  • @banana468, (on Sarah Palin), exactly!  I was in NYC in September and most places required us to show our vaccination cards, but not all.

It's even worse in NOLA.  Restaurants/bars were pretty good about it when the vaccine edict was first put into effect.  But we've had it continuously now for 6 months and most places don't check anymore.

However, the business that is fanatical about checking for vaccination cards, including comparing it to an ID?  Harrahs.  With that kind of money on the line, they are taking no chances to give the city even the smallest reason to shut them down, lmao.

  • @short+sassy I don't know about vaccination cards but the casinos near me are big on carding for other purposes AND they're huge on not letting you have two drinks at a time.  If you're finishing a cocktail and have even a few sips left you better chug it as your next drink is brought over.  The are routinely inspected and if there are more beverages on the table than people they're fined.

In the pre-pandemic days, most casinos I've been to across the country are big on carding if you even remotely look like you could be under 21.  But don't ask for ID, if you don't.

Most casinos I've been to are also only one drink at a time.  But that's for all drinks.  Not just alcoholic ones.  I've always assumed that was casinos trying to save money on beverages, but maybe there are other things in play.

Actually, the casinos in the NOLA and MS areas have been the most lax I've seen on being able to have more than one drink at the same time.  You can only order one drink at a time, but they don't take away your previous one.

I also meant to mention, one blessing in my city is most people choose to wear masks, whether there is a mandate or not.  But that's only the city proper.  You go one town over into any of the suburbs and it's a totally different story.

The government tells businesses what they can and can't allow multiple times every day of the year.  And as long as that business is using public roads, transportation, sidewalks, telephone liens, utilities, etc., that are paid for and/or supplemented with taxpayer dollars and/or tax easements from taxpayers, they can STFU as far as I'm concerned, about government overreach or they can flip into a private business and pay for all that stuff themselves.

ETA: I get hot about this, b/c this "government overreach" is what has kept marginalized citizens from accessing businesses throughout the years.
