I'm kind of wanting another tattoo

I think I want another tattoo anyway. I'm not sure what I want or if I really want one even. It could just be because I've been watching Best Ink all day.

Re: I'm kind of wanting another tattoo

  • I know how you feel.

I don't watch tattoo shows, 'cause I'm still kinda needle-phobic and get queasy watching others get inked - I even have to turn away when they do IVs and such in medical shows - but I've got a major jones for some ink to add to my collection.

I have a couple of ideas of what I want, I just need to decide what order I want them in. But I promised FI no new tattoos before the wedding. :(

  • I made the same promise to my FI! Which is funny because he has more than I do!
  • LOL Mine can't have tattoos (risk of infection), and I'm not sure he would want any. If he did it would be a dragon though, so I'm thinking I might get a teeny tiny dragon on my ankle after the wedding.

It's only because of finances that I'm not getting any before the wedding. He's not contributing to the wedding fund because he has other financial commitments he needs to meet, so I really can't afford to spend money on anything that isn't absolutely necessary at the moment.

  • Well I just finished this huge back piece, it took several sessions and cost a fortune. So my tattoo fund has been depleted until at least next year. Lol. Oddly enough I'm kind of wanting a pin up.
  • I've always wanted a tattoo but unfortunately have yet to get one. FI has several and is planning on more I'm sure.

You ladies should share pictures of your ink!
  • I've been wanting one too. The itch is back!
  • FI and I have appointments to get more ink on April 17th! I'm so excited. We went last year for our anniversary and we're going again this year for it as well. I've already got four and I'm adding on to a tattoo I had done on my upper arm last year. We're hopefully going to try and get one more appointment some time this summer before the wedding so I can get some more ink on my opposite arm.

@jdluvr06 I'd love to see your back piece!! Someday I'll move on to my back, right now my focus is my upper arms and then my sides.

Why is it odd that you want a pinup?

  • My artist is one of the best in my state so he books up 10 months out. He did my outer arm from shoulder to elbow in 2011. My appointment to do the whole inner arm is in a few weeks. I am soooooo pumped because I made the appointment way back in May so it's taken forever to get here and I love that it'll be done before my wedding. I love and respect my artist's work so much, I would never go to someone else just to get in quicker.

How exciting! The artist we're going to see is pretty popular too. He only takes appointments four times a year and only has the phone line open for 3 hours each of those four days and fills up three months worth of appointments in that time, plus a waiting list. FI's parents have been going to him for years and years and he's amazing. He just took appointments again on February 1st and FI had his mom and dad hit redial for almost 2 hours before they got through. All four of us are going on the same day. I'm so excited!
  • @ckel24 Nice, sounds like a great artist!! I just don't understand the people who go to hackjobs when it's going to be there forever!

@prettybirdy27 I try to get items that I know will never change. For example I have the initials of my dad, mom, brother, nephew because really whatever they do in life short of murder I will love them lol.

Contradicting myself from previous sentence, I have gotten things I'm not super in love with anymore. When I was 18 I got my own name as a tramp stamp...while I still love myself and my name it's one of those things that I'm like eh I could live without it but it's not a big deal. Plus laser isn't the only option, there are amazing cover up artists. I'd much rather live with regret of doing things than the regret of never doing them.

@shrekspeare You will love color, it's amazing. My whole arm is insanely bright aqua, pink, purple, orange, green. In the summer when I wear short sleeves I literally get complimented by strangers DAILY. Grocery store, walmart, restaurants, young people, old people, badass motorcycle people. It never gets old :) I can't stand when people say "what about in your wedding dress". What about it?? I'm going to take pics from the side on purpose because it's gorgeous art!

  • I've got a couple that I'm not super fond of but one is always covered and the other one I'm going to have covered up when I get more ink this summer. It's a VERY basic, black script tattoo that I'm going to have covered up with flowers in every color I can! I have a sailor jerry-esque tattoo of a ship, waves and an anchor on my left arm and I'm adding this huge, retro looking marlin to it in April. I've gotten so many compliments and questions about it; I love showing it off. And I can't wait to get the flowers done on my other arm before the wedding so I can rock them in my wedding dress. FI has a half sleeve on his lower left arm and I'm very tempted to have him do the rolled up sleeves look for our wedding so his can be in the pictures too!

  • @ckel24: Funny, I have an anchor on my right forearm with script around it. I like the tattoo, but hate the placing. It's really the only one I dislike. Instead of getting it removed/covered, I wish I could just peel the skin off and stitch it elsewhere on my body.
That's pretty much my issue with the small one I have my left arm, the script tattoo. I like it, but I wish I had done it a little bigger (eventually it's just going to look like three black lines on my arm) and that I had placed it somewhere else.

Hell yea! My FI also has an achor on his forearm with the name of the ship his grandfather was on in WWII. I didn't think of him rolling sleeves but now I really want that lol

  • I never pictured myself having a tattoo because I couldn't imagine anything I'd want on my body for the rest of my life, or where I would even put it (I like the idea of it only being visible when I want it to be).

Last year, randomly, I was reading some blog and the woman had just gotten a tattoo on her collarbone, and it was a quote from an ee cummings poem. Something about it resonated so deeply with me that I knew I had to have it. My sister called me the next day and told me that she had been online the day before, too, and found a French quote she loved and said she was going to get it tattooed on her collarbone. We both laughed and agreed to go together, and it was such a good experience.

So now I have this tattooed on my left side, and I love it so much (it is tattooed straight -- I'm just twisted a bit in the photo). It perfectly embodies who I am and how I live my life:

  • @ckel24 I'll have to have FI take a picture of it. It is a huge tree and all the characters from Alice in Wonderland are in it. Above the tree it says "begin at the beginning" and below the tree it says "and go on until you come to the end". It took forever but it is so amazing. I love it. @kaos16 it is just odd for me because it isn't something I ever thought I would want but I was looking at some designs last night and I'm really loving the pin ups.

Very cool.  I was just wondering because two of my tattoos are pin-ups. . . . styled after Vargas girls, one is lady justice and one is a farmer.  They are some of my favorites!

  • FI is making fun of me. He kind of got me addicted to tattoos and he is teasing that I'm getting ready to catch up with him. Lol. I already have 7 and there are a few more ideas I have in my head.
  • I have been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo for a couple years now.  DH says he doesn't like them and finds them unattractive, but he would support me if I got one.  For almost a year now, I have really wanted a Tardis tattoo, but I keep stopping myself because I know that I love the show now, and probably will for a while, but I might not forever.

Back in college, I desperately wanted a tattoo of my sorority letters, Phi Sigma Sigma, and I was 100% sure that I would be loyal to my sorority forever.  I didn't get one because I couldn't afford it.  Then, my senior year, a bunch of bitches took over the sorority and made it absolute hell, and I absolutely hated it.  So now I'm pretty dang glad I didn't get it.

I guess that's why I'm holding off on getting one - I'm afraid that I won't like it/want it a few years down the line and then I'm stuck with it unless I go through painful laser removal surgery.

Or you could get a cover-up like on Tattoo Nightmares.
