I get what people are saying about parties being fun with your coworkers when they're your age.  Most of mine are, but I'm already "outside of work" friends with the ones I like, so we hang out regularly anyway.

Besides my beer pong partner who is 29, Every single person I work with is 15-30 years older than me. They are big kids. I probably also get along well with them though because my own sisters are 15 and 17 years older than me so I grew up being best friends with people older than me my whole life.

What does your company do for your holiday work party? We have a potluck type thing for lunch. They do a raffle and give out a bunch of gifts, so are really nice, some are really cheesy filler gifts.

What does FI/SO/H's company do? They take employees and spouses out to a local dinner theater. This is his first year with the company so we haven't been to one yet.  They do cover all food and drinks.

Are they dressy or casual? Mine is casual, actually the week of Christmas we're allowed to wear jammies (appropriate of course) if we pay $5 for the week.  We take the money raised and buys gifts for the kids at the local homeless shelter. FI will be dressy, the theater has a strict dress code.

Embarassing moments/memories from office parties of yore? At my old job the owner got shitfaced and started bad mouthing past employees.  It was a pretty small company so we all knew each other well. He was calling them cvnts and motherfuckers.  It was pretty awkward because most of us were still friends with the people that had left.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties? I kind of wish that my current company would do more, but then again I don't like most of the people I work with so I don't care.  We have a dessert contest that I'm the reigning champ for the past 5 years.  I'm going to rock that shiit again this year ;)

Also, it helps if they're cool, like yours.  The people at my job who I'm not already friends with suck ass :P.

What does your company do for your holiday work party? There's usually something at the main site in NY state, but I try to avoid that one, I haven't heard anything about it this year, maybe we're not having it. We have a seperate one just for the finance department, it's a free luncheon at a nice banquet hall with cocktail hour, dinner style lunch, open bar. We give out some silly awards, mostly just socialize and eat/drink. It's nice. I

What does FI/SO/H's company do? They have a huge party with prizes and what not at a hotel ballroom. It's open bar, but they have to pay like $10 or $20 for tickets which is understandable since over 2,000 people are there.

Are they dressy or casual? business casual, but some people get dressed up.

Embarrassing moments/memories from office parties of yore? Wasn't an "office" party, but a work party waaay back when I was barista with a good friend of mine. We were unsober when we showed up, and everyone knew, it was a little embarrassing. But mostly they just all messed with us and thought it was funny.

FI works at the same company as her brother. Two years ago he got hammered at the party and started saying crazy stuff in front of her coworkers like "see that guy over there - he's a huge vag!" or "I'm like a porno star".  It was totally out of character for him and she was so embarrassed lol.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties? That FI and I were allowed to bring dates to ours. Well really that she was allowed to b/c hers sounds like lots of fun!

What does your company do for your holiday work party?
I have to attend 7 parties for work this year. A couple of them are restaurant dinners, the others are buffet style with a DJ etc.

    What does FI/SO/H's company do?
He doesn't even get one. (He will come to one of mine though.)

    Are they dressy or casual?
One is dressy, one is casual, the others are business casual.

Embarassing moments/memories from office parties of yore?
None that I have done, but last year my friend leaned over her steak and accidentally dipped her boob in the sauce on her plate. She was wearing a white sweater.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties?
Nothing. They are always awesome and fun.

Honestly, it's a little exhausting. After the last one, I'm always very ready for them to be over.

What does your company do for your holiday work party? We have a party around lunch time with a dessert contest, door prizes, games, etc. I don't know details because I've only been here 6 months.

What does FI/SO/H's company do? His company has a party at his bosses house, but SO's aren't invited. Lame.

Are they dressy or casual? Well, whatever we wear to work. I work in the office so I'll probably wear something Christmas-y. OR my obnoxious tacky Christmas sweater.

Embarassing moments/memories from office parties of yore? N/A. Never been to a work holiday party.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties? I wouldn't really know. I guess it would be cool to have cocktails. Who knows, maybe we will? At least I'd be extra friendly to clients calling in bahaha

The owners either rent out another club for us, or let us use our club during the week.  We get to eat and drink for free.

    What does FI/SO/H's company do?
Same thing.  Except the owner takes the managers out for a really swanky dinner and I have to go with H.

    Are they dressy or casual?
Dressy, however the skanky cocktail waitresses usually slut it up real nice with homemade Christmas outfits that resemble a pathetic attempt at Fredericks of Hollywood stuff.  Then they get wasted and hang all over the owners/managers.

Embarrassing moments/memories from office parties of yore?
3 years ago at the work party (when I worked for H) I was nervous since we were secretly dating and got wasted.  I came home and went to turn off the xmas tree lights.  Except I tripped on my high heels, fell into the tree and took it down with me.  Not my most graceful moment.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties?
Not much.  Bartenders know how to party.

What does your company do for your holiday work party?  In past years we had a party at the Rainbow Room in NYC for the entire company.  Because of the recession, starting last year it's on company property.  Open bar, unlimited food.  It's a good time.  It's employees only.

What does FI/SO/H's company do? Cocktail hour for employees.

Are they dressy or casual? About half the women go all out and wear cocktail dresses and the other half wear whatever they wore to work (suit or bus. casual).  I usually try to wear a cuter suit or colorful shirt or something.  Guys just wear what they wore to work (suit or bus. casual).

Embarassing moments/memories from office parties of yore? The typical people getting wasted and sleeping with inapproriate people.  One year a guy who had just started puked everywhere, and I think someone from security had to actually ride with him home.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties? I wish you could bring a guest.

What does your company do for your holiday work party?
I work at a group home, which means there's never a time that we can "close down" for the evening to have all staff attend a party.  We do have a secret santa going, but only 5 of the 20 employees have signed up, because they're all scrooges.  I think we just exchange on our own time.

    What does FI/SO/H's company do?
Nothing, but I wish they would. They're awesome.  The only holidays they celebrate through the company are Labor Day and some Jewish holiday that I can't remember.

    Are they dressy or casual?
N/A. I tend to overdress for any occasion because I love to be dressed up, but wearing a dress to work so that I can be elegant while I help a 50-year-old man take a shower and change adult diapers just doesn't seem prudent.

Embarassing moments/memories from office parties of yore?
I worked at a restaurant a couple years ago, run by a Sicilian man.  His younger brother, he's about 40, asked me if he could get me anything to eat from the appetizer table.  I said, "No thanks, there's nothing without meat it in and I'm a vegetarian." He said, "Oh, so you're like Mary Moon?" I said I didn't know what that meant. He said "She's a vegetarian. She don't eat meat, but she sure likes the bone," then grabbed my butt. This is apparently a song reference. It was really... blush-inducing.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties?
I would like to HAVE one. I know they can be lame, but I would like to experience the lameness.

What does your company do for your holiday work party?

We go out to a good overpriced restaurant for lunch, eat a lot, and leave for the day right afterwards.

    What does FI/SO/H's company do?
Nothing official-but he generally takes all "his" guys out for drinks.

    Are they dressy or casual?
Whatever we wore to work so business dressy.

Embarassing moments/memories from office parties of yore?
One idiot who is no longer with us complaining about everything-service, price, and on and on. She even returned food for no apparent reason. Contrary to popular belief, that type usually does not do well at a firm - Attorneys are a well mannered bunch, generally speaking. At least on a social level.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties?
    Nothing really. I like them.

    edited for typo.

[QUOTE]What does your company do for your holiday work party?  We rent out a local sports stadium, hire celebrity entertainment and give away ridiculous amounts of money in charitable donations and cash prizes.  It's decadent and overdone, but a hell of a lot of fun.  What does FI/SO/H's company do?   FI works at a bank.  Several local branches get together and have a catered dinner at a restaurant or hotel somewhere.  I'm a little fuzzy on the details since I've never gotten to go.  Are they dressy or casual?   Ours is formal; his is semi-formal. Embarrassing moments/memories from office parties of yore?  I've only been with my company 13 months, and last year I knew exactly no one... ask me again in a week and a day and I may have tales to tell! One thing you would change about office holiday parties?   Warmer, please!  Even in Phoenix, a night-time party out of doors gets cold!  I'm shivering just thinking about it.

What does your company do for your holiday work party? At my office, various departments do their own separate off-site parties, and then there's a big floor-wide potlucka and cube decorating contest. My department is very small, and the big boss usually takes us out for lunch, but I haven't gotten a meeting notice for it yet, so we'll see

What does FI/SO/H's company do? Nothing

Are they dressy or casual? Off-sites are usually casual.

Embarassing moments/memories from office parties of yore? Ugh, I feel so bad. I was invited to a group's off-site last year. We all got together at a person's house, ate, drank, exchanged white elephants and then decided to meet up at the dog racing park with our SOs. DH came after work and I walked right by him and didn't even see him. He was so hurt, and I felt awful. In my defense, I thought he wouldn't be there for another half hour, so I didn't expect to see him, so I wasn't looking for him. Still, I suck.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties? If it were up to me, we'd assign groups things to bring for the floor-wide lunch potluck. Everyone always brings desserts or fruit salad and we end up eating cheesecake and cookies for lunch. Which isn't entirely bad, but there are some of us who don't want to just eat junk and end up buying from the cafeteria anyway, which is completely the opposite of the point of a lunch potluck.

What does your company do for your holiday work party? I haven't attended one for my current job. Normally they are at a restaurant and you are not allowed to bring spouses and I'm not a big solo person so I skip. The restaurant is always over an hour from my house too, which is discouraging.
My first two years at PSmart we all went bowling which was awesome. Associates got to smack talk managers about bowling skills and a lot of tension was released so work was more fun the rest of the year. Now they've decided to just give each store a Christmas Ham, sides, and 2L bottle of Coke. Good idea, except the work day is spread from 4am until 10pm so someone doesn't get food throughout the day. Plus someone has to actually cook the darn things because we only have microwaves at the stores.

What does FI/SO/H's company do? He's at Psmart :) His new store might do something more fun though because they are a smaller/more friendly group of people.

Are they dressy or casual? Casual or in retail uniform

Embarassing moments/memories from office parties of yore? Nada. It was fun the first Christmas that H and I were dating and we showed up holding hands. Holy shrieking from the people I hadn't told.

One thing you would change about office holiday parties? I feel like I've never been to a real one :(
