What's your wedding theme?

Mine is natural/woodsy. My colors are green, brown, and ivory. It's going to be at a lodge on a lake and we are having BBQ. I made table numbers by painting rocks, my mom is doing the flowers with many of the flowers from our gardens. Our cake topper is two turtles http://www.jwcaketops.com/animals/turtle.htm, and the cake stand is going to be made out of a log with our initials carved in. I got this for our card box: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=43533278. My mom likes to make fun of me, saying it is a swamp theme, or Shrek theme!

Re: What's your wedding theme?

  • Oh so cute! I love it! Your wedding sounds wonderful and those turtles are super cute!

Ours is at a vineyard so it's a wine theme...wine bottles with corks will have the name of wineries that we have visited together, there will be wine corks glued together and tied with a ribbon around them in our colors holding a picture of us at that winery, there will be the same wine cork holder holding a brief story about us at that winery aka was it a bike trip that we stopped at the winery, a winery where we had our first date etc. We will also have another wine bottle on each table with the food courses and then a 3rd bottle with the bar menu on it. :) No flowers for us...just wine corks and bottles with a square mirror and votives.

My mom is making our sheet cakes for us at her bakery and we will have just a small round simple cake for the cake cutting.

We're doing a guestbook by taking pictures of the guests and having wedding ad libs and a message card on a scrapbook sheet that they will then sign and write on.

Our colors are chocolate brown, lavedar and ivory.

Seriously, I think the closest we came to a wedding theme was decorating with light.  Instead of having flower centerpieces at the reception, we had candles.  We also had uplighting on the walls, and 127 paper lanterns.  Since our reception venue had black walls and no windows, the lighting effects were really striking.

[QUOTE]Our themes were "wedding" and "cheap". Seriously though, we didn't have a theme, since themes tend to be either literal or a misinterpretation of the word, imo.  But we did strive for a casual country feel and we incorporated some irish and celtic traditions into it.

<div>Ha, yes.  My theme is also 'wedding'! I don't have a theme so to speak.  I didn't want to feel restricted in any way.  We are having a band and alcohol and lots of food.  </div>
  • I wouldn't say that I really have a theme.  I'm getting married a week before Christmas, so they'll our reception location would already be decorated for the holidays.  But we're not playing up Christmas as a theme.  My colors are eggplant and ivory with gold accents.

  • We also don't really have a theme. Our center pieces are filled with turqoise sand and will have white candles in them. People around here don't go for looks very much. They just come to weddings for food, drinks, and a good time!

Our theme is birds.  FI's parents are both ornithologists!  We have a bird motif on the stationary, and marzipan birds on the cake.  Our cake topper:

I'm trying not to go overboard with it :)
  • Our theme is "He gives me butterflies" and our colors are gold and light pink with cream accents. We didn't go overboard with the butterflies, but we'll have floating butterfly candles in the centerpieces, butterfly luminaries at the outdoor cocktail hour, our signature drink is a "Butterfly Kiss", and there's a tiny gold butterfly on our invitations.

  • We'll be going the route of the Southern garden party, but it will be a loose interpretation.  We're doing a small DW in Savannah, Ga and just a dinner in a nice restaurant afterwards.  When we get home, we're doing a brunch that will have lots of flowers, paper flower escort cards displayed on a bed of wheat grass, and DIY topiaries.  I'm borrowing a 6' tall wrought iron "room divider" type of thing to display pictures and will drape spanish moss around the edges.  Ideally, I'd love to find a tabletop fountain or gazebo but so far, those are WAY out of our budget.
  • Our theme was wedding, party, and alcohol.  I never really had the energy or inclination to think of a theme and then book/create everything around that theme.

In terms of wedding, party, and alcohol, it was great.
  • Travel theme. It's a destination wedding to Yosemite. FI and I love to travel and have been lots of great places, so we're having a strand of twine with clothespins hanging photos of all of our travels, right over our framed picture that will be our guest book for people to sign. Our STD's were postcards. I'm trying not to take the theme too overboard, centerpieces will just be cute little baskets with green apples for people to take and eat while hiking.
We're just two lost souls swimmin' in a fish bowl, year after year
  • i do not really have a theme, but the overall feel is rustic/garden/farm.  mason jars, old vintage lanterns and vaces, burlap fabric, sunflowers, and haybales for decorations.
  • Our "theme" is a Spanish Wedding
The colors are Aqua, Teal & Dark Red

  • Our theme was "We're getting married". But I was a total slacker bride like that.

  • Our theme was "we're getting married" and "free booze."

We got married and had an open bar.  It was fun.

Why do people get so upset over the word "theme"? It's beyond ridiculous. If you don't like the word "theme", substitute the words "vibe", "motif", etc which all mean the same thing and are somehow not offensive to most. Everything from colors to flowers to your favorite things are themes. Unless a wedding truly is randomly thrown together with no cohesion at all, everyone has a theme. Get over it.

    That said, we're having a fall/Halloween/gothic theme.

  • I'm doing a natural Kansas theme with some WIzard of Oz.  Got to play up the home state!  Colors are blue and yellow, main flower is the sunflower, we're putting wheat in the bouquets, and I'm wearing red shoes.  The only thing missing the Wizard and I'm working on that ;)

Too bad you don't live in Indianapolis. You could have gotten married in the Butterfly Garden at the zoo.

  • I was afraid of the "theme" idea, but I like Lasairiona's 'vibe' word.  =)

Our vibe would have to be Summer/Outdoor/Light & Airy/ Clean/ Sparkly/ Open Bar/ wonderful DJ

Our venue is a beautifully restored historical home with an outdoor gazebo with cobblestone walkway for the ceremony, and a huge restored white barn for the reception.

The paved walkways will be lined with hundreds of white paper bags lit with candles.

Our tables have cracked glass vases with light blue hydrangeas and curly willow with small hanging paper lanterns, matching cracked glass candle holders, and ice blue candle holders that match the paper lanterns, all on white linen.  We will have 100 lit ice blue paper lanterns hanging from the exposed wood beam ceilings.

I am folding hundreds of white paper cranes to hang as the backdrop for our ice blue wedding cake.

We will have a candy station with all blue and white candy in different sized and shaped glass jars and bowls.

And a fully stocked open bar thanks to my in-laws

I wonder if 'subtle asain' could be my theme?  No one in any of our families are asain, so it makes me feel like a poser, but we do have paper cranes, paper lanterns, and paper fans for our outdoor ceremony.
  • I'm kind of hooked on a wheat/harvest/abundance thing.  I might carry a wheat bouquet, have cranberries as a wedding topper, and include little wheat designs on my invitations.  I'm trying not to let it run away with me.  It's sort of starting to feel like an ancient fertility rite.  Probably going to get pregnant that night.
  • I'm shooting for, what my fiance and I are calling, Surf & Turf.  It's beach meets country.  Super representative of both of us seeing as we have a love of the ocean, surfing and all things beach as well as a love for things that are very country/cowboy/traditional.  It's very exciting but I think it's going to be a bit harder than I thought to combine these different themes.  We shall see; we definitely have time to figure it all out... for cheap, too!
