Wedding Woes

Morning things

1. I left my ID in a pants pocket and I could not buy beer on Saturday at the store.  The cashier believed me that I was over 21 (I had my kids with me), but they had someone sell to someone underage in the last week, so they *have* to check no matter what.  Damn kids.  They ruin it for everyone.

2. My dad's childhood friend and 'confirmed bachelor' got engaged over the weekend to a lady he's been seeing for years (it was on and off for awhile, but has been 'on' for the last two or so years).  I don't know her very well, but my mom says she's really nice and really loves him.  He was my favorite 'uncle' growing up.  I'm uber-happy for them.

3. I'm really not ready for the ~1in of snow we're supposed to get this afternoon/evening.

4. I made my first online Christmas order this weekend.  I love this time of year when box after box shows up at the house.  Online Christmas shopping is teh ossum.

5.  When he's not being a royal PITA, DefConn is so much fun right now.  Last night, he had his own dance party to "What Does the Fox Say?" and "Scream and Shout."  His dancing is the best.  He also does somersaults.  I need to look into gymnastics for him.

Re: Morning things

  • Where is everyone?   Did you all have a rager of a weekend and sleep in?

  • Saturday I went on the annual shopping trip with the women in my family.  It was awesome. We had so much fun.  My sister told me she's been looking at rings with her boyfriend and we squeed about it on the drive.

Yesterday we didn't do much.  Got groceries and watched football.

Today is no school so we're all in our pjs.  I'm getting laundry caught up and trying to decide what I want to eat. I'm starving.

  • I'm in a funk. This week is going to be hell between work and personal life.

The weekend kind of sucked hardcore in preparation for this week.
  • I'm sorry to hear that Dixie, that is no fun at all.

Weekend was low key...rocked a good run on Saturday---fave route.  Bfast with the family, lunch with a friend, then tv by myself.  Loved it.

Sunday was grocery run, movie and shopping with H.  It was a really quick weekend.f

I'm excited for vacation, starting to think about packing.  Which will be interesting because I'm not checking a bag.  It will be a lot of cardigans and re-worn outfits.  Don't care.
  • I'm here with a burst of energy. This weekend was good. Saturday I got a bunch of chores done but paid for it when I was left so stiff I could barely move. Sunday we did a Costco run, then DH's family threw us a "baby shower". Honestly, I know I bitch about them but it was really sweet and we got a bunch of things that were needed. DH told me last night that I have dropped. I know that doesn't mean anything but I really need to stay pregnant until Friday.
  • I had my scope procedure on Friday, and everything looked normal. Waiting for the results this week. I will say that I understand why Big Mike got addicted to the good stuff to put you to sleep. I felt like I woke from the best nap ever.

I went shopping for some new work pants and tops for the cold weather coming this week.

  • I'm sorry Dixie :( *hugs*

MrsConn, you need to send your DH to get that beer, you silly 17 yo ;).

Weekend was kind of a blur. Got a lot of chores done over the weekend, packed away most of halloweenie. Managed an easy hike with DD. Still a lot to get done. Including that work I said I would be working on over the weekend. Oops.

  • We had a busy weekend.  The whole month of November is busy.
Friday, DD and I were on our own, so we rented a movie.  It was the new Barbie movie about magical ponies.  It was CRAP but DD loves the Barbie movies.  Ugh.  After DD went to bed, I watched "This is 40" which was hilarious and sad and touching and of course I cried because I cry at everything.  Some of it hit a little too close to home.
Saturday, we got up early and joined my nephews at a local historical working farm and performed the "morning chores".  It was a lot of fun, the kids were good and it was a gorgeous fall day.  I got to herd some sheep which was hilarious.  They are not the smartest group of animals...
Then we went shopping for a new winter coat for DD.  We went to Kohl's which was a huge mistake.  There were approximately 1 million people in Kohl's because apparently this is the week before Christmas and nobody told me.  WTF.  It wasn't like Kohl's was even having such a great sale, but there people were, waiting in lines about 40 people deep with their carts piled high with stuff.  I don't get it.
Sunday, we had a retirement party for my dad.  It was a lot of fun and I'm so happy for my dad.  He's worked for the same company for 35 years, and the last 3 or 4 years have been really awful as they've laid people off and his department has dwindled down to just a few people. I'm excited that he'll get to watch DD during the week, too.
  • This weekend was busy with preparation for this upcoming weekend's convention.  I'm getting excited and nervous, but I think our group's table is finally going to turn it out with our new banner, an awesome photo collage that the art group did that I adore, lots of flyers I designed, zines to sell, t-shirts to sell and other stuffs.  I suspect I'll be the main one there all the time, but I'm reminding myself that I'm helping to rebuild something and it's going to take some time.  This is going to be a marathon and I'm still in prep training.

Other than that, I didn't do anything else.  Today is DH's birthday, so we're going to a yummy dinner w/the folks tonight.
  • My parents left on Saturday, and my ILs arrived ~3 hours later. i spent a lot of the day making cupcakes.

Wolverine had her birthday party on Sunday. It was Hello Kitty themed, and we did it at a local gym. The kids had a blast and my coworkers benefitted - tons of leftover cupcakes.

I'm a little annoyed with the ILs for skipping out on the birthday party. Wolverine's actual birthday was the 4th, and I would have done the party while my parents were in town. I put it off for a week so that the ILs wouldn't feel all butthurt and left out for missing her actual birthday. (my parents were there on her birthday, so i figured this was a way to make things "fair"). FIL decided to sit at home on our couch and watch football - MIL wanted to "wrap christmas presents" for Wolverine. (Cause she wouldn't have had ample time to do that while Wolverine is in daycare today/tomorrow, or at night, or just leave the stuff for us to wrap.) I'm done trying to accommodate people. I think I'm planning something next November so we don't have people visiting back to back.

  • @piratebarbie - that's schitty.  I would be super pissed if I planned the party to accommodate them when your parents would have been happy to go to the party.  Junk punches to them.
  • Friday FIL and sMIL were supposed to come take the old kids to a movie.  Do to poor planning and construction they got here 15 mins before the start.  They asked if they could take them overnight and just do the movie Saturday.  Yes, yes you can.  We hung out and they took us to dinner.

Saturday DH cleaned the garage while I shopped (at Kohls).  Ours wasn't too busy and I knocked out 3 birthdays, 2 Christmas,  and 3 tops for me.  I also hit GFS for some sale stuff for Max's party.  We had Chinese for lunch and just hung out until they came

Sunday was church then a 4 yo bday.  My friend rented a bounce house and the kids had a ball.  DH is off today.  We had baked French toast for breakfast.  DH cut the grass and now we nap.

  • We went to the Tennessee Aquarium on Saturday and then saw Thor 2 yesterday. We also bought a new Lego set.

Today, I set up the installation of our new HVAC system. It's apparently going to take 3 days (jfc) and is costing us almost $12,000 due to having to replace the entire (moldy) ventilation system and convert the garage area into a climate-controlled part of the house. I guess it will be worth it or something idek. We've been without heat so far this fall though, so I'm REALLY looking forward to having heat again even though my personal tabletop heater god is awesome.

  • @thejucheidea - that's awful @ the HVAC system. *ouch* will you homeowners' insurance cover a -portion due to mold? When i put my hand through the bathroom wall last year (combo of cheap builders using regular sheet rock and 25 years of water seeping through grout), our insurance would have covered any mold remediation, if needed

(also, yay for Legos - what did you get?).
  • @PirateBarbie : Haven't checked into it, but we've already replaced the ductwork once less than three years ago, so I think we're just cursed? This time, however, we chose the person instead of the person from whom we purchased the house, and the company we're using did a fabulous job re-plumbing the house, so I trust them to do the job right. We're also doing a loan for it through TVA that is just added to our electric bill for the month, so at least there's no initial out of pocket expense?

And we got the Palace Cinema: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Palace-Cinema-10232
We already have the Fire Brigade, Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, Town Hall... actually all of the city collection. We're anxiously awaiting the Parisian Cafe set that's being released next year because we're ultra nerds.

Wow - this is really unusual.  I'd want to figure out the source of the problem before so this doesn't happen again.

  • This time we have a trusted contractor and a TVA inspector working on it. It's not as bad as the first time around (the ductwork under the house was actually broken apart and just kinda sucking wet air from the crawlspace -- there was also a dead possum under there, so it made for some horrendous smells), so I'm sure it'll be taken care of this time. My dad is also going to be there for the installation, and he's a licensed contractor, so I'm chill about the whole thing.
