A fun idea?

So with all the family drama, I'm trying to focus on the fun stuff!

Cutting the cake is one of the few wedding traditions that I really like and I love how wedding cakes look.  But I always go to weddings and a lot of people don't even eat the cake.  People spend so much money on a cake that nobody eats!

I was looking at the caterering menue and they have a really reasonably priced option of having a cake table that includes 4 different kinds of cake and 2 different pies.  It would end up being the same price either way.  What do you guys think about having a small wedding cake to cut and be added to the table with other cakes?

I know how you feel about everyone not eating cake... We are thinking about having a cake to cut for the photos and what not but then have an assortment of cupcakes for the guest.

We are also thinking of having one small cake to cut and then different types of cupcakes for everyone. I like the idea of being able to offer different flavors and what not because not everyone likes "wedding cake". And (in my opinion) cupcakes are more fun anyways!

I'm personally not a huge fan of cake, so I definitely like variety.

We're thinking of having a donut bar along with assorted desserts. FI really likes the idea of possibly having pie :-)

I think an assortment is always a good idea!

I LOVE cake, but in addition to our (smallish) wedding cake, we're having a cupcake grooms cake, cookies, brownies, and other various bars. I think a mix is a great idea because as much as I love cake, other people don't have as strong of feelings for it.

I love assortments! We are only having a cake because it comes with our wedding package. But we are going to have a "sweets" table where there are going cute little desserts.

We are having a traditional cake...my FI and I have such sweet tooths (mostly me) that we couldn't wait to get a cake.  Also, my family is a big fan of cake in general (every family event, my family members will bring aluminum foil or some sort of baggy to bring some home with them!).  We're also having a cookie table as it is a big Pittsburgh tradition.

We're doing a dessert table with cakes, pies, etc. plus a small cake to for the cutting ceremony part. My cousin did this and just brought the cake home and served it at a brunch the next day!
