Wedding Woes

WEDNESDAY

How's it going today? Wet Wednesday hear with some light rain but at least it isn't snow or ice

Re: WEDNESDAY

  • There is nothing stronger than the will of a 5 yo or his jaw when he doesn't want to take medicine.   Evidently the taste of Tamiflu is terrible.  It took DH restraining Chiquito and about 10 minutes of effort to get him to take his 7.5 mL dose this morning.    I'm lucky that Chiquita is better at just dealing with it.

I have a slight sore throat but it doesn't feel like it is strep.  I'm hoping that the Lysoling of all surfaces and the fact that Chiquita's been on antibiotics since Monday help decrease the likilihood that I'll get that.

Thursday or Friday Chiquita should go back to school.   She still has a rough cough but hasn't had a fever since noon Monday.  When she's back in school I will go get decorations for Saturday along with a Carvel cake and I'll bring them to the pub.   Luckily for me, DH doesn't really like homemade cake.   I love to bake but this is NOT the week I want to do it.    Still need to tidy up my home office/spare bedroom so our surprise overnight guest can be here.

And in local news, Fotis Dulos was moved via helicopter to a hospital in NYC where he's in critical condition after his suicide attempt.   @levioosa I'm no medical professional but if you attempt suicide via carbon monoxide poisoning and it takes several minutes of CPR to register a pulse AND you have to be air lifted out of state to a hyperbaric chamber, the liklihood that this person is going to be able to regain consciousness is small and cognitive function is even smaller isn't it?
  • I've read recently online about mixing tamiflu with coffee creamer because it masks the taste and kids like it since it tastes like a treat. Will something like that help?
  • Interesting @kvruns

So I have to leave for a sales conference next week and my nails are so-so. Could they be redone?  Sure.  Do they need it? Maybe not....  I’m debating if I should put money into them or wait a week... i chose a light color so any chipping is hard to see.

I went to bed so freaking early that I got up at 11 and then 2.  At 3 I decided to do my 5 am workout instead so I could fall back asleep at 4. Now my sleep is ALL jacked up.  I hate going to bed too too early!

tomorrow I may add chocolate syrup.

I don't have coffee creamer but we may need to get it.  Luckily it's just a dose for him per day vs. Chiquita who gets two.

  • Banana, that sounds rough. I hope they're both better soon!

This week is really taking forever. I slept like crap last night and was having weird dreams. We have our annual harassment prevention seminar today, and mine isn't until 3:30.

Other than that, SSDD. Enjoying driving my new car.

Chiquito's dose is preventive as is mine.   Their pedi is taking the philosophy that the flu this year is so contagious that if you were exposed in close proximity to the person then it's a good idea to take the Tamiflu and ideally it's helping to prevent getting it especially if you're vaccinated (all of us are).

  • I get to visit my puppy at the ICU tonight, so today is dragging already.  Just want work to be done so I can go.  They updated me to say she is doing pretty well, but they might have to keep her for longer than I was hoping.  I'd like to get a timeline so I know when I can bring her home to stay, but I think it's too early for that yet.

I initially read this as "animal" instead of "annual".  ((Head tilt)) That's...weeiirrdd.  Huh, I wonder what the heck industry she is in if they need animal harassment prevention training.

Then I corrected my reading failure and was lmao.

    Wellll, it IS Wednesday:

  • Another thing about tamiflu - depending on your insurance it might be pretty expensive so if you need it check into coupon programs like GoodRx which may help bring the cost down signifcantly. The only downside is that prescription fill likely won't count toward your deductible but if you're not one to come close to hitting it the savings may be worth it
  • Banana - Can you get a sugary drink to help cover?  My niece had a terrible medicine she hated to drink when similar age.  I brought home a small bit of Slurpee from my job and use that to dole out the medicine.  It was melted, but covered the terrible taste.  Also, some pharmacies used to provide flavoring for their children's medicines.  Maybe try calling to see if they have anything?

Kerhbol - Enjoy puppy snuggles tonight, I hope they can go home soon!

MrsConn - Glad you mom is being sprung today and she continues to get better and fine a good baseline of health.  Continued prayers for her!

I skipped yoga yesterday and went home.  H made soup for dinner and then I went up and took a long bath.  I relaxed some afterwards and then went to sleep early.  I feel so good today!  I've been a bit congested and achy, but nothing I couldn't work through.  And its coming at a great time, since my mom is going to pick up DD from daycare tomorrow, so I can join H overnight at his conference in Atlantic City.  My mom will drop her back off at daycare the next day and we will pick her back up normal time on Friday.

I'm also continuing to plan DDs birthday party.  It is unicorn themed.  While perusing Etsy for "Unicorn Games" I came across some printable adult games that had you figure out whether the pictures were either "Boobs or Butts" or "Porn or Labor".  There was another one, but I forget the choices.  They were so funny!  Great for a bachelorette party or an adult baby shower which is what they were advertised for!
  • @OliveOilsMom do you already have decorations/plates/napkins I've seen some cheap sets on Amazon in the warehouse (things like the box may have been damaged but items are ok, etc)
  • Oh, the prevention training is for sure "Don't fucking harass your co-workers in any way".

Yup.   I spent $160 at the pharmacy the other day because I didn't know about the coupons.   For the rest of you - look for the coupons!

  • I'm pretty much useless at work today, lol.  Between unexpectedly this being my Fri., because I decided yesterday to take Thurs.-Fri. off, and plans to adopt our new kitten tomorrow...I'm in "when will it be 5:00 so I can just leave" mode, lol.

On a totally different subject, I've decided it's time to pull the trigger on refinancing two of my rental properties.  Not the two we are rehabbing.  It's too soon for those.  TBH, it's not the ideal time to refinance.  But I think waiting until I was originally planning to will put me in a worse position.  Hindsight being 20/20, I really wish I'd done it a few months ago.

It will be a huge relief when it is done.  But such a b***ch to get there, lol.  I'm already dreading the time it will take and paperwork mountain I will have to create.

  • kvruns - Thanks!  I will look into the warehouse deals.  I need to get some plates and napkins still.  Her party isn't until Feb 23rd, so I've got time!  I like the Target ones that are available and they are cheaper than some other places I've looked!

I actually bought a set of 20 restaurant quality plastic cups (in shades of blue), so that I can simply wash and store for parties where I need extra glassware.  I'm trying to cut down on our single use plastics and think this will help!  No more solo cups for us!
  • @OliveOilsMom this is going to be single use stuff but has some plates/napkins and decorations in case one of these work

Much appreciated!  I'm trying to focus on single use plastics first.  I will make efforts to cut down on other single use items once I get plastics under control!  We are cutting out balloons for the party this year.  I did it at Christmas too, but will continue with this party, but I avoided buying water bottles and just put out my large filtered water reservoir from the fridge.  All of the other decorations I've purchased are made of paper and at least recyclable, but I also take the time to wrap them up and organize them afterwards, so I can donate them to charity to be reused by someone else.
  • I’ve got nothing today, I’m tired, work is busy.

The first floor still had fumes last night so I hid out upstairs. We had dinner in bed, which is actually a whole lot weirder than I thought.
  • I'm traveling for work this week.  I came in on Sunday and will be here until Saturday.  I'm in a beach front hotel so the view is gorgeous and temps are in the 60s.  Definitely a upgrade from the landlocked, freezing cold state where I live.  A friend joined me Sun, Mon and Tues for some tourist fun and now working Weds - Friday and flying home Saturday.

  • Ugh godspeed @banana468 My son is a freaking blood hound no matter what I put certain prescriptions in (juice, a milkshake, etc) he sniffs it out.  Not fun.

I had a very productive day (well I guess lunch period)...I just had like a dozen appointments/evaluations etc to reschedule as well as a child care shake up and it's now all taken care of.  Such a great feeling.

Albeit about pets.  This reminds me of a joke article I've seen a few times:

How to Give Your Cat a Pill

    1)  Pick up cat and cradle it in the crock of your left arm as if holding a baby.  Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of the cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand.  As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth.  Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

    2)  Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa.  Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

    3)  Retrieve cat from bedroom and throw soggy pill away.

    4)  Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm while holding rear paws tightly with left hand   Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger.  Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

    5)  Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe.  Retrieve spouse from outside.

    6)  Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees.  Hold front and rear paws.  Ignore low growls emitted by  cat.  Get spouse to hold hear firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth.  Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

    7)  Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap.  Make note buy new ruler and repair curtains.  Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

    8)  Wrap cat i large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible form below armpit.  Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.

    9)  Check label to make sure pill is not harmful to humans.  Drink one beer to take taste away.  Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

    10)  Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed.  Get another pill.  Open another beer.  Place cat in cupboard and close door on neck to leave head showing.  Force mouth open with dessert spoon.  Flick pill down throat with elastic band.

    11)  Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges.  Drink beer.  Fetch bottle of scotch.  Pour shot of scotch and drink.  Apply cold compress to cheek and check record for date of last tetanus shot.  Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect.  Toss back another shot.  Throw shirt away and fetch new on from bedroom.

    12)  Call fire department to retrieve cat from across the road.  Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat.  Take last pill from foil wrap.

    13)  Tie the little &#^@'s front legs to rear legs with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table.  Find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed.  Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of steak.  Hold cat's head vertically and pour two pints of water down throat to wash pill down.

    14)  consume remainder of scotch.  Get spouse to drive you to the ER.  Sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye.  Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.

How To Give Your Dog A Pill

    1)  Wrap pill in bacon.

    2) Toss it in the air.

He is SUCH a picky eater.   If only I could make it garlic flavored and stir it into hummus. The kid will spoon it into his mouth like there's a chick pea shortage.
