David's Bridal ordering timeline

My BM's ordered their dresses this weekend from David's Bridal. My wedding is May 17 so I knew we were cutting it close, but the saleswoman told us that the dresses wouldn't come in until May 10 because the color I chose isn't one that they keep in stock (it was wine). I kind of believe her because they didn't have a single dress in the whole store in that color, but at the same time I know their dresses can come in super fast. Has anyone had them tell you that your dresses weren't in stock, but you got them sooner?

Ours were supposed to take about 2 months. One arrived in a week and the other about 5 weeks.

Did they tell you they don't carry your dresses in stock though? That's the part that scares me. I know their dresses usually come in faster, but it's because they have them sitting somewhere. I'm wondering if it's the same for dresses they don't keep in stock or if she just wanted to make sure we ordered them from her that day.

My sister ordered her wedding dress from them and they told her it could take 4 months but it was in in like 2 weeks or so.

Yeah the same thing happened with my wedding dress too I'm just being paranoid because the date is so close to the wedding. I just needed some reassurance from other brides. When I tried to tell my girls while we were there that they would probably come in early another associate overheard me and said "I wouldn't count on it in that color because they never have it in stock".

That is a bit scary, esp if they need any alterations.  I hope they come in faster!

Yep. Both of our dresses were not "in Stock" dresses.

Ours were "sangria" which is also a non stocked color according to sales people. And we had two different dresses, but same color. It just depends on the dress.

I work at DB. Almost everything comes in early. I'd say 98%, even things that are made to order, meaning there is not a supply in the warehouse already. We have to give you that date though, because every now and then it does take that long. They build in some time just in case of a worst-case scenario. I know it frustrates people that they rushed to order and then their item comes in plenty of time, but it's definitely better than giving an early date and some mishap happening at the warehouse and not getting the item.

Out of curiosity, what color? If it is a made to order color AND a new color, then it might take that long.

@thelastdreamer - the color is wine. They didn't even have any dresses in the store in that color for us to try so I believed her that it wasn't an in stock color. She did say the latest would be May 10, but the way they kept saying it wouldn't come in sooner than that freaked me out.

If she repeatedly told you that, she probably (or at least she should have) done a warehouse search - that can give you an estimate of how available the item is. If she did this, she probably found that it wasn't going to soon be available. This is all guesswork based on what I would have done if I was her. But I still think they'll probably come in at least a little early. I ordered a bridal gown in a petite size in bright white (an unusual combination) maybe five months ago and the expected date wasn't until late March. The bride was really nervous because her wedding was the second week of April. I checked everything I could and it looked like it would take the full amount of time. It DID take a long time - but it still got in last week, in plenty of time to do her alterations. So if I was you, I wouldn't fret. WORST case scenario, if it doesn't come in until that day, find a seamstress who is ready and willing to do fast alterations and arrange to take them to her as soon as they come in.

We ordered Feb 1stish for a June 7th wedding, and were told we should think about "rush ordering" since we were cutting it close. We were given a May delivery guarantee with regular order--fine.  The dresses were all in 2-3 weeks later.
