This is what I came up with, did I miss anything?
TOP 10 Reasons not to have a honeymoon/cash registry:
#1. Rude. Despite that some people might not be offended by them, they are still a blatant request for cash, which is rude, and tacky.
#2. Trickery. Almost all honeymoon/cash registries “trick” the guests into thinking that they are buying the couple something- like a sunset cruise- when in reality the couple just gets cut a check.
#3. Economy. A lot of people have been hard hit by the economy, and it has an extra burn to ask them to pay for a vacation (or worse a home, when they might be struggling with foreclosure like so many people are). Be thoughtful and considerate, if they have money to give, they will.
#4. Timing. Most guests buy gifts right before or after the wedding, therefore the money from a HM registry cannot be counted upon for planning a honeymoon (which needs to be booked in advance).
#5. Showers. The whole purpose of bridal showers is to ‘shower’ the bride with gifts, so if you don’t have a registry with gifts, then be prepared to decline any showers.
#6. Guests are not dumb. They know that cash is always appreciated, and they will give you cash if they want to.
#7. Fees. Some registries take a fee or cut, why not just skip the middle man? Your guests will give you money directly to you.
#8. Greedy. HM/cash registries can appear greedy to guests, since these are things that you want, but do not need.
#9. Unreliable. You never know how much you will get, so plan a honeymoon that you can afford, or you might get stuck without enough to pay for the trip.
#10. Advice: Create a small registry, because some guests will buy gifts no matter what. Then have your family/friends spread by word of mouth that you are saving up for something, so when guests ask what to get you they can respond with “oh B&G are really saving for their _____(honeymoon, house, family, etc)”.
