LED chains for uplighting

Hi there -
Have any of you guys used these (http://cgi.ebay.com/B05BB6CH-LED-tube-chain-wedding-background-lighting_W0QQitemZ160411110367QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item25593f4bdf) in lieu of standard uplighting?  What did you think???

At first I thought they may be a bit cheesy, like Xmas lights, but the more I look, the better they are looking... especially price-wise.

    i dont think they look like christmas lights.

    i would just use christmas lights if i need some lighting like that though. i wouldnt spend money on them, but thats just me.

    From the look of the picture, they don't actually create much light, and in a large venue you'll get about a foot of light near the floorboards with those unfortunate hot spots. Those aren't going to even approach the look of standard uplighting-- they can be a minor accent maybe.
