What qualifies a bra as worn out? I have questions.

I'm a little shocked that you are all only keeping them 6 months.  That means you have nothing right now that was purchased before July/August 2011.  Really?  Are you wearing the same bra every day for 6 months or how does it wear out that quickly? 

Is the elastic giving out?  If so, are you putting them in the dryer?

Or do they quit doing their job?  Get dingy? Too many BBQ buffet stains?

    For me, they are considered worn out when the straps start to fall all of the time* or the underwire starts poking me.  Usually in the 6-8 month range.   But I'll still wear it long past that because I hate bra shopping.

    *yes, I know I can tighten the straps, but then that pulls up the back of the bra and hurts my back.


    ETA: I wash mine on the gentle cycle of my HE washer and line dry.

    Most of the time, the underwire either pops out of the lining or a clasp thingy breaks.  But for the last 2.5 years, I've been wearing nursing bras that are not of my normal bra quality.

    But I never have more than 3 bras at a time because I have never really been able to find a bra that I love.  I try different brands/styles/fits and just can't find the right bra for me.  Therefore, they wear really quickly.

    1. Yes, I only have like 3 bras I wear. So that wears them out really quick. It's hard to find ones that fit and when they are about $50 a pop, it really limits how many I can buy at a time.

    2. Worn out is defined as missing the underwire, broken clasps, stitching coming undone, or the fabric/lace falling apart.

    underwire poking out / snapping (usually around 6 months)
    elastic starting to give out  (9-12 months)

    i line dry mine and wash in cold water in a lingerie bag

    I still wear my worn-out ones, they just don't fit as well. Mine are all elastic-related. The bands wear out before I pop wires or anything like that, and the bra gets too big/needstoo much adjustment during the day.

    For me, it was a combination of weight loss and the elastic giving out. I am pretty sure I weighed about this much when I bought them (the lady asked if I have lost weight)....but I have gone up and down a little and then wear and tear and they were done.

    It has been at least a year....maybe more. I bought some in OK, but the original fitting was done before we moved. Everything is pre- post-OK anymore.

    Okay, so I only have 2 bras.  So that makes sense for me...if you have 14+.  That would deefinitely make the time longer.

    Yes.  2.  A nude and a black.  I currently have more sports bras than regular.  Ridicule can begin now.

    I also only have 2 bras.


    Well, technically I still have some other bras in a drawer. But I don't think I've worn any of them in a few years. They almost definitely don't come close to fitting anymore.

    I also rarely wash them, because, you know, I'm always wearing one on laundry day, and I line dry, so I'm always paranoid about needing one and having it still be wet.

    I am careful to switch them every day to help preserve the elastic. I read somewhere that you should give bras at least 24 hours between wearings to let the elastic recover. No idea if that's true or not, but whatev.

    I did have 3 in this rotation, but the underwire popped out of one of them within maybe 6 months? So now I'm down to 2. 

    We'll see what happens with the ones I purchased last week.

    The lady said not to wear the same bra two days in a row, but you could wear the same model...so yes, let that sucker rest.

    She also recommended going to a 32, on the biggest setting, rather than a 34 on the tightest, so I can make it smaller as the elastic gives.

    WHY DIDN'T ANYONE EVER TELL ME THIS BEFORE!!??!!
