Why are farm tables so expensive?

Maybe it's the area, I'm in Orlando, but of the 3 rental companies we've received quotes from farm tables cost $125-$200 to rent for the day. That seems a bit crazy.

We built our own farm table for our dining room (of similar size) from an Ana White plan and it cost just under $100 to build. I'd expect the quality of the rental to be a little higher in order to withstand multiple uses and handling damage but this price still seems exorbitant. With tax and delivery we're looking at nearly $3000 in tables. Yikes.

We may choose to go without the tables, I'm just curious if anyone know why these tables cost so much right now? Is it just a trendiness thing?

Farm tables are the trendiest fad right now, thats why they could be pricey, and supply and demand. Also they are heavy and might require more workers to deliver and set up.

This would be my guess. Heavier and harder to transport and store because they don't fold or fit ontop of each other well.

They are large, heavy, trendy, and designed to be used without table coverings so they need to look decent.

unlike banquet tables you can not fold them. That means they take up more space when it comes to storage and transportation. Setup requires more labor, as a normally banquet table can be carried by one person. Actually, depending on the person they can carry 2 at a time.

At work we have a banquet table cart. One person can load up 5 tables on the cart and move it to the location and setup on their own. Can't do that with a farm table.

We can store a bunch of banquet tables in a small space. Can't do that with farm tables.

More labor = more money. More storage space = more money. Bigger and/or more trucks to get the same amount of tables to you = more money.

It's not really surprising at all.

I guess so. I really wanted them, but yes, they are expensive to rent for the reasons Lynda mentions. Instead, I'm using 8 foot banquet tables butted up to each other to create 16' tables... with linens. They're nice because an entire group can sit at one table. Like, my mom and her entire family fit at one instead of having to split them up. 16 at a table made seating charts a hell of a lot easier too.
