Is there anything that's too big/expensive for a registry (like rude to ask for or something). Such as washer/dryer (laundry) or a good mattress (like TempurPedic) instead of just a mattress pad? I think a good mattress pad might be good enough on the regular mattress but I'd prefer a whole nice mattress or at least a new regular one, cause we both have sleeping problems anyway and DF has an old mattress from a friend, and he has an old washing machine he bought from someone but no dryer. He just bought a house last year after always living in apartments and hasn't gotten all the basic stuff yet.

In response to the "too expensive" question? I would see if there is a way you could put an item on a registry and split it into chunks of $50.00 purchases. That way you could have people go in on it and you would be notified how many "items" they purchased. I think that can be done....good luck!

my friend registered for a few big items, one being a couch. she just had people contribute as much money as they wanted towards her final purchase. she knew no one would actually purchase the entire couch for her, but this was a nice option instead of gift cards. this was all done at the bay and up to your first anniversary you get a discount on things you put on your registry that people didn't purchase!

Yes, once I asked friends where they were registered and they told me and then said "Don't worry about the furniture. We know it's too expensive-- we just registered it because if we don't get it we get a percentage off, and since we had to buy it anyway we figured, why not?"

Since we are getting married in June, we registered WAY early. I mean, we registered in October... our rationale was that my parents are horrible gift buyers and if they had a registry to choose from it would make it a bit easier. Also, I we moved into our first home in September so many people were asking us what they could buy us... problem solved.

Thanks for the great list! I would add KitchenAid mixer and electric fondue pot to this list. I simply can't wait to register for those :-). One thing to keep in mind is that if you register early, keep checking your list to remove/change things that have been discontinued. I've run into that with a number of friends' weddings.
