Password Protect not working

I am building a site and need some pages to be password protected. In "manage my website" I have clicked "visible on site" and "is protected" for the pages that I wish to have password protection. I have also typed in the password. When I use Firefox, I am prompted to type in the password. When I use IE9, I am not prompted to use the password and can see all the content on the pages that I am trying to password protect. Why is this happening? Can it be fixed? My design is "classic".
