So while picking up a few things (at the dollar store, because we're thrifty), my mom and I were trying to figure out if people put bathroom baskets in the men's room at weddings. My mom says  "I've never seen one" - and my response was "when were you in a men's room at a wedding?"

Anyway - did you do one?

If so, what did you include in it for the fellas? Same stuff as the women's basket (minus things like tampons, bobby pins, clear nail polish, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for the help!

ETA: and FI is no help. Even if there was one in the last few weddings we went to, I doubt he noticed and if he did, he doesn't remember.

Re: NER: Bathroom Basket in Men's Room?

  • I did one for my first wedding. We had combs, tissues, mouthwash and aftershave if I remember correctly.
  • My first wedding also had one.  It had a "shoe shine thing," combs, mints, Tylenol/ Advil, Shout wipes, and I think a mini first aid kit (the small Johnson & Johnson one with a few Band-Aids in it).  It might have also had a small sewing kit in case someone lost a button.

  • I hadnt even thought of this! Great ideas!
  • Tums are also a good idea, and I just remembered ours had a lint roller in it as well.

  • Follow up question - did people actually USE the items in either bathroom basket?
  • Yes. Our reception was in a big hotel suite, so there was only one bathroom, but we made a big basket with all kinds of stuff in it for men and women. Several people thanked us, as they used the headache medicine, Tums, bobby pins, etc. The basket was about 1/2 empty by the end of the night. I gave some of the leftover stuff to my mom, and then we packed the rest away for our honeymoon.
  • They sure did use the stuff.  Every item was opened, we ended up with about three Tylenol, a handful of mints, and the remnants of the sewing kits. I think the only stuff that didn't really go was the perfume/ cologne sample but I expected that and they were free samples so I tossed them in at the last minute.

We did a basket for the women's room and the men's room. For the men tylenol, tums, breath mints, mouthwash with cups, spray antiperspirant, bandaids, and those things you put on the backs of your heels if your shoes are rubbing, figured they might come in hand with everyone wearing dress shoes. I bought a bag of individually wrapped plaquers and divided up between the two baskets. For the lady's room: tampons, pads, baby wipes, tylenol, tums, dress shoe inserts, mouthwash and cups, spray antiperspirant, a cheap french manicure nail polish set for nails or runs in pantyhose, bandaids, breath mints, sewing kit, Hollywood tape, hand lotion. All items except tampons, pads, hollywood tape were bought at Dollar Tree Store and the 2 baskets cost less than $50 total.

We weren't going to bother with the baskets, figuring most adults pack whatever they need, but we're glad we did. Many items were taken from the baskets. My daughter took the leftovers home, so they didn't go to waste.

  • My mom and sister made them for our wedding. Almost everything was used by the end of the night! And everything that was left we have used up since. They had mints, gum, sewing stuff, sample cologne, headache medicine, condoms, hair gel, etc. I would ask your venue if there is anything you cannot have, we were told we could not bring in liquid mouthwash because of the alcohol content.

  • Follow up question - did people actually USE the items in either bathroom basket?
People DEFINITELY used it at mine. I put one in both bathrooms and got a ton of complements.

Actually, somebody stole all the stuff from the men's. it was empty at the end of the night which I found funny
  • I'm not going to bother with these. I've never really used them at a wedding and I think they're a waste of money.
To each their own. Are they needed? no, but I can tell you I received a ton of complements all night long as to the "tiny" touches that we added to the wedding due to this
  • I think it depends on the venue too.  A nice hotel has certain things available. My friends wedding was at a historic site. So we are talking public bathrooms, though they were only used by the guests as the area was closed off, it was still a basic public bathroom with paper towels and generic hand soap out of a dispenser.

So for a few dollars she supplied hand soap in a pump, paper hand towels, along with asprin, small spray antipersperant and gum. She went to the dollar store too. FYI, everything was used and appreciated.

  • I had never thought of this, seems like a great touch!  I'll keep this in mind!
  • At my first wedding I did these for both bathrooms. Pretty much all the usual items that were listed were included plus condoms. You know what they say about weddings.....
  • Love all these ideas, and I love little touches like this at weddings!

  • One wedding I went to didn't have a basket in the ladies room, and I DESPERATELY needed a tampon! I won't ever forget that, so definitely having a basket!
  • We had one in both bathrooms and I heard people used a lot of the stuff (so I was happy). Surprisingly, all we had left was some tampons and q-tips because people took most of the stuff. Which I didn't mind. We included in the men's basket:

    Hair combs
    Tissues
    Mini first aid kit
Mini deodorants (a few of them)
    Axe body spray
    Asprin
    Tums
    Listerine strips
Mini toothbrushes (they are really cool)
    Lint roller
    Nail kit
    Shout wipes
    Chapstick
    Q-tips
    Wet ones
    Hand sanitizer
    Gum
    Hair gel
    Sewing kit
    Mini mouth wash
    Lotion

The women's was pretty similar plus bobby pins, hair ties, tampons, panty liners, hair spray and body spray,
