Wedding Woes

Fun Friday

We made it!  Kids haven't experienced a reaction to their vaccine yet, I guess they're out of the woods. Schools were closed yesterday for Veterans Day so we had a nice day at a nearby preserve on the Long Island Sound that in addition to the "beach" has forest trails and a fun playground.  Planning on pizza tonight and I have plans to see my parents and siblings tomorrow which I'm looking forward to.  Hope everyone has a stress-free Friday and enjoyable weekends.

Re: Fun Friday

  • M is visiting his nanny and getting more info. Sounds like she may not need a pace maker but still being watched in hospital. Likely will end up still going to the heart institute for further testing.

I said recently to M that it'd be nice to just have a calm time until February and 2021 just said "Hold my beer"
M was like "2021 is just giving me thinly veiled threats about my family ... so much fun"
{Side note: M's grampa has leukemia and he's been on meds for a few years keeping it at bay, unfortunately he's experiencing side effects so he's going off the meds.
    Dr's said it'll help but they estimate 4 years :\ He is in his mid-80s so he wants to have quality of life}

Anyways, so I've been keeping eye on M because he doesn't show his issues and I'm worried. I'm glad we have Saturday night together, I can try and get him to talk
    {I asked recently because of Angel, and he agreed he's sad but things don't affect him same way as me}
  • I'm leaving work one hour early to go to a Landlord Assistance event the city is holding.  Unfortunately, I didn't hear about it until mid-day yesterday and spent a couple hours hurriedly getting ready for it yesterday.

In a nutshell, for the previous Rent Relief, landlords couldn't apply for it on their own.  Their tenants had to apply and still be living in the house.  That wasn't the guidelines for the program.  That was just the bullshit parameters that Orleans Parish decided to put in place.

But now I guess there is going to be another round of it coming and, this time, landlords can apply for previous tenants.  So that is what I will be doing today.

It's probably just a cruel hoax by the city to get me to waste more of my time and slightly get my hopes up, smh.  But I'm still going for that snowball's chance in hell that I can get some compensation.  No decisions are being made like that today, of course.  But I want to speak to someone in person, to make sure my application has all the Ps and Qs.

After that, I might go help my H finish our weekly Costco scanning (I did that last night).  He said he was going to try to take care of the rest on his own, but would let me know.

When I finally get home, it will be many and large cocktails, lol.  I will need them after today!

  • I am working out the two weeks at this job, but taking my foot off the gas and just trying to clean stuff up. My dad is meeting for me for lunch today and I am already ready and over work today lol.

Tomorrow the girls both have swim lessons, this will be my youngest’s first time so fingers crossed she does okay. Later on I am planning on attending a memorial for the coworker that passed away at the old/new company. Sunday my parents may be coming over, it’s still up in the air.

At some point I want to work on getting more wallpaper down. We have the paint already and it’s going to make a huge difference but there is just so much wallpaper! I have just about all the “top layer” off and have tested out the steamer on the underlayer and glue and it comes off really well! Just have to keep chipping away.

  • As you all may or may not know, the US opened up the rules for sports betting about a year ago.  It's always existed in NV, but I think that's the only place it was previously allowed.  I don't even think Atlantic City had sports betting, but I'm not sure about that.

At any rate, casinos around the country have been scrambling to get their respective states to allow sports betting and to get those programs set up.

It just opened in Harrahs NOLA.  But I was pretty shocked to see they were also talking about having mobile sports betting soon.

Just my opinion, but I think mobile sports betting is a really bad idea.  Not for the casino, of course, lol.  But for society at large.  Gambling can be so addictive and it seems like sports betting is especially so.  If you at least have to make people go to the casino to place their bets, that can take some temptation out.

I'm also picturing people getting drunk on football Sunday.  Picking up their phone and betting $5K on the Giants.  I'm teasing about the Giants!  But yeah about making large, random bets because someone is "happy drunk".

BK at preschool. Questioning if she'll be a leftie

  • Back at work, H is at camp, and Baby M had his 15 month shots this morning. He’s happily playing with my mom now so hoping he stays in good spirits!

Not much for the weekend. Seeing my sister and niece in the morning if the weather is good we’re heading to the playground!
  • Brunch was good. We decided against trying for the beach and it was the right way to go. There was some silliness where there was already a group sat at our table when we arrived, nbd. But later, while half our table were up getting plates, 3 lobsters and a tuna steak arrived. We accepted them thinking someone inside ordered them but then eventually figured out that the other group must have ordered them, lol. (This brunch was buffet style but with a fish station where they cooked everything fresh so they would take your table number and deliver it to you)

I snuck out after we got home to pick up a B-day present for my friends boy and presents for DS from the Dummy Fairy. DH said we should rip off the band-aid and do it tonight. Wish us luck!
  • So happy it's Friday.  Some more changes at work this week.  It's so hard to get traction on anything when the players and processes keep changing.  It's also been a rough week between DH and I.  We just couldn't seem to get on the same page and everything was an argument with him.  Seems better now.

Going out to dinner tonight with DH and my Mom.  Mom finished her quarantine earlier in the week.  She's feeling pretty well, just left over fatigue.

Not sure what we'll do this weekend.  Groceries and laundry are on the list.  Our football teams play in the same time slot on Sunday so we'll have to track one on the app.

One positive for the week.  DH and I share a small data plan through Verizon.  Usually that is plenty and if we run over, we can get a bump for $15.  Cheaper to do that than bump up to a higher plan and have a higher monthly bill.  Anyway, this week I got an email from them offering to bump up our data to 999 GB for $5/mo as long as we stay on our plan.  Done!

Ummm...yes!!!  I only wish this restaurant wasn't an ocean away from me, lol.

Pre-pandemic, the Harrah's and Boomtown casino buffets would have lobster once a week, but only for the brief time it was in season.  They also didn't do it every year.  When they had it, it also wasn't "all you can eat" like the rest of the buffet items.  Only one, per buffet ticket.

Back then, I often had free buffet meal offers at Harrahs.  My H can't stand lobster, so I would bring him and get TWO lobster tails.  After those "two lobster" meals, my stomach was usually a touch queasy from all the drawn butter.  Totally worth it!

I miss the occasional free casino buffets, sigh.  During the pandemic, Harrahs closed their's down permanently and turned it into another gaming area.

  • At work and not here for it. It’s a Friday for sure. It’s one of our staff member’s last day which is a bummer but I’m glad they’re moving on to bigger and better things. I should have gotten up with FI this morning to workout but I wanted to sleep another hour.

2021 is the year that won’t stop giving. Last night I called my grandparents to wish my grandfather a happy Veterans Day. We talked a little bit and he said some things about the surgery he just had that I was able to read right through. I felt a pit in my stomach and I was able to piece things together just from one or two offhanded comments. Then he gave the phone over to my grandmother who immediately told me he was lying and he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer and would start treatment the day after thanksgiving. Ugh. I was the first person she had told and she sounded so upset. It was hard to hear. So then I had to call my mom and tell her and she was upset (of course). So last night was not relaxing and I’m thinking about it a lot today. I wish we lived closer. My parents are starting to seriously consider moving in with them which might be best.

Otherwise, SSSDD. My manager is out M-W next week so that will be challenging but it is what it is. I’m working on my Christmas shopping so I can hopefully enjoy the Christmas season without stressing.

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

  • Great deal @MNNEBride
@short+sassy, how long is the Costco gig? Was it a set date or can it go on and on and on?
@MissKittyDanger cute picture of BK’ maybe she’ll be ambidextrous?
@ei34, yay for no side effects!

This weekend I’m getting my hair extensions back in! Can’t wait.  I sweat so BAD on my head, it’s crazy.  And the clip in’s are weighed down.  I want my extensions
    dammit!
Then Sunday I have a baby shower. Looking forward to meeting some old friends

  • Damn @levioosa you’ve had a year.
  • @ei34 yay no side effects :) did they feel anything right after? {i've heard younger crowd having less issues with vax}

@CharmedPam I genuinely hope so in comparison to her being a leftie. M & I are righties. MIL and one of my uncles are lefties, BIL is ambidextrous and my granny use to be leftie {sign of times, she was forced to be rightie} and except writing, I'm ambidextrous.

It's bedtime and giving up the dummy is going expectedly bad. We didn't prep him enough for it. 😞 We have been talking about it and reading a bedtime book about it but we should have given him a few days notice at least. DH is doing stories tonight, which is good I guess since it is heartbreaking to hear DS cry but I still wish I was in there to comfort him. I did give him a melatonin gummy before he brushed his teeth because I anticipated this being a rough night for him. Hopefully he sleeps through the night and is excited for the presents the Dummy Fairy brings him. (And that tomorrow will be easier, FX.)

Eta: he's asleep now, less than 6 minutes from when I posted this.

I think it's a British thing. I had never heard of it until we moved here. But basically, when it is time for kids to give up their dummies (pacifiers, binkies, whatever) they put the dummies in a bag for the Dummy Fairy to take and she leaves them a present, similar to the tooth fairy.

    Okay this is genius.
  • Idk if anyone watches "This is Us" returns Jan 4th on NBC

I think it works better when kids are more willing or better prepared?? My friend asked her DD when she wanted the dummy fairy to come and then they marked it on the calendar. DS LOOOOOVVVEEES his dummy though. Idk that he would have given it up voluntarily before it did (more) damage to his teeth. DH is probably correct, that it is easier to rip off the band-aid, but it was hard for him. 😞
  • @missJeanLouise I've heard the first 3 nights are the worst and think that proved pretty true with my girls. We also just went cold-turkey. The worst was when they would find a lost one after the fact and meltdown city!
  • Chiquito wanted to marry his pacifier.  It was a LONG process getting him to get rid of it and I think I blocked out how we got him to quit.

Speaking of Chiquito I'm feeling snarky after reading an email from his teacher.  According to her the security officer addressed the class today about lockdown drills and Chiquito asked questions to the officer about what could be done if the intruder had a lock pick or a knife.  According to the teacher those are scary questions so he should be sure to only ask them to an adult...by himself?

I am going to sit on this over the weekend so I can formulate my response to a second grade teacher who just told me I should tell my child to stop asking questions.

When I go to the track, I place a bet or two on the horses.  Very rare though, and it's never for a race I really care about, because it just seems that every time I put money down, my horse never wins.  But if I'm just cheering, my horse does great.  Last week 3 or the 4 top finishers in the Breeder's Cup were my picks.

But add alcohol to that and I can see that getting dangerous.  And then the mobile sports betting ... yeah, that can be troublesome.

  • @banana468 I'm angry for you! I'm sure he wasn't the only kid with that question and that sounds like a perfectly reasonable time to ask such a question.

The Costco gig is a regular thing.  It goes on and on, every week.  The first day it can start each week is Thursday and it needs to be completed by Saturday.  But they also give bigger bonuses (per week) the sooner it gets done.  My H and I have regularly been able to complete it by Friday.

For holiday weeks, like next week, they'll usually allow it to start on Wednesday and give bigger bonuses.  I'm actually excited about next week.  I only work a half day on Wednesday, so my H and I are planning to knock it out in that one day.  The only bad part is the day before Thanksgiving is going to be a MADHOUSE at Costco.
