US Postal Service May Have to Cease Mail Delivery PERIOD???

On the news yesterday, the US Postal service is just in dire trouble and there's the possiblity of mail service ceasing all together.  That would be such a tragedy on so many levels.

It got me to thinking about how we would communicate.  Obvisouly email and the phone would be our only options.

But, of particular interest to us brides-to-be, what happens to the sweat and love we put into designing, creating, and choosing  of our STDs and wedding invitations?  The "feel" of the invite would not be there.  It would be an evite.

Is it just me, or would not being able to send tactile invitations be a loss to the experience of wedding planning?   I mean I know you would save money but still...

I agree with you.  It would be a loss.  I am designing my STDs now. (I'm late in the game. I know. LOL) I already know what I want my invites to look like.  If I can't mail them out it would lose that "feel" in the evite.  I think the ones I could I would hand deliver.  I guess I better keep a close eye on the news.  Somehow I just dont see the gov't letting the USPS go out of business.

I guess fedex, UPS and the other package carriers will probably include regular first-class mail in their day-to-day operations. I personally wouldn't miss them - the only thing I get in the mail these days is junk...oh and RSVPs

Very true.  I wonder at what price tag though?

To me I really do think that this would be a tragedy to all of us. It's hard to believe that all the hard work that we placed into our STD and wedding invites wouldn't even be seen my our guests to wow all over. True it would save us money but in my case I'm sitting here thinking like um majority of our guest isn't computer savvy so envite would just be horrible to some. Unless like another knottie said would have to hand delivery the ones that can be hand delivered. Thank GOD that all our guests are in Houston except for my grandmother and a few uncles and aunts that I know will be here with bells on......  I was setting my deadline to mail out wedding invites in late December/early January. I guess I better wait and see what's what before I waste the money and time of printing/assembling the wedding invites. Hopefully USPS will not ceased.

I saw this on the news also. I don't think the government would let the Post Office close down.  I do think they should stop Saturday Delivery. They can even stop delivering mail on Monday also.  I am computer savy, but I am old fashion also, I still get all of my bills in the mail.  As for weddings, many brides would be lost, if they could not mail those invites.  I think that is one of the most exciting things about being a bride, mailing those invites. I know we all have to change at sometime, but I don't think closing down the Postal Service would be a good change.

I don't think it will happen but I wouldn't miss them. I surely do not have a good experience with them. I didn't even want people to mail me their RSVP cards. I would gladly support the other carriers. Like I said before, they probably won't shut down but they'll probably reduce days/hours.

Considering the fact that a large portion of our invites never arrived to their intended destinations and many of our rsvps got lost in the matrix....I really don't think I would miss the post office that much.  Dealing with the post office these last few months has been aggravating to say the least.  But yes, I agree FedEx and UPS would step in to fill the gap.

This.  it would be an opportunity to expand the scope of business for the carriers.
