hair/makeup challenge number 2! (1960s bouffant)

Past challenges:
Challenge 1 (1940s pinup)

Challenge date: March 5th - 19th

Ok ladies, get out your hairspray and fine-toothed combs!!  Let's get this second challenge started.  This time I thought we'd jump ahead a couple decades and attempt the 1960s bouffant!   As always, I could use your help, too!  If you see something great online, post it!  We want easy tutorials, or difficult ones for those who want a real challenge.

You can start posting pics whenever you want.

Here is the current list of bouffant/beehive 1960s tutorials (that I will continue to add to).

  • This is great because the bouffant is how I am styling my hair. I'll post a pic in a few.
  • Bam! I did it! I totally had no expectations when I started trying this out at 4 in the am, but! Surpise, surprise! I actually managed to pull it off! No hairspray or ratting, I took a shower earlier tonight and have super thick and poofy hair and it worked out GREAT for covering the....drumroll, please....saran wrap ball I put in my hair! LOL!

Here ya go. (Defnitely a LOT easier than the victory rolls I tried 4x!)

    And one with the glasses

55 hairpins and no product later and I'm seriously considering just wearing this around on a Friday night! :D

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!  Saran wrap!  That's hilarious!  That totally wins over my idea for a ball of fishnet stockings.

I didn't want to be the first to post this time, so I'm going to get started this weekend now.  Until then... here's one last inspiration photo.

  • Tina - you look great! you're lucky to have such thick hair!

I'm afraid to try this one!  I think my hair isn't nearly thick enough :(  I'm still hooked on victory rolls, though -- I wear them whenever I can!

  • im sad to say i tried this hairdo-challenge tonight and i failed miserably. then again, i only had two bobbypins and i hadnt brushed my hair today (wore it wavy) so it was full of knots and i only had a big comb that couldnt get through any of my hair. therefore, it looked like i had a birdsnest on top of my head.

    no photographic evidence.

better luck next challenge. i havent unpacked all of my makeup yet so i cant do the makeup either. lol

  • Yesssss, Tina!!!! It looks great!!! I bought a funny bouffant comb and tried but it was pathetic. I was thinking I'd have to roll a pair of undies up to shove under there (kidding)! Perhaps I'll try your idea! Your makeup looks great too!

  • tina you look fabulous! i dont think this will work for my very fine hair, but i am going to give it a go this weekend, soon as i buy some good hairspray and a rat tail comb for teasing.

alright I gave it a shot.  It was actually about 50X easier than I thought it would be.  It took about 10 minutes, and almost no hairspray!  Just lots of bobby pins.

    HAIR
side ponytail.  I hairsprayed everything first.  Then I used the difficult tutorial for long hair and put a ball of stockings in my hair, secured with lots of bobypins.  I shoved a black bow over the back to hide some of them.

    front: (side ponytail)

side: (I didn't have a big thick scarf or hairband, so I used a braided piece of my hair)

back: (sorry I don't have a better picture)

    MAKEUP

I worked thick eyeliner from far onto the inside corners of my eyes (almost onto my nose) and drew thick wings way out.  Also I kept my lips nude.  I didn't do much else, and probably should have.  You get the idea anyway.

OK so i gave it a try this afternoon while at FH's house w nothing to do on this chilly sunday afternoon lol
Limited resources, so not my best attempt.
Its alot of backcombing w a rat tail comb and hairspray, I didnt put anything under the hair. I went to beauty school a few years ago and dropped out (yeah I am a beauty school dropout, just like in Grease haha). So I have some experience w backcombing, the little old ladies loved it for their roller sets :)
For makeup, I did a Edie Sedgwick look. Nude face w some shimmer on the cheekbones, thick black eyeliner winged at the edges, nude lipsfilled in with nude lipliner and finished w some pearly gloss.

  • I love the mod look sooo much but this was trial #1 & it didn't work out so great for me...

So I just bouffed up the front (I used a rolled up piece of tulle) and played with makeup...

You other Knotties did such a great job! I am jealous :)

  • you ladies look so good! i wish my hair worked for this but my part is so prominent that my hair just kept separating when i tried to poof it - no matter how much hairsray i used :P
