doolans vs. The mill?

Hi ladies! I am recently engaged, and while we aren't looking to get married until june 2013, i am trying to track down a venue. We looked at the mill and loved it- except we were hoping for a hotel to avoid the whole shuttling back and forth.

We were also interested in doolans. We haven't looked at the place yet but i've been seeing some pretty disappoint reviews on here =(

Has anyone been to an event in either one of these places? With doolans i know they renovated so has anyone been there within the past few months or so? Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thank you guys!

I am getting married at the Mill in a few weeks. Amy and Don have been great and super helpful with everything. I love the food and they gave us a great deal. I really feel like I am getting money's worth there. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

I have never been to Doolans. I would go see all the places you like and go from there. You have plenty of time to decide. I would look at weddingwire.com for reviews too.

I went to 2 weddings at the Mill and I enjoyed both of them.  The food was good and the place is very pretty. I actually looked at Doolans myself for my wedding and the renovations that they have done are good but I still think it needs more work.  I did consider it because the package I was being offered was good but, It was just a little to dark and old feeling for me.  I recommend that you check it out though because you never know if you're going to like something until you see it in person.   I was looking for something connected to or inside of a hotel as well since I have a lot of out of town guests.  I ended up going with the Versailles Ballroom in Toms River which is inside the Ramada.  I don't know if you're looking to stay in the Spring Lake area but if not it's definitely worth checking out.

I've heard great things about the Mill, so if you are torn between that and Doolans go with the Mill hands down.

Doolans is disgusting. I visited pre renovations, but a few coats of paint will not make that place decent. The owner is rude, the place was covered in bugs, and I got out of there as fast as possible. They need new management and an entirely new kitchen staff; which is such a shame since it is in a nice location.

We are getting married at the Crystal Point Yacht Club next June. There is a hotel across the parking lot so you will not need a shuttle. I highly suggest visiting it, the prices are much more reasonable than I had thought and it is so beautiful. They also recently installed uplighting into the ballrooms which you can use for free instead of paying $800+ to a DJ for it.

I'm getting married at The Mill in less than 2 weeks! I have not been to Doolan's but I have passed it many times and it doesn't look so great from the outside. The Mill is very modern and it's a beautiful location right on the lake. We also picked it because the food is excellent.
