Which is cheaper....

..... a cake or cupcakes? Granted I know it depends on the flavor & how many people. I'm hoping (keeping my fingers crossed here) that we have 50 people. I figure if we set on cake then I'll have it done at a bakery but if we do cupcakes then my mother & I will make them. Plus if we do the cupcakes, I'll be able to have different flavors. Which would be cheaper? Thanks!

If you plan on making the cupcakes, they will for sure be cheaper.  If you going to buy the cupcakes from a bakery, then it depends on the bakery, flavors, fillings, # needed...

also factor in decorating cost...One cake is cheaper to decorate than 100 cupcakes.

I disagree with Magdala9 about decorating cost being more for 1 cake than 100 cupcakes.  You will use around the same amount of batter and icing for either idea.  Now, if you are making sugar flowers or some other type of decoration then the cost for make 100 (one per cupcake) vs. 30 for the cake could make a difference.

If you go with the cupcakes, check with your venue. Many venues have rules disallowing food made in an unlicensed kitchen to be served for liability reasons.

Don't forget about the cost to cut the cake.  Usually that adds about $1 per slice.
