Wedding Woes

HOT Friday!

It's gonna be WARM today.  It's already almost 80 and not even 10am.

Today is DefConn's last day of camp.  It's a half day.  I'm so glad we've been able to carpool with his BFF.  It's made it very easy.

We're taking the boat out for the first time tomorrow.  I cannot wait.

Sunday we're smoking chickens to pull and bring on vacation for one of the dinners.  DH is also going to get the car ready for our trip (brake and oil change) and we'll clean it out and detail it.  Thankfully, we did a clean before I went to MI last month.  The interior is not in bad shape.

I ordered DH and me some bamboo blankets since we're both getting too warm at night while we're sleeping.  I also ordered two books, even though I'm in the middle of two books already.  But I've gone quite a few years without reading regularly and there's been so many books that have come out recently that I just really have wanted to read.  Plus, who doesn't bring a book or two on vacation to not read.  LOL

Re: HOT Friday!

  • Boo to a difficult morning @Casadena.  I hope you get to relax this weekend (as much as you can at this point).

    I'm currently reading

"The Wreckage of my Presence" by Casey Wilson (essays)
"Broken Horses" by Brandi Carlile (memoir)

    I ordered:

"The Housewives: The real story behind The Real Housewives" by Brian Moylan
    "Somebody's Daughter" by Ashley C. Ford (she's actually a local-to-me author)
  • @mrsconn23, let me know how the bamboo sheets work out for you all.  I've bought a number of pillows and sheets...including a bamboo pillow come to think of it...that all say they keep people cooler.  But I have never noticed one jot of difference with any of them.  I haven't tried bamboo sheets, though.

I finally got my work IT problem fixed and just finished the weekly report that has not been sent out for three weeks, lol.  And what was the problem?  They discontinued running that application on Citrix.  But apparently didn't bother telling anyone, smh.

Amazing night, last night!  I won $1640 at Harrahs!  It was actually two big hits.  I was playing 5 cent video poker, but with max. bet and 10 lines.  It's a special game called Ultimate X that often has multipliers on the hands.  First, I hit a royal flush on a 3x hand.  That was a $600 win.  While playing Deuces Wild, I was dealt 4-of-a-kind 2's...on the bottom hand!!!!  Which meant I could keep those cards for all 10 hands.  I also had a 2x multiplier on 7 hands and a 7x multiplier.  That was an $1100 win.

Today should also be a great day!  I'm caught up with work and should be off right at 11AM, which is rare for me.  I don't have any errands to run after work, other than going to the bank...to pay down my HELOC with my gambling winnings and cash rents collected.  So looking forward to a leisurely Friday.  Followed by what should be a leisurely weekend!  The only thing I have "planned" is going to a Mexican restaurant on Sunday, that has an all-you-can-eat brunch for $15/person.  And all-you-can-drink mimosas can be added for an additional $10/person.

glad you enjoyed the movie @CharmedPam H used to go to movies himself a lot in December because he'd take like 3 weeks off work (bc he has a bazillion hours of PTO) and would go because he had nothing else to do. I'm not a movie person really but if there was something I was dying to see I'd be ok to go alone.

B started to get a cold on Sunday; I started to get it Tuesday and now H has it as of last night. Of course it is full man cold territory and he's still asleep now at almost 1030am. Just asked my parents if their pool was open yet since it will be a hot weekend and it would be nice to go there and avoid man cold central but they said it still isn't ready. They're trying to do more of the chemical stuff themselves to save some money but sounds like it isn't quite working.  My neighborhood has a pool so we can go there just more of a pain to either walk almost a mile or drive a wet kid
  •  @mrsconn23, I thought I was the only one to pack a book in my beachbag and then end up just listening to my tunes? Lol.  Your weekend sounds fun!

conjuring 3 is a love story.  I was not expecting that.  Good though.  People ask me if I feel weird going to movie theatres alone.  I actually don’t.  Which is odd for me because I l’m usually not a “go alone” type of person but I’m already thinking of things to do this summer, albeit alone.  Like diners, painting classes, movies (of course), maybe some fests... we’ll see.

@short+sassy you asked about my heloc last night.  I got home at 9:30 and in the mail was a letter dated June 2nd asking for more info.  And if they don’t hear from me in 10 days from the letter date, they’ll assume I’m not interested. Today is the 11th. I checked my phone to see if maybe she had tried calling me and I missed it? But no.  Of course I hadn’t heard from her since I sent off the app and documents she wanted... so we HAVE been e-mailing for a month.  I’m quite mad her first form of contact was a snail mail letter.

I let her know I did not receive this until late last night and passive aggressively asked if we could set my preferred method of contact to email or even text.  ‘Cus, you know, it’s 2021 and we’ve been doing this electronically since May 12th.

other than that, wfh today so I’m going to fit in some workouts here and there.. I mean. Work. Diligently.
Your post is good timing.  The insurance company for my personal home is NOTORIOUS for sending out my renewal at the end of May, even though the insurance expires on June 13th.  This year, they also wanted me to update my "application" by verifying some info and signing it.  They mailed the letter right before the Memorial Day holiday.  I received it on June 2nd.

Hopefully the extra info they need for the HELOC isn't a big deal and they will give you more time (if needed).  To expect a turnaround in 10 days, especially for something that was mailed, is totally ridiculous.  Mail service has been terrible and slow in the US for the last few years and everybody knows that.  My mail doesn't even get delivered every day anymore, lol.  It's random days, but is only delivered 3-4x/week.

I seem to keep running into companies that want me to fax them stuff.  Including the insurance company I just mentioned above.  I'm a bitch about it and will flat out tell them, "Is there any other way I can send this, other than snail mail or fax?  Because it isn't the 1980s, so I don't have access to a fax machine."

Nice win @short+sassy.  Between you telling me this, and my friend telling me about her trip to Vegas - I have an urge to go to a casino now...

all they wanted were some w2’s and my home owners insurance. I pulled them off the websites in 5 minutes. And they could have gotten it on the 2nd if it was just e-mailed to me.

And faxes?!? I always thought time share companies and roofing companies were the only ones to use faxes... confession.  Our work one is also the copier. A few years ago my doc wanted me to fax something and I tried to do it, but it said it didn’t go through.  I felt to embarrassed to ask if anyone knew how the fax worked since the way I thought it would didn’t (face down, and then the fax button and fax #... and then 2nd attempt face up).  I never tried again.  Our new admin of 3 years can’t fax out either. All we get are 10 day all inclusive beach resort offers and business loan faxes... as far as I know our fax machine can’t fax out.  Or me and everyone who’s tried don’t know how? It’s probably the latter.

  • I’ve been trying to get an excel add in to work for HOURS now. Firewalls are preventing simple things from updating and I’m way too tired for this. I had 1 beer after playing a softball game last night and I’m dehydrated and exhausted. So so glad it’s Friday!

I would have said maybe there isn't a phone line hooked to it anymore.  But, if you all receive faxes, that wouldn't be the case.  You can probably Google for the fax instructions, for that copier brand and model number.

My work still has one sitting on an unused desk.  But they cut the phone line for it 3-4 years ago.

Lately, it's been my main loan servicer and insurance companies.  But it's something I occasionally run into and it's baffling.

  • That flooring looks beautiful!

At the publishing company I used to have to send faxes all the time when we were attending conferences.  It's been over three years since I've been there, but I wonder if that is still a thing ....

  • So we did speech assessment.
BK is delayed likely due to lack of socialization {covid} but also potentially a touch of add/adhd but no big flags.

We put her in gymnastics for fall so it should help. They gave us somethings to do with her for now also. Part of it is she's too good at independent play, so we need to push for us to play with her more.
She is confirmed stubborn but more a BK agenda - giving her only 2 options, and more control without us losing control should help also.
  • Oh I'm starting to do that in my head.  I clearly have "enough" clothing to get through events and when we go on vacation we aren't suddenly going to change who we are.

And yet now I'm wondering what if I suddenly need a new pair of shoes?

  • Ha!  I just spent my lunch hour browsing online for clothes I need for a potential not-yet-booked cruise we are thinking of come February!

  • Oh I always over pack.  I have never regretted that!

i just took a 45 minute walk in this heat on my lunch hour. 1 minute juuuuust before getting to my door it starts to rain, no. Pour.  Like, that was the perfectly timed walk in history of all walks.  I wanted to do 1 hour but the heat was killing me.  Rain came out of nowhere. They said it wasn’t going to rain either.

love built In shelves @Jstump2.  Dooooooo it!
@MissKittyDanger I didn’t even think of lack of socialization. It seems like that meeting went well though and you got some helpful ideas.

  • When hubby and I went backpacking, I had to force him to leave behind half of his stuff that he packed.  Literally half .... for a boy scout he doesn't get packing light.

I backpacked the UK for two weeks with a regular sized backpack, and a big portion of it was the Europe on a Shoestring book!  That book was huge ....

TGIF! I am super busy at work, but I am getting more comfortable and it is still going well.

I am really hoping we can swing the floors before we move but it's going to be tight depending on how the timeline ends up working out. This is the photo of the living room and a photo of the style floor I like. We are still debating whether we want a luxury vinyl or engineered hardwood.

This would be down the line, but I want to do some sort of built-ins along that back wall.

    ok

I know I say this all the time, lol.  But I am a HUGE fan of LVP.  It is incredibly durable.  Most types are totally waterproof.  If a section of floor does get damaged, you can cut out the damaged piece and seamlessly replace it with another one.  It's also the easiest type of flooring to install.  And it looks just like wood.

Now, with that said, real wood floors are the most desirable type of flooring for resale value.  I know you all certainly aren't selling the new house anytime soon after you fought so hard for it, lol.  But still.  You will someday and wood floors can last 50-100 years (with refinishing).  LVP has a life span of about 25 years.

Hardwood floors are at least $1/square foot more then LVP and they are also more expensive to install.  It's not something I price often, but that is also roughly $1/square foot more for installation.

Edited to add:  You also want to keep in mind what kind of flooring is typical for your neighborhood.  If most other homes have hardwoods, then it is even more crucial for resale value to have similar.  If not, then it isn't as big of a deal.

  • We put LVP in our downstairs.  It was very easy to install, is easy to maintain, and we've gotten nothing but compliments on it.
  • After talking with more people and visiting a few stores I think we are sold on the lvp. But now I have to decide on color. There's sooo many options! Lol which is good but slightly overwhelming

Personal preference, it's a STRONG personal preference lol, my favorite color flooring is medium browns.  Just like in the pic you posted as an example.

Another strong personal preference is the wider looking planks.

My personal preferences are so bad that I feel compelled to use medium brown, wider planks even when they are cheaper options available.  Despite the flooring being for rental houses that I am not going to be living in!  I try to get over myself, but I can't, lol.

  • Wide planks and beveled edges.  ;)

We did skew dark grey w/black-brown accents with our LVP, but agreed that medium brown is easier to style/design around.

If you have a Floors and Decor in your area, I would definitely recommend them. They were the most reasonable and helpful when we were shopping for flooring.
  • My advice is to get it professionally installed.  My parents are very handy people and even had a hard time with it!

LVP talk - I hate that every house I look at has LVP now. I like how it looks but honestly I like carpet. I had hardwoods at my old house and hated cleaning them, always felt like they were dirty.  Much prefer to have carpet and run a vaccum over it. I know that is super Unpopular Opinion has everyone else wants to rip out carpet.  Also with baby B I prefer carpet for him with all of his running around and jumping. I know you can add rugs but idk I am happy when I see carpe (assuming it isn't horrible of course)

    SIB:
Some of that might be climate related.  I guess I can't speak for other areas of the country but, down here, it's rare to see carpet at all in a house.  Even in the bedrooms.  My H thinks that's weird for the bedrooms, because he grew up in a colder climate.  He likes carpet in bedrooms because it keep floors "warmer" in the winter.  I'm like, "Yeah, but people out here don't want carpet for the 10 days a year it drops below 35, lol."

FWIW, don't quote me on this, but I'd think you could easily have carpet installed over LVP, without harming it.

But I hear ya!  It's annoying when your preference isn't the popular one.

I also agree on the keeps the floor warmer, because I remember my feet were always freezing with my hardwoods. Granted my feet are always cold but it was even worse then. I'd wear thick socks and slippers walking around
