Mother of the bride dresses

Did anyone else's mother have trouble finding a dress? My mom wanted a long dress to match mother of groom ( I guess they talked about it and agreed to it) so she wanted to find a long dress with sleeves or a jacket. We went to Macy's, Nordstorms, Lord and Taylor, and where I got my dress....nothing she loved. And most carried the same dresses. Most had heavy jackets or way to much beading, or were sleeveless.
Then, we finally found one and it was discontinued so we couldn't order it in her size...we were picking out colors when we found out. So, we go to another store, find one that is awesome lightweight for summer, sleeves, and looks awesome on her. It has a tear so we order a new one-DISCONTINUED! I wanted to scream but thankfully the dress shop is going to fix the dress.
Okay sorry for the vent.

If the shop can fix it, I guess the important thing is she got the dress!

I had an awful time.  A lot of them were not FUN, you know?  I wanted fun and comfortable with a little bling.  I also wanted something with a jacket, but something that I could have a hot flash in and not ruin the fabric.  And the money?  Crazy!!!  I feel your pain.  I ended up with this....

I also had a hard time finding an MOG long dress for July 2010 with flutter sleeves.  This would be a great business venture as decent/not frumpy looking MOG dresses are really very hard to find. I finally ended up ordering this David Meister dress from Saks online - wish I looked like the model!!:

LOL!  These posts made me laugh!  I thought I was the only one!  I feel like most MOB dresses are either made for a perfect size 4 with a 25 yr old body or Aunt Bea!!!  A dress for somewhat stylish women ;)  in their late 40s or early 50s (the age of most MOBs and MOGs)  are hard to find!!  Keep looking ladies they are out there.  I found a strapless dress but having it modified with straps!!  Classy but age appropriate!

Another good designer, but pricey, is Tadashi, for regular and plus sizes. Bloomingdales has a good selection and can be ordered online. Here is a dress I was considering - I am in my early 60's:

I agree that Tadashi has a lot of variety.  I honestly don't own a dress, and searched high and low for a dress that had some structure to it, and had enough of a sleeve that I could avoid wearing a jacket.  I especially like the back of the dress.  It took me three trips to find it, however.  Keep plugging along.  Take someone with whose opinion you trust!

Alfred Angelo has a lot of really nice MOB dresses/outfits. My mom liked a lot of their choices and they weren't frumpy :-)

We live in Kansas City and my mom and I went to St. Louis to find her dress (about 4 hours away).  She found a dress online that she really wanted to try on and not one store in Kansas City or Omaha (where a lot of her family lives) had that dress in a sample size.  They had every other dress in that line, but not that one!  So it wasn't easy, but it was a fun weekend trip!  : )

I ordered my dress from onestopplus.com they have resonable prices and  are very beautiful. I ordered 5 dresses kept 2 and returned the other 3. I needed one for the rehersal dinner as well.  I order ALL my clothes and shoes from there, they have a HUGE selection of everything. They are geared for plus size women though.

I got my dress at Nordstroms although I first tried it on at Saks.

Teri Jon has a huge collection of formal seperates.  I got a shirred silk strapless top with an simple long straight skirt with a slit to about the knee.  I also got the jacket, simple and waist length to wear in the church.  Without the jacket, it appeared to be a one piece gown.

Funny, I was a size 6 skirt, 10 top and 8 jacket.  I think they may have weird sizing because I'm usually a 6 all the way. (although I was hoping that the size 10 top may have indicated some late growth in that area.  NOT
