Our new tenant is moving in on Sat., probably around mid-morning.  So, if he wants my help, I'll have to get up even earlier than I was planning to.  And we'll have to do some of it before we meet her and some of it after.

Oh, except I just found out he has somewhere he is supposed to be at noon.  To help put together a float for a Mardi Gras walking parade he's going to be in.  Which I've mildly side-eyed he is even participating in anyway for a long story and variety of reasons.  So now I'm extra PO'ed he is spending time on this, on an especially bad weekend for us.

I also want to get some times set up for my tenants next to my evicted unit, to come give us quotes on potential work we may have them do.  One of them is a housekeeper for a major hotel.  I asked if she'd be interested in extra cash for doing a deep clean and she said she would, but I want to outline my expectations and get a definite price.  Her brother is a painter and he said he'd be interested in doing our touch-up work, so I want to get a quote from him also.  And I suspect the best times for us all to meet are this weekend.  But I can't contact them to try and set up an appointment time...when my H keeps blowing off telling me when HE'S available.

Anyway.  In the long run, it will be a great weekend.  But probably not very relaxing, as much as I need that.  There are a lot of moving parts and errands to run which, unfortunately, is happening when traffic has been a special nightmare as we start counting down to Christmas.

That is especially brilliant for a company like a hair salon that probably has their best and busiest times over the holidays!

Harrah's New Orleans has a large circular area at the edge of their casino floor.  Large openings, but with walls all the way around.  It's a nightclub on the weekends, but they also do events there.  Back in Oct., I happened to be at the casino when that space was roped off for Employee Appreciation Day.  I suspect that's their version of a holiday party.  It was daytime, but I think there was a band playing.  I could also see nice spreads of food and drink.  Plus a line for presents.

A lot of the hotels around here have their own holiday parties in Jan.

  • H, DD and I all went into Philly yesterday to look at the Dicken's Village in Macys and see the show with their organ (it's the largest pipe organ in the whole world!).  DD was in love with it all!  We then went over to City Hall and the Love Park Christmas Market.  We had a lot of fun, ate some delicious food and got in a good walk too!  DD barely napped, so she was a slight disaster later in the evening.  But this morning, she was so happy about all we did yesterday!  We also got our second tree decorated yesterday.

Our outing gave us the final photo I needed of our Christmas card, so when we got home, I ordered them.  I picked them up on my lunch today.  I was then going to head over to Wegmans, but they were having some sort of issue and were closed.  I won't get back there today, so a grocery run may be needed this weekend - somewhere.

Tomorrow, my parents will come over and we will bread all of the fish for our Christmas Eve Celebration and then get it in the freezer.  My niece and nephew will come over after Church for a bit and we may make some cookies!  Sunday a few towns over is having a Christmas Parade, so hopefully we will make this one!  We will also probably do a few projects around the house this weekend too.
