*kicks the wall*

They effing low-balled us on the offer.  I'm about 80% sure we're going to turn it down.

I don't know what this means going forward.  I'm half hoping they counter with something better, but the other half of me wants DH to throw all his effort into looking here and walk away from them.

I've never felt good about this situation.  I've tried, but I just feel like they are trying to pressure us into something that would be bad in the end.

Re: *kicks the wall*

  • Is this an offer from his current employer? Is your relocation going to be covered?

(maybe something in TX will open up...)
  • Dammit!

Well, this might be a great opportunity to play a little job offer Chicken. Minimal effort, while y'all go after the next thing

Sometimes the best offers come to those who are most willing to walk away...either scenario looks like you are already walking...

  • Yes, from his current employer.  He's got an e-mail in to HR to find out the relocation package, but the salary offer is ridic, IMO (and his too).

We had a feeling this was going to happen, but it's no less a irritaing when it's reality.  Plus now we still don't know what the fuck we are doing.
  • Ugh.  I'm sorry.  Has he had the other meeting yet?  I'm wondering it regional director saw this coming?

His regional director weirdly knew a lot about us (that we have kids, I have a job, that our families are based here) and told him to do what's right for our family and our life.  (I'm sure the regional director has talked to DH's boss, plant manager, and regional manager, but it's interesting that he wanted to know so much about DH)

So, IDK if there's something else in the pike or not.  The regional director is the regional manager's boss.  And Tom had a meeting with his former boss yesterday, who's now a transportation manager about another position.  One that would keep us here.  The regional director also tossed DH's name around in regard to that position.  The only naysayer is his regional manager.

There's some weird politics going on that I'm not fully understanding.

    Grrrrrrr.

Is there a chance these are the hoops they need to jump through?  I know DH had to start at a certain offer then they could move up the chain

  • DH's former boss told him that if the offer wasn't good enough, to reject it and see if they come back.  His current boss told him not to move unless it was $x...and it's not $x by a long shot.

We talked only briefly about his conversation with the regional director, so I didn't get a clear picture on what he's intoning with regard to 'doing what's right for us'...Because let's be honest, all companies are a little Office Space-y about "Is this right for the company?"  SO there's a concern that if he turns it down, will they think that DH isn't right for the company?

And this other thing that's hanging out there...DH could do the job, but there's going to be a decent learning curve to it.  His former boss seems to think he could get DH trained on what he needs to do fairly quickly and is interested in DH.  It's the regional manager that's holding up the process.  So IDK if DH's former (maybe future?) boss needs to circumvent him and go to the regional director, since he seems to think DH could do it or what?

I hate the politics of the coporate world.  If you don't know the special secret handshake and that no means yes, you could be stepping on a landmine.  Fuck.
  • I think your H needs to let his regional director that he would be interested in doing other (local) job - he had discussed with former boss, and thought it would be a good fit.

I kinda did something similar when I moved into my current role. I let the retiring director and her replacement (my current boss) know that i was very interested in this role, should an opening occur - and followed up with them when one did. Only afterwards did i go to my boss and let her know that I was interested in applying for role, and asked for her to support the move. (My real concern was 2nd level manager vetoing it, but i was hoping with enough support from first level leader and new director, he wouldn't hold me back. IF he had, I was ready to start looking outside of the company.)

I know firsthand how much it sucks to feel like one of your leaders is holding you back - corporate politics are awful.  Best of luck to him.
  • I think what's really stuck in my craw here is that they came to him.  It's not like he pursued this at all.  We were told from the outset of this position that it would be 18-24 months before they'd want us to move and he was told by his regional manager at the end of last year that he wanted him to stay here through the summer.

So for them to rush this whole process (and put a ton of stress on us in meanwhile) and then make a BS offer is quite frustrating.  I want to shake someone and ask them why they're making this so fucking hard.
