NWR: No good deed goes unpunished!

So tonight, DH and I were off to drop a car off at the airport so BIL and SIL would drive my car.

We got 1.5 miles from the airport and DH got not one but TWO FLAT TIRES!

So now, instead of leaving my car at the airport, I played, "Follow the tow truck driver."

No good deed goes unpunished! Yell

  • Oh you have no idea!

And if you saw my post on P&E (back when it was P&E), you'd see that their visit isn't without family drama either.

I'll link it if you'd like.
  • Wow, I hope your weekend gets better. Ill have to look for the post on P&E.

  • Link LInk!

I don't know what it is with flat tires, but I got a nasty one on Fri and since my car is AWD, I had to buy a whole new set of tires.

  • Blackfire, did I mention that DH's car is a 10 year old Audi A4 Quattro?

Yeah, let's see how much this costs....and we were thinking of selling it in a few months.
  • At least now you can advertise "NEW TIRES!!!"

    LOL!

I also joked, "Do you think MIL cursed all of us?"

SIL and BIL also had bad days.
  • Ah,I remember that post. I just didn't remember it was you. We have drama too, but its because of a very expensive last minute change of plans. Nothing like this though. Im sorry! Have a glass of wine and take a deep breath or two. You will get through it.

  • Think of it as a positive- newer tires can be listed as a feature on a used car listing.  I know my dad will negotiate a few hundred off the price if he's buying a car with tires that need to be replaced soon.  So maybe you'll recoup some of your losses in a way.

  • Holy crow, what the hell did you drive over to get two flat tires at the same time?!

Oh, and speaking of AWD & having to replace all the tires at once, funny aside:  H bought a new (used) Jeep a few weeks ago.  It was absolutely fine... until it started to rain and he went to put it in 4WD, for kicks, after the purchase, of course.  This was about an hour after we got it home.  Well, the damned thing started to drive like it had square tires, lurching & jerking all over the road.  He tried to put it back in 2WD, but it didn't help.  We called the dealer, who came and had it towed (on his dime) to his mechanic.  His mechanic said it was the transfer case, minimum $700.  Oh great.  Well, dealer credited us $300, so we decided to have my mechanic check it out.  I brought it over, and he called us to come talk to him.  I thought that meant it was really bad.  He had us stand next to the Jeep & look at it, and all of a sudden, H blurts, "Son of a b!tch!"  Would you believe, some twit put two different size tires on the damned thing, bigger in the back, smaller in the front?!  That may be fine on a Corvette, but not so much on a 4WD Jeep.  LOL  So all we needed were 2 new tires.  If we'd listened to the dealer's idiot mechanic, of course, we'd have shelled out $700 to fix something that was perfectly fine, driven off still with 2 different size tires, and eventually shredded the tranny to the tune of a few thousand.
  • Larissa,  husband did one of the things I'd never guess he'd do - He drove over the edge of an island.

It was raining, dark out and the island wasn't painted a color any different than the road.  I was right behind him and saw him do it ....and it could have been me!

Oh, and did I mention that he just changed the front breaks on that car SATURDAY??

  • Of COURSE he just replaced the brakes!  That's why something had to happen.  Good  grief.  Too bad sovereign immunity applies.  It'd be nice to get the town/county/state to pay for the car repairs due to their complete and utter idiocy in painting the island the same color as the road.
  • Wouldn't it be great if we could say that?

Yeah, that one would probably not win in court even though it was absolutely stupid to leave it the same color as the road so you can't see it when it's dark and raining.

DH drove by there today and noticed that at least he's not the only one who did it.

And the car is back and along with two new tires, it's working well!
  • I'm glad there wasn't additional damage!  A friend of mine drove up a curb back when we first got our licenses, when it was dark & raining and the road curved but she didn't... and ended up tearing up the whole undercarriage of the car.

But yeah, I don't figure CT will let you sue; there probably isn't enough damage to meet the standards to sue a government entity, though I don't know CT law in particular.
