  OH FFS!  Her parents are telling her to just write the essay in order not to piss off other family.  She's going to be in 'big trouble' with them.  WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN FOR A 27 YEAR OLD?! 
  
  And HOW did her sister even come up with this method?! Who would even want to read all those 'essays'?  Why would your assign homework to YOURSELF? 
  
  I hate all of these people.  It sounds like OP was raised in a family of assholes and somehow is reasonable, at least in this instance.  
  
  This is the third time today that I've seen some fuckery that made me think, "THIS is why I'll never not be tired."

  Edit2: Sister has framed these essays as “surveys” but there’s a word limit requirement so if you don’t reach it on the google forms you can’t even submit. Parents think this is perfectly reasonable, nice even, because sister is letting everyone have the chance to attend.

  Nope.   In no universe am I writing why I deserve to be invited to your wedding.  That you think that this is somehow a worthy requirement makes me want to attend your wedding LESS than I already do.
  
  And if that's the reaction that parents are giving then they are terrible parents full stop.   Good parenting means not enabling your kids and showing them tough love like, "This is insulting to your guests especially your sister. "

  If someone made me write 2 essays to qualify for a wedding invitation, I would have written one curse-filled 500 word essay on what a terrible human being they are with a concluding paragraph telling them where they can go.

  I'm also in club "Here Are my 250 Words - NO!"...  
  
  If the bride can't figure out how to cut people down and sends that crap to her direct family and only sibling...  It's CTJ time for a "Time to grow up - life sometimes involves crappy decisions - "can I get you the Kitchen Aid mixer to just stay home???" (scary reality - it's cheaper than everything else DW!)
