NWR/NER---Christmas Cards

Hey Ladies,
I'm asking on this board because it is always very active :)

I'm doing picture Christmas cards for the first time and over the summer FH and I moved in together and moved to a new apartment/town completely. When I was designing our cards, I didn't think to include on the card our new address as I have seen done in the past by friends/family. I was thinking of writing a little letter but not really sure what I'd include since we didn't go a big trip like we had done in years past. Plus the only major thing I want in the letter is that we moved and give out our new address. I was thinking of writing on the back of the cards something like, "We moved! Our new address is 1313 Mockingbird Lane, Milwaukee WI 33333" and just leaving it at that.

So my question is when you get Christmas cards, do you look on the back of picture cards or would an insert that is printed work better to let people know we moved? I have address labels made up with our just our first names and new address but I don't think everyone will realize that the address is different.

  • I think an insert is more likely to be universally noticed.  I know that I, personally, look at the picture cards to see if there is a personal note, but I sincerely doubt that everyone does this.  And keep it simple--the wording you suggested sounds fine.
  • I think a small printed insert is fine.

  • I agree with the insert- I never EVER look at the back of photo cards. I suggest getting some Avery business cards to print out and break up :)

  • I always look at the return address for updates, but I know not everyone does.

I would never think to look on the back of a card for anything, so I think an insert would make more sense. You could even write it in the card along with a holiday greeting.

Hallmark had those seriously sappy, but tear inducing, commercials where they would look on the back of the card to see if it was a Hallmark card. I always thought that was so awkward because that's where the price was. When you care enough to send the very best!

  • i agree. typing up business card sized inserts would be fairly easy.

FWIW  - hubby and I sent "we've married and moved!" cards since we did both in the span of 4 weeks (yikes).  Vistaprint had a really cute design for that and they were really cheap with free envelopes =)
  • I generally only look at return addresses to see who it's from and then only pay attention to the address if I know the sender has moved since I last mailed something to them. I've started paying attention to the backs of photo cards because I've noticed this year that most of my friends are putting Bible verses back there, it's possible they've been doing this all along though and this is the first I've noticed, but now I know to look.

Long story short I would include an insert of some kind.
